All I can say is if this is what Tommy Shaw and JY think Styx is then god bless them. Lawerence Gowan is a terrible singer no matter who he's copying. Good Luck is all I can say.
Nice to see them coping Dennis by doing the radio station circut
Once again they can't come up with anything original.

This is a ripoff of the boom child video with all the stuff flying around and different cuts and shit.

Was it produced by the same guy who did DDY's "Boomchild" video?

Oh.. and I do not like Larry's voice. Too nasaly.

Yeah, maybe they'll make a step up and go on tour with Air Supply.

You guys sound so jealous. Why in the world would they copy Boomchild? I doubt anybody in the band even saw that video.

So what? I just won't buy it. Just like I didn't buy "10 On Broadway"...Did you complain about Dennis being the copycat back then? Bet you didn't...but that is EXACTLY what he was.

Jealous gimmie a break Monker Styx is no better than a cover band

Of course you are jealous. If you people weren't so jealous that Styx is making new music you would be talking about Dennis and how he is getting airplay, new videos, and his new album being released. But, since Dennis can't catch a break, all you do is complain about Styx...just like Perry fans and how they relate to Journey.

The problem is that the complaints and whining of a half dozen Dennis fans add up to next to nothing when radio decides to play the song, VH1 decides to play the video, and people pay to download both.

Money makes the world go 'round, not inane whining.

Enjoy

I will. Maybe when Dennis does something worthy of the publics enjoyment you will have something 'nice' to post on Styx forums.

Well I don't know about the "you people" being so jealous. I think several here just don't care that much for Gowan's singing. Believe me, I'm not jealous. If people find this video or this rendition of the song entertaining, more power to them. I find it distracting to watch and not so great on the ears. But that's me.

As for both Dennis and Styx doing covers, well since it appears both were asked to do them, I suppose they should. Styx probably feels this is the best way to go to keep them active at this point.

And since Dennis is also on a division of Universal, it would stand to reason that he's getting some exposure and coverage. Not a bad thing.

You don't like his material, that's cool. I don't like Styx' material these days. So we cancel each other out.

I wonder how TS and JY feel about the recognition they are getting with this song in private. Must be kind of frustrating to have your original material not get noticed, and to have the most coverage be a cover tune (and no, there is nothing wrong with that), and not sung by either one of them, but rather "the keyboard player".

Enjoy!

so? I don't care much for Glen's singing but I don't feel a need to constantly ridicule his every move.

Believe me, I'm not jealous.

Then don't group yourself in with the froy's of the forum. Doesn't bother me. But, their comments seem totaly motivated by jealousy to me.

I don't think so. They should do what THEY want to do, not what the LABEL TELLS them to do. What is accomplished if the label directs their every move? If that is what Styx is doing, I'd rather have them drop their label and release albums on their own, and record the music THEY want to.

And since Dennis is also on a division of Universal, it would stand to reason that he's getting some exposure and coverage. Not a bad thing.

Prove it. What exposure is the label helping Dennis get? It seems to me that what little 'exposure and coverage' he does get comes from his own efforts, not the label's.

You don't like his material, that's cool. I don't like Styx' material these days. So we cancel each other out.

No we don't. You can't cancel anything out. There are other people downloading, listening to, watching, Styx then are on these internet forums. Nothing you can do can cancel them out.

I wonder how TS and JY feel about the recognition they are getting with this song in private.

why should you suspect it to be any different then what has been said publicly? It seems to me they see it the same as the other recognition they have gotten over the past 5+yrs...an opportunity to capitalize on by releasing an album and touring.

Monker,

Feel free to argue every point. Doesn't change anything. You're the one putting labels on people. You're the one lumping people into categories, not I.

I wish you well. You are just not worth the trouble of engaging further.

Dennis did a cd of standards just the every voice has done
Dennis did not do the CD to impress Styx fans he did it because he wanted to do it . Big difference Styx has tapped out and to keep the touring game going there copying music
You won't buy it and either will anyone else .

Not an issue he probably did not even release anything.

Funny how this band copies a Beatles song and Monker say's were jealous. Shows just how bad this band has become.
Big downgrade for STYX .

