Can anyone tell me if there is a place on the web that I can find a listing of all of Toto's U.S. singles? If not, is there anyone who can shed some light on what the singles actually were from the following albums..

Hydra: I know "99", but what else? I believe "St. George & The Dragon"??

"Turn Back": I've seen somewhere that "Goodbye Ellenore" & the title track were issued, but since there were no chart hits, can anyone confirm?

"Isolation": I'm aware of the top 40 "Stranger In Town" & "Hollyanna", but did they try any releases with Fergie on the lead? I'm guessing maybe "Angel Don't Cry" or possibly "Endless"?

"The Seventh One": "Pamela" was a top 40 hit, & "Anna" made the adult/contemporary charts, but did they try a third?

Any info would be appreciated, thanks..

I'm about 75% certain that "All Us Boys" was released as a single - but the other 25% says it was the bside to my next best guess - the title track.

"Goodbye Elenore" and "live For Today" were definitely single releases - not sure about the title track, but I doubt they'd have pulled a third single after the first two tanked.

100% certain that "How Does It Feel" was the third "Isolation" single, if there was a 4th it was "Endless" (which SHOULD have been the first single damn it!)

To the best of my knowledge there wasn't a 3rd US single from the Seventh One - certianly, despite being as big as "Africa" and "Rosanna" in Europe and Japan "Stop Loving You" wasn't released domestically. Just another example of Sony madness when it came to marketing Toto.

Hope my vagarities help a bit!

Thanks, I appreciate all the info. Brett, I think you are probably right with your guesses. I actually have a book called "The Great Rock Discography" by M.C. Strong. It is supposed to contain complete single listings, but I have found some mistakes; simply because I know some songs charted that aren't even listed as singles; "Anna", for instance. The book lists "Stop Loving You", but not "Anna". For "Isolation", the book does say:

"Stranger In Town"
"Holyanna"
"How Does It Feel"
"Endless"
..That seems about right, especially considering how close it is to your guesses.

Then, for "Hydra", it claims:

"St. George"
"99"
"All Us Boys"

For "Turn Back":

"Goodbye Elenore"
"Turn Back"

Personally, I don't think "Turn Back" would have made a good single, I'm more inclined to believe it was "Live For Today", since it did chart on one of the rock charts.. Personally, I think "Gift With A Golden Gun" would have been a good choice.

I used to maintain a database of everything Toto released. No longer online, but I can add some info. Even though most of these did not make it on the charts they were still released as singles:

[Toto]
You are the flower

[Hydra]
All us boys
St George and the dragon

[Turn back]
Live for today
If it's the last night

[IV]
Make believe

[Isolation]
How does it feel

[Fahrenheit]
Don't stop me now
Lea

[Seventh One]
Mushanga
Stay away
Straight for the heart

[Past to present]
Love has the power

[Kingdom of desire]
Don't chain my heart
Two hearts
Only You
The other side
Never enough

[Absolutely Live]
Africa (live)
With a little help from my friends

[Tambu]
I will remember
Just can't get to you
If you belong to me
The other end of time
The turning point
Drag him to the roof

[XX]
Goin' home

[Mindfields]
Cruel
Mad about you

Musicfan, thanks for your information, but out of the ones that you mentioned, which ones were U.S. singles? I'm guessing that "Kingdom Of Desire" didn't have all of those singles in the U.S.; along with "Tambu".

Cato, that's a fairly extensive list of singles that failed to chart, but do you know which ones out of those were actually released in the U.S.? I know some of them were, but I can't imagine that "Kingdom Of Desire" or "Tambu" had that many singles here.

Update

Postby BlackWall » Thu Feb 21, 2008 7:04 pm

Just thought I'd update the US singles list yet again.. After some extensive online research, I have come to the conclusion that "St. George and the Dragon" was not an official single from "Hydra"(here in the states). I believe now that "St. George" was only issued as a limited edition shaped picture disc. I also believe the song "Hydra" was issued in this same format.

I also have concluded that "If It's The Last Night" was the second single from "Turn Back", not the title track.
I believe "Live For Today" was a promo single, but not official; it was relased on a 5" red vinyl single that also included "Gift With A Golden Gun", "Goodbye Elenore", and "If It's The Last Night"

After the release of "The Seventh One" singles, I don't believe Columbia released anymore official singles for Toto here in the US; from this point on(1990), it all went promotional only. Can anyone provide info to the contrary?

Anyway, here is my revised list of Toto's official US singles.

TOTO
1.Hold The Line
2.I'll Supply The Love
3.Georgy Porgy

HYDRA
4.99
5.All Us Boys(failed to chart)

TURN BACK
6.Goodbye Elenore(failed to chart)
7.If It's The Last Night(FTC)

TOTO IV
8.Rosanna

10.Africa
11.I Won't Hold You Back
12.Waiting For Your Love

ISOLATION
13.Stranger In Town
14.Holyanna
15.How Does It Feel?(FTC)

FAHRENHEIT
16.I'll Be Over You
17.Without Your Love
18.Till The End(FTC)

SEVENTH ONE
19.Pamela
20.Straight For The Heart(FTC)
21.Anna(FTC)

PAST TO PRESENT

KINGDOM OF DESIRE
Don't Chain My Heart (promo)
