Dennis' Shows

Postby styxfanNH » Sun Mar 13, 2005 9:51 am

On the ride home from foxwoods, my som and I talked about the show last night. He's a smart kid and really can critique and compare music in a meaningful way.

Part of the conversation was about the various shows is doing.

DDY with the Orchestra.
DDY with his 5 piece band
DDY - Lost Treasures.

That made me think. With the vast catalogue of Dennis', is there any chance that he might tackle other formats?

DDY: the Solo years. Dennis could highlight his solo material scattered with Styx songs. There are just a bunch of Dennis' solo work that i would love to here that is often lost in the song shuffle.

or

How about if he does a Face to Face Tour With Billy Joel, like Billy did with Elton.

I Wish Dennis would showcase more of his solo material, however, most of the public isn't familiar with it. They are familiar with Styx, so if he tried to showcase his solo work as the main draw, it would sadly fail economically. But I do like the idea.

And I think the fact that he is doing several shows with other acts is a sign that he is willing to expand. Will it ever be something like Billy Joel and Elton John, doubtful, but hey it's a nice thought.

My thoughts on this are that Dennis would probably love, at some point, to do other types of shows and work in his solo material.

Right now, he is acutely aware that he is drawing a segment of his audience because of the Styx factor, and many come to hear those songs, sung by the original singer.

If he should find some success with his touring financially and with ticket sales, I would think he would change up his future shows and perhaps put in a few from the solo years.

I really think "Don't Wait for Heroes" has a good chance for inclusion down the road here. (From MY wish list, at least!)

He now has two types of shows as a drawing card and I would imagine he will stick with those for awhile.

Don't forget that he has a CD of new material coming out at some point, so I would expect a song or two from that added to his shows, too.

He truly does have a wealth of great songs to choose from.

Right, if is cd did good enough, it would be reason to draw upon his solo work, so lets hope that it does. I to would like to see more solo work of his, since it's great. Heck, I would just like for Dennis to come to my area and sing commericals, if that's all he wanted to sing, but at least I would get to see him without Styx-ERIC

Here's what I would travel / pay to see....

A show with his 5 piece band, but with a significant portion of the show
being either Just Dennis and his Piano, or "unplugged"........

Man, would that be awesome !

I think Denny should go on tour doing his Le Petomane improvisations.

I am sure Froy would be in the front row.