Well,I am not a big Beatles fan and do not know what album IATW is from and possible film it must have been in.I get the feel that the Styx videoversion could be along the same line but a more tecnically updated obviously ,compared.I did not mind the video. At least they did not just stand on a stage lipsynching,or toss a football around while wearing a lumberjack shirt.
I wonder if Dennis is ever coming to Toronto.Guess not.Oh well, maybe I'll just catch Styx again. They have been very nice in coming here and fulfilling my Styx fix over the last 5 or so years.Thanx lads.

Just saw it the other day on VH1C! It is played fairly often. The only solo video from a Styx member that is, BTW.

Maybe Neo-Styx will get this honor with the IATW video.

If this happens, I will give them their props and say "good show"! Not my cup of tea but good for the fans of this song and the video.

(Mind you, this video will be paired with a Classic Styx video, so everyone will get a little dose of Dennis before they get to see and hear Gowan and his band)

LOL! Too funny. So, Dennis does an entire CD of cover songs, and that's fine. But, Styx does ONE cover and you go wacko.

Dennis did not do the CD to impress Styx fans he did it because he wanted to do it . Big difference

Yeah, the difference is you are making up facts. Styx did it because they were asked to do it. Dennis did it because he was more interested in broadway show tunes then being in the band called Styx.

Styx has tapped out and to keep the touring game going there copying music.
You won't buy it and either will anyone else .

Oh, sure, some people will buy Styx doing an album of covers. About as many as those who bought "10 On Broadway". So what? I don't have to like it, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't do it.

New music what new music?

"I Am the Walrus" is new Styx music. The new album coming out is new Styx music. Those are facts whether you accept them or not.

you would be talking about Dennis and how he is getting airplay,

Airplay for what a live CD

Airplay for ANYTHING. "I Am the Walrus" is a live recording and that didn't stop it from getting on the radio. What is Dennis' excuse? His songs have some allergic reaction to radio waves?

Even Phil Collins does not get airplay anymore

Wow, I didn't realize that Styx is more popular then Phil Collins. Amazing. Maybe this is the start of their Santana moment.

Not a half dozen Dennis fans rather then thousands of former Styx fans who see there band being destroyed .

There are probably less then ten total people who post to this forum. Get over yourself already. As for the "thousands", well, your petition showed how wrong that number is.

Ah I see its all about the money

For a label? ABSOLUTELY. Do you think Sactuary or Universal sign Styx because they think they will lose money? You are a bit foolish.

Sure its fine it was a solo effort If Shaw did a cover big deal;
It's the once great band Styx that has downgraded itself by doing a Beatle cover. One last ditch effort I guess
If Dennis was in Styx and they did a Beatle cover I would go just as wacko If you have nothing original as a band to say then don't say anything .

Styx was asked to do I Am The Walrus.

If you did a little bit of research or reading, you would find Monker's statement is a fact. The information has been out there for at least 2 months.

You are such a hypocrit. But, it's good to see that you admit that solo Dennis DeYoung will never, ever, be as good as Styx.

If Dennis was in Styx and they did a Beatle cover I would go just as wacko If you have nothing original as a band to say then don't say anything .

No you wouldn't. As has been pointed out, Styx DID do covers in the past, even recording "Not Dead Yet" on EotC. But, again, you make up excuses. If Dennis is involved, it's OK...If he's not then Chicken Little has to whine that the sky is falling.

Oh they were asked to do it
Gimmie a break

Yes, they were...But, don't let the facts get in the way of you inventing any story you choose.

A band called Styx did not egsist when he did the Broadway cd
Shaw was pulling his pants down on the cd cover for Damm Yankees at that time Mooning his fans ,

I don't know what 'egsist' means. Is that some kinda cancer you get from eating eggs?

As for DY, I thought he was mooning Dennis. Well, maybe not.

"I Am the Walrus" is new Styx music.

This say's it all

Yes, it does. It shows that you can't accept reality. Your error light is on constant flash mode. Perhaps you need to move up to ludicrous mode. But, remember, it does mean changing the light bulb. Maybe it IS true that reality is frequently inaccurate.
