Man I'm on a posting frenzy today.... please forgive me for being such a blabber mouth.

I've been listening to Paradise Theater repeatedly today..... One thing that surprised me and I'd forgotten: Snowblind was written by JY and DDY.... Tommy didn't have any writing credit on it even though he sang it as a duet.

This means that the current Styx still plays a fair n umber of tunes penned by Dennis: Come Sail Away, Lady, Loreli, Snowblind.

There are quite a few examples of DDY writing songs sung by others in the band:

Mademoiselle - Tommy Shaw
Lords of the Ring - James Young
Snowblind - JY/TS

But I can't find one song written by JY or TS that was sung by Dennis. Am I missing something?

And just to think that i bet you never said that JY uh sang prior to the split........His performances on Lord Of The Rings and Half Penny Two Penny in my opinion were very good and I still think that after DDY,s departure.

If you listen to DDY sing Come Sail Away on GI he sounds like Donald Duck on Prozac........he sounded awful

I think JY did really well on Eddie (which is a great song in general IMO) and even "These Are The Times" he does really well.

Can we please cease some of the bullshit thats going on? I'm trying to have a real conversation without geting uber political and shit. It would be nice if we could refrain from the injections for a change

I apologize. That was uncalled for. I actually like a number of JY songs that I feel his style of singing is very appropriate for.
I have never been a fan of his voice at all and felt the early albums showcased a voice that should not have been showcased. A lot of that was Dennis' own lack of confidence in his own voice.

That said, JY was perfect for some of the songs he performed and I cannot imagine anyone else singing them, to be honest. (Double Life, Homewrecker, Half Penny, Two Penny and Young Man are four I really like)

Sometime I kid around here and get myself into trouble.

As to DDY on CSA. Even HE makes fun of how he sang that song on GI. As he matured, that song sounded much better when he sang it.

And I am going to refrain for any commentary as to how it is sung at Current Styx concerts now.

The only song I could find that Dennis sang lead/co-lead on that he didn't write was 22 years, written by John Curulewski. The other lead on it was JY.

During the Wooden Nickel era, it appears there were more songs written/co-written by Dennis, but performed by others in the band. For better or worde they were....I'm Gonna Make You Feel It, You Need Love, Jonas Psalter, and The Serpent is Rising.

As for Snowblind, I believe Tommy helped with the song. JY and Dennis mentioned in the In The Studio interview about the making of the album.

For what it's worth, in the spirit of accuracy Sadie - if I get your point right - I think you should consider "It Takes Love" and "Not Dead Yet" - songs NOT written by, but sung by DeYoung.

Dennis talked about both "Borrowed Time" and "Lights" in an interview long ago. ( I will try to find it for verification. I think it may have been the Songwriter magazine interview).

He wrote the lyrics to "Borrowed Time" and Tommy wrote the music. He wrote the music for "Lights" and Tommy wrote the lyrics.

I think both are great songs.
