BEST WOODEN NICKEL CDS

Postby Abitaman » Tue Mar 01, 2005 11:54 am

Well I know Unfinished Song is on a lot of people's list, but anything else from those first four cds?

Styx 1 is pretty bad, not much on it I like to listen to other than Quick ia the Beat of My Heart and Best Thing.

Styx 2-Lady and I'm Gonna Make You Feel It are awesome. Father OSA is good

The Serpent is Rising is pretty hard to listen to also, but has Young Man and Witch Wolf, both of witch should be added to the sset lists today. Was Serpent suppose to be a concept cd? If it is it's pretty weak. And Pexiglass toliet, worse Styx song ever!!!!!!!!!!!!

Man of Miracles is my favorite cd from the first four, title track awesome, all of them except for, Unfinished Song (joking), Having A Ball, and Man Like Me, are great songs.

Never really like John C. much, but his part, like Larry's, his a part of Styx, that can't be denied.

So any thoughts?-ERIC

Styx II is my fav from the era.....

A Day is 70's prog rock at it's best. Many of John C's songs show a sense of humor and fun that I really enjoyed........even Plexiglass Toilet !
It's placement right after "As bad as this" is Interesting, the songs couldnt be more opposite in style / feel.

Mother Nature's Matinee was an AWESOME introduction to the magnificent
voice of DDY.

I know there are some who disagree, but I love the sheer energy of Jonas Psalter....and it's one of JY's best vocal efforts ever.

Styx II was the most together of all of those four albums. Each one had one or two (or more) really great songs on it, but that one was the most consistent, to me, with both the sound and the quality of songs.

That said, the more I listen to "Movement for the Common Man," the more I love it.

And I still contend one of the best songs ever by JY is "Young Man."

While I think Styx II showed the beginning of their potential, I prefer Man of Miracles. I like Evil Eyes, Golden Lark, and Christopher, Mr. Christopher.

Now for sheer silliness though, gotta love Plexiglass Toilet.

I really liked the Styx Wooden Nickel songs:What has Come Between Us, Best Thing, Lady, You Need Love, A Day, You Better Ask, Golden Lark, Evil Eyes, A Song For Suzanne, Young Man, Unfinished Song and the Nirvana sounding Serpent Is Rising.

I thought the rest of that catalog pretty much sucked. Still, I could listen to the above 11 all day long!!!

I like first Styx since you get a humble feel of the beginning of it all.
There are soome good trax on there, though the sound quality is pretty poor on my cd.
Styx 2 is OK.It's got the best track of Wooden Nickel years, with A Day.
Serpent is great though Krakatoa and Plexi spoils it.Irritating trax.
Man of miracles is the most complete and solid effort of the bunch ,showing the future Styx the best.
Have made my own best of wooden nickel years on 1 cd.Classic.

There are actually some really good tracks on the Wooden Nickel efforts. I think that RCA did a pretty good job putting together the "Hits" package for the four albums. 'Rock and Roll' feeling and '22 Years' are seriously under rated. I Like '22 Years' because with the exception of 'Put Me On', there are very few opportunities to hear Dennis and JY share vocals.

Just my $0.02

I don't make predictions.I never have and I never will.

Isn't stating that you never will make a prediction in essence a prediction of sorts? :D :D :D
