Styx and VH1

Postby classicstyxfan » Tue Feb 22, 2005 10:10 am

Does anyone here know anything about a concert Styx did specifically for
VH1 ?

It would have been in the 1996-1998 period of time. I cought about the last 10 seconds of a video during 70's hour of Come Sail Away....Tommy, Chuck and JY were playing while sitting on bar stools, and Dennis was sitting at a piano, and it sounded like an arrangement similar to the one Dennis is palying on tour now, but without Orchestra. Sort of an "unplugged" format.

If there is an entire show done this way, I'd sure like to get my hands on a copy of it .

any info is appreciated.

It's my understanding that there was an intention to do a concert in the Unplugged fashion. There are three tracks that show up on VH-1 from time to time. I have them on a tape somewhere. I don't know why it didn't come to pass.

Sadie (who will see if she can find the names fo the tracks...though I know others on here have the info readily available)

A few reunited groups did a series of programs that I think were called Device, Voice and Drum (may be wrong about that title) for VH1. They performed mostly uplugged on a very spare set . I have seen clips from the ones that Kansas, Foreigner, and Styx did, all in the mid-90's.

I think there were some, uh, "issues" with the Styx segment. Apparently the only surviving song segments were Lady, Come Sail Away and Babe. These are now shown quite often on VH1Classic along with some of the segments from Kansas and Foreigner from the same series.

Anyone else have more complete information? I am not sure about whether this ever aired on VH1 or not. And, if it did, were there other songs besides those three.

OK Edit: I am wrong about that title -- Device Voice Drum. I don't know what these programs were called. Sorry.

Here is some info from someone in the know about what I posted above:

Device Voice Drum is the name of Kansas' recent live DVD (from which the live clips that air on VH1C come).

The Styx and Foreigner performances were not part of any "series". They were recorded back around 1996 and aired during VH1's "7 Days of 70's" marathon that year. As far as I know, the performances that air on VH1C are the only ones that have ever aired (and as far as I know the only ones that exist).

Hope this helps.

This guy knows a lot about VH1 shows and videos, so I trust what he says. Sorry about my clumsy misinformation above.
