Songs in Commercials

What do you all think of "yesterday's" music being used in today's commercials? I keep hearing Aerosmith's "Dream On" on the tv throughout the day. I personally like hearing the music from "my time" on tv. Also the Eric Clapton song is played all day too.

I don't know whether to feel good or not, now that it seems I recognize nearly 90% of commercial music! :D

Seems they are slotting in more and more classic rock into commercials these days. I am certain many songwriters, music publishing companies, record companies, what have you, have discovered the power a song can have to create sales when people hear them in ads.

Mr. Roboto certainly boosted the sales of the Styx Greatest Hits WAY up higher than it may ever have gotten otherwise. Plus it created a high profile for the band. Not a bad thing.

IF you are hearing a song in a commercial, it is because it is targeting a certain demographic.

Assuming that you are always connected t0 the musical songs and groups of your teens, then the advertisers are trying to connect with that group. If you are hearing a late 70's/early 80's song then they are targeting late 30/early forty somethings. The fact that you recognize it just shows that you are probably of that age group.
