Styx in Milwaukee Feb 14th 2005

Dennis DeYoung brought his version of Styx to Milwaukee on Monday night in an intiment setting
in front of 500 friends and family,

The entire setlist except for Desert Moon was Styx material,
For the first time ever Dennis brought out the gem Pieces of Eight.

I have waited 28 years to hear this song and with the orchestra it was performed perfectly.

Its a shame Tom and Jim could not perform on this one there loss.

Once again the show stopper for me was Castle Walls .
Dennis explained that this song was inspired by the movie the Exorsist
which now makes total sense its a shame Tom and Jim were nowhere to be found they missed out on playing on this one but Dawn Marie is much better looking than Tom anyway and she sings better also.


Right before Madame Blue was performed which Jim and Tom missed out on Dennis explained about the Lost Treasures show in Chicago in March he said that there will be 5 gems that he has never sung live brought into the setlist
Its a shame Jim and Tom won't be able to be part of this as they have there medley to do.

After the show we had a chance to meet Dennis and he signed my setlist which is now in my office.

Also I had the pleasure to meet Suite Madame Blue and Kansas 666 at the show
It was nice to put a face behind there names.

There is a time limit when you do a casino show. The casinos limit anyone to 90 minute sets because they want people to gamble. It's this way regardless fo who the act is.

She was 2 feet in front of me she looked wonderfull and sounded great ,

I have met him many times Once at A WHO Concert once back stage in Vegas Grant Park Cedar Rapids ect Always cool to stand in front of him.

At most casinos, they keep the shows at 90 minutes to draw the crowds in and then keep the fans after to gamble. Just like Sadie and Froy said.

The Green Bay show should be around 2 1/2 hours, Amick will be at this show so Dennis' Hunchback music will be included.

The show was AWESOME, like every Dennis show that I've been at

I was fortunate to be there early and catch the sound check. It was such a treat to hear the band practice "Pieces of Eight". What a GREAT addition to the show. I LOVED IT, LOVED IT, LOVED IT!!!!! I really like the addition in the middle of the song, I don't know the name of the piece, it might be from The Nutcracker, the Russian dance or something. They were speeding up the music and it really worked great within the song. It was also great to see/hear Dennis play the keyboards during this song too. "Castle Walls" and "Suite Madame Blue" were also AWESOME!!

Yes, Froy was only a couple feet from Dawn Marie throughout the whole show.

This show was meant for just 500 people, they wanted to make it very intimate show and it was. The show sold out with the Pre-sale tickets before they ever went on sale for the general public. The $110 seats were the first to sell out. That's pretty good.

A couple years ago, Styx performed at the local casino here...They performed their full set, outside, for a few thousand people...and the track seats inside It was definitely NOT a situation where the casino was just using the band to draw people to gamble, wanting them to quickly perform and get it over with.

Correct only Pieces of 8 was added and because of the venue's 90 min time limit songs were dropped

it was just a greatest hits show
The one in March will be much different.

It wasn't a private show Monker. The tickets sold out on a presale. With 500 to sell, that's not bad for anyone.

Second...casino shows are NORMALLY only 90 minutes, unless the casino has arranged something different with the act involved. No one here said Styx was only brought in to get people to gamble. It is the philosophy of the casino that ties the act to 90 minutes so they will stay to gamble.

The show was slightly different because of fitting an orchestra and the band on the stage and giving the folks that went a much closer view than at a regular show of his. Not a monumental distinction to be sure, but that was the difference.

Now, let everyone play where they want, enjoy the music and share the fun with everyone here

The piece of music in the middle of Pieces of Eight is "In the Hall of the Mountain King" from the Peer Gynt Suite by Grieg.

Sometimes I have heard this piece of music referred to as the Troll Dance or such --- hmmm....wonder if he dedicated it to Jim and Tom? KIDDING!!! I KID!!

Sounds like a very enjoyable show.

Doesn't matter the venue in my book. Was the show good is the benchmark.

I honestly believe Dennis and the Current Styx both put on great, professional, enjoyable shows. Period. They have all been doing this a long time.

Actually it was more than a FEW people on this forum, there were a few "peeps" (people that don't post) on here that were there last night.

Well to me, it was very special, I had my Mom with me, a few close friends and a few friends that never seen his show before. And I got to meet a few people from the boards. Again, he added "Pieces of Eight", that was very special too.
