If by "me" you mean, Neal, Jonathan, Ross, and their desire to bring the music back to hundreds upon thousands of adoring fans. Then yes, you'd be absolutely right.

Besides, it's NOT always about Neal. It never has been always about Neal.
How can you make such a risibly baseless claim?
Go study up on your Journey history.
Neal did not put the band on hold for 12 years.
Neal did not demand that they fire Ross and Smitty.
Neal did not decide to forgo Herbie's brilliantly marketable successional title plan (Infinty, Evolution, Departure, Escape, Frontiers, Arrival, Freedom) and get rid of the scarab logo.
Neal didn't demand Elmo the robot be used as the cover for Frontiers.

It won't stop! If Perry was to come back, many would be happy, but then there would be those who feel Augeri got the same treatment DeYoung got in Styx. As the Journey song says " It goes on and on and on......"-ERIC

realistically would a 56 year old man come out of retirement to tour with a band....

i don't think so.

in fact it's flattering i'm sure; but knowing the kind of man he is would he suddenly feel his voice is good enough to hold up night after night, would his health allow.... he is not 28 years old any more. he knows it; what does it take to make people live in the real world and not exist in this nether existence where time stood still.

this argument is like limp lettuce....

Sure. Why not?
Witness Dennis Deyoung.

In fact, some don't ever feel the need to retire.
Take a look Mick Jagger, for instance, 107 years old and still going strong.

maci,

He couldn't inform his business associates of a decision? I had to tell my boss whether I was going to have surgery or not, how long I'd be out, etc...It really is no different - they deserved a decision. Had he said - YES - I need surgery and I'll be ready to go on XX date - I feel they would have waited....

yes, yes, yes, we KNOW there had to be something that none of us will ever be privy to. That's how this destructive cycle keeps going.

:!: PERRY HAS BEEN LEGALLY DETACHED FROM JOURNEY SINCE 1998 :!: , but hey you never know...maybe there was a clause after the supposed clause that never was, that keeps him silent for the next 20 years. Or just maybe, he DOESN'T want to sing anymore. And maybe he just likes seeing people like you twist in the wind.

What a boring life we lead...when our only cause in life is to disrupt every good Journey board out there. Andrew was right a while back when he said there are tons of great bands that would LOVE to have fans like you. Why not give your undying love to one of them?

perryfaithful, yes of course there is always more to the story, that we will never know about but just what is said from the group. hey also yak. as soon as i find another group i'll let you know. how about Guns 'n' Roses's November rain. I trade off between Steve P. and Axl Rose.

Excuse me Yak, but I was speaking to Eric and you blast me with ....what? Are you telling me I have no right to post on this board and to go away? Has Andrew flown the coop and left you in charge?

You seem driven to badger me on my every post no matter what it is about with the same Mantra. This isn't contributing anything meaningful to the discussions here, it is plain old HARASSMENT of another member. Perhaps you should ignore my posts and speak with those whom you agree with ONLY!

Fans do not know all the facts on the issue of what Perry told the band OR did not tell the band concerning his health problems. That was not a public discussion with the fans, so we fans don't have all the facts about that issue.

Regardless, I still believe the band should have waited for Perry!

Perryfaithful,

You could very well be right there is more to the story - good or bad either way - but from what we do know asking for a decision does sound reasonable - they are long-time mates and they are getting up there in age.....

ProPerry,

Regarding thinking they should have waited regardless - that just doesn't seem fair to everyone who depends on Journey for employment. Waiting for Mr. P could very well mean waiting forever.....

Bottom line is, that I think even the most ardent Perry fan has to admit they are surprised and dissapointed that in 2005 there is still nothing musically from Mr. P.

And as a Journey fan, I must say I am surprised and dissapointed in the lack of new music to come from them

Fair is Fair

Being that everyone who would know about it (Neal, Jon, Ross), has signed gag orders (as per Perry's wishes) I'd say you are 100% correct.

Apparently plenty.

In order for Journey to continue, Neal and the guys had to reach an agreement with Steve Perry so he would sign away to let the guys go play without him.
The niceties of this agreement and the extent of the stipulations contained within are not fully known. All that is known, is that the current members had to sign gag orders barring them from talking about certain Perry-related subjects. Both Neal, Jon, and Ross have mentioned the gag order on separate occasions. Herbie Herbert (Journey creator and ex-long time manager) claims that besides the gag orders, the guys really "gave away the farm" when they signed that contract.

Here are some quotes where they mention the gag order:
The first one is Jon stopping himself mid-interview while on the topic of Perry and his decision to fire Ross and Smith...

Jon: That really, you know to this day, just stunk up the joint. I tell you what. And then, you know, not that he...(stops himself) we can't go there, but...

Here's another one.
Here, Schon reaffirms that Perry made him and the boys sign gag orders.

Schon: "We made a decent record," explains Schon, who now lives in San Rafael. "But then nothing happened from there. And I sort of felt that that's what it was gonna be."

Q: Meaning you never really expected a tour?

Schon:"Yeah." (pause) "And I can't really get into why. I've got like ... you know, everybody signed papers years ago with [Perry]. Like, gag orders."

Q:Gag orders meaning -- meaning that you can't talk about ...?

Schon:"About each other ... yeah," Schon says, laughing. "Silly shit, I know."

There is also plenty of info. to be found in the controversial & infamous Herbie Herbert interview. He reveals many shocking tid-bits not only about Perry, but about Ross and Jon, as well.
However, it's entirely up to you whether or not you choose to accept what he says as gospel truth. Many claim Herbie is just bitter about being fired by Perry. I disagree though, Herbie is a straight shooter on all topics. He doesn't just rag on Perry.
He claims Augeri is "callenged in the talent department" and also recently stated in a SFWeekly interview that the current lineup has about as much chance at success with their new album as someone does with their dick growing a foot. Either way, it's worth a look. http://members.cox.net/mrcarty/

maci wrote:and besides i'm kinda surprised they would sign such a thing. Especially Neal.

I'm not. These guys wanted to get out on the road and play after 12 years. If that required giving in to and satiating some exorbitant demands of Perrys', then so be it. As long as they were free to get out and play.

Hi Maci.
Sadly, I don't have the dvd you are talking about. However, I do have concert videos from the ROR era (one being "I'll be Alright Without You" and the other "Be Good to Yourself"). In both videos it is definately Jonathan Cain on keyboards. You may not agree with me on this, but I think Jonathan looks better today than he did in his youth. He has taken up lifting weights and is now jacked to the max. Some people just take awhile to grow into their own skin, and I think Jon Cain might be one of them. The man looks great these days.
Anyways, as far as I know, the man on keyboards during ROR was Jonathan Cain. At no time was he ever replaced. I wish I could be of more help. Maybe someone who has the dvd can more fully answer your question. Hope that helps.

I hated Perry's perm when I first got ROR. Especially the pictures on the album sleeve. But now I look back at it and think it looked really good. After all, it was 1986, big hair was the thing to do!

Yak or NC,(whatever your name is). You would like the fans here to THINK you have some kind of inside knowledge about this gag order, and about Perry's health situation, but really your just a "poor misguided fan" that just spouts off anything with NO proof to back it up!

I believe Perry!!!
