1. FROY: Name any other band that was together for 30 years that kicked out there founder

ADAM: Pink Floyd dropped BOTH their founders, one at a time

2. FROY: Dennis dropped the case anyway

ADAM: Wrong. He settled. Do you have any idea how expensive SUEING SOMEONE is? Hiring an Attorney? And this required a special type of Attorney - much more costly than the guy who does house closings.

And so why would DeYoung settle? Answer: because it was a losing game. If he thought he'd win he'd have stayed in the game.

3. SADIE: This is sad

ADAM: It's sad only because of ONE overbearing, intolerant, petulant, adamant, disrespectful, child-like poster who refuses to move one day forward from 1981 or whatever year it was when he/she/it reached puberty.

Okay, now none of us knows why the suit was settled by Dennis. I agree, it's daunting and stressful, and definitely expensive.

As for Adam's comments about Froy's comments...well I contend it's equally sad to give audience to someone you know is only baiting you. I understand it getting under your skin, however, by giving audience you are only perpetuating the problem. IMHO.

Me, I'm just content to let each side perform and entertain us.

Thanks Zan.

And I cannot deny that Sadie once again has a very sensible point. But don't you WANT to hear what I got to say...?

As for if the ever-balanced Sadie is addressing Dennis & Styx or Froy & myself - the way I see it there's really not much difference. I am attempting to defend the validity, rights & choices of the current Styx employing common sense and intelligence (admitted a futile exercise) and Froy is representing the Dennis DeYoung self important, pompous, self righteous school teacher position (albeit from the most inarticulate, uneducated, petulantly childish ways).

Meanwhile, what fun would this board be if it weren't for the stupid, never-ending and un-win-able battle between the opinions of we progressives vs. the narrow, hopeless, emotionally and artistically paralyzed?

Well Adam, one can never accuse you of how you view DeYoung. Such a shame that you do, but hey, that's life. I guess we'll agree to disagree.

Froy, I'm glad you have heard this cd, and can tell how bad it really is. That you fro the heads up! Since we can not find it in the stores, can you please send us all a copy so we too can hear for ourselves how bad it really is :D

Anyway, I am not thrilled by my favorite group issuing a cover cd, but I know enough, not to judge it before I have heard it (or before it's even hit the stores)-ERIC

But don't forget that they have an original CD to be released near the end of this year as well! Fear not! There's plenty of music to go around! :-D

FROY: Show me one article or any proof that shows they had problems with Dennis for years .
Go ahead

ADAM: Why? And if I did how would that change your mind?

Okay, for starters, quick show of hands, how many readers of this post actually think that Dennis WAS NOT a handful for the rest of Styx throughout his time in the band? Is there ONE PERSON who believes DeYoung was/is an easy going guy to work with?

You don’t have to look very far without tripping over indications that Dennis is a handful to be in a band with.

As much as I hate to submit to your requests, Froy, as much as I know it’s a pointless exercise, here is what the guy who “discovered” the band had to say:

"Dennis was always the leader, he was very dominating and demanding…"

This just doesn’t sound like this guy is talking about the simple misunderstood victim you’d have us believe DeYoung is. He is an artist – but a pain in the ass too. Obviously a big enough one to want to distance themselves from.

But I suppose you will now deny that I have shown you one article. Or you will change the topic. Or you will begin with some cute little misspelling game or something.

Carry on Froy. This is like Point/Counterpoint. It's Froy's turn to say "Adam, you ignorant slut"...

Just how I like 'em! ;-)

I think Froy's concerned about the band's financial well-being, Adam. It bothers him that "Styx" is playing more, but smaller venues, and not selling as many records, hence causing them to settle for making only a fraction of what DDY is taking in. Ya know, just like when he was in the band. :-D

I wasn't there, but I do know that there were a couple other members of the band Styx that were hard to get along with over the years from day 1 of signing the first record contract (for various reasons, at different times). Adam, I wouldn't put all the blame just on Dennis as you tend to in most of your posts. Any of the members could have left at anytime, they sure had the contracts for the business Styx changed enough. Oh, that's right, Tommy did leave, but he came back.

As for the finances of any members of Styx, is that really our business? LOL

They each live a different life style from one another so the way they need to earn the money and spend the money is up to them. A few may own more than one house, a few may live on the West coast in which the cost of living is higher, a few may buy studio equipment that is expensive, a few (past & present) have kids to raise, etc. And don't forget the types of cars they drive. You go from a Mercedes Benz to a Dodge Neon.

There are various reasons why they continue to tour the "never-ending tour". I feel that with a couple of the band members, NOT all, that they do it for the love of music and touring.

Adam, did you ever meet any of the band members, past or present? Believe me, if you sat down for at least 20 minutes with any of them - one on one, you'd see a whole different side of these people.

I have never found the egsact numbers to be my business at all. I don't want to know how much they make anymore than I want to know about hw often they go to the bathroom. However, if we're going to paint any of them as a victim without knowing all the facts, including how much was being distributed to what channels and for what reasons, well then that's just ignorant. I realize you are not doing this (although sometimes your terminal fairness doesn't do the situation justice, IMO), but some like to use it a tool to guage who was more right or wrong.

True. My experiences meeting everyone in Styx, sans one person, have been extremely pleasant. Very easy-going, down to earth guys. And I haven't met Ricky yet, but I understand he's really nice as well. Maybe I'll find out one day.

HUH? Terminal Fairness? I know I'm not the brightest bulb on the boards, but please explain LOL

Zan, I'm sure you'll be meeting Ricky soon. I've heard so many good things about him, he does seem like a very nice guy.

We should just have a separate "thread" for Point/Counterpoint - that would be a looooooooooong thread!!! Go For It Adam & Froy.

Terminal fairness, I guess, would be akin to being nice to a fault. LOL

I'd love to meet Ricky one day. I've heard the same nice things from lots of people.

Funny thing,

Doors of the 21st Century
Creedence Clearwater Revisited
Starship

These bands all LOST lawsuits to former members.

Hmmmm

Oh, but I forgot. This is old news that nobody on this list cares about. So we are not supposed to talk about it anymore.

Well, let's see...the rest of STYX abandoned him - including Chuck. Their engineer Gary Loizzo abandoned him.

The only people he has left are his family who run lights, do promotion and sing and dance on stage
