Dennis sang lead Hank did JY's part it was stunningOn Queen of Spades, did Dennis or another Keyboard Player try to fill in the 2nd guitar part......( during the guitar solo ) did it work/sound good ?
Nope it was missing everyone knows it and agree;s a second guitar is needed..Did Suite make her presence known during unfinuished song ?![]()
Just Curious
Suite loved Unfinished song
It was moving Chuck Lafrano was up in a box and he was near tears singing it word for word. I loved it alsoPS I wish Chicago Styx friend would have given me the tickets he supposedly threw away......sounds like it was a great show! (see the This board thread )
sadie65 wrote:I'll try not to bore you too much. His concert last night was very well received. Best Thing was great. Queen of Spades and Borrowed Time were wonderful additions to the set list. Unfinished Song was very poignant in that Chuck Lofrano was there and got to hear the song he wrote performed live. There were some standards of course, but as I looked around from my roughly 4th row from stage, all you could see throughout the entire show was a crowd very much into it. The crowd sang every song. Dennis did more keyboard work than I've seen in a very long time. If you get the chance to see this show, I think you would enjoy it.
It was nice to see several that post here at the concert.
Peace

If anyone was wondering, Froy and I were the loud ones pounding the stage. We were helping Kyle out with the rythym section, but darned if Dennis didn't nearly step our our hands few times. He sure was here, there and everywhere all over the stage.
Sadie and Froy summed it up quite well. This was an all out, old school concert of Styx music by the guy who sang and wrote it.
I thought his band did an admirable job of backing him up, but the audience sang every single word of every single song, so he had hundreds additional of backup singers as well.
Standouts to me were Best Thing, which just blew everyone totally away. It was so great to hear Queen of Spades and Borrowed Time.
I so enjoyed seeing Dennis running around like a twenty-year-old and particularly seeing him really play the keys as an integral part of the songs, just like the old days.
It goes without saying his voice was terrific and he was very energized by his hometown crowd (even if everyone there was NOT from his hometown).
It was a great, shared concert experience for me.
I certainly hope he does this one in more cities so that more people can experience this concert.
As a side observation -- that is one skinny white boy, I must say. If he loses much more weight, he is going to disappear. And I wouldn't mind if he would permanently ditch the jacket he wore onstage. But that is just me.
Bugsy
I say's screw Styx let Dennis do this show all over the country this will piss off Jim and Tom so much they will have no choice but to talk to Dennis nobody will care about Almost Styx anymore if Dennis keeps this up BET ON IT <
Perhaps you realize that Dennis needs Styx a lot more then Styx needs Dennis.
It's nice that Dennis performs such songs for his fans, but I doubt a significant number of people are going to react the same way as you, and I doubt it will change the big picture of how things are.
For Dennis to make this work, he is going to have to take this set on a national tour and keep selling tickets.
I don't think he has really established himself as someone who can consistantly sell.
.IMO, Styx has already done this
Dennis is the one playing catch up to Styx...
Styx is not trying to catch up to Dennis...they have their own niche carved out and seem content.

You are such a contradiction. You start the above with 'screw Styx' and end it hoping they'll ask Dennis back. Perhaps you realize that Dennis needs Styx a lot more then Styx needs Dennis.

Perhaps you should realize that Dennis needs only his fans and thats it.
And I doubt anyone cares what you say
All Styx has done is leech with REO
On there own the name gets them ticket sales
Dennis uses the STYX name he sells huge
Catch up to what ?
Cover tunes
Styx has downgraded year after year
They never will catch up to Dennis they don't have the vision and the music to get them there. Thats why they are now doing cover tunes there out of ideas
I hope Dennis does take this on national tour. Then I might get to see his hot, sweaty self. Talk about motivation..."Sweating with the Oldie"
Perhaps you should realize that Dennis needs only his fans and thats it.
His music is Styx music more then any other member
The other 2 guys are now happy doing other peoples material
Dennis is doing hardcore Styx music thats the way I like it,
Perhaps you should realize that Dennis needs only his fans and thats it
I don't think you believe that. The way you go from "Screw Styx" to "Styx will ask Dennis back if..." proves that to me.
You want him back in Styx because Dennis solo is STILL not good enough for you..
And I doubt anyone cares what you say
Obviously you care, or you wouldn't reply to it.

The above is simply not true. Styx/REO only do what most classic rock bands do, team up
Dennis does not sell 'huge'. Unless by 'huge' you mean 1500 tickets and half filled venues...which is what I witnessed.
Consistantly selling tickets, touring and releasing albums
Establishing themselves as a touring band who releases new albums once in a while
And, Dennis goes from a solo show filled with Hunchback and orchestra music to a "Styx" concert with 20+yr old obscure Styx songs without the orchestra. He totaly switched gears]
If he decides to seriously go this route, he has to start all over proving to venues that he can sell tickets
When a venue books Styx, they know what they are getting...and they can consistantly get venues - whether you like the band or not
If it is only a small number of fans who get to see this show, then so be it. Missing out on this one is their loss. Seeing it was our gain.
Perhaps you should realize that Dennis needs only his fans and thats it.

I agree with Froy on this one. Dennis is doing hard core Styx music and I totally like it too!!!!!!!
Here is my prediction: Tommy Shaw will be joining Dennis DeYoung on stage before June 2006!!!!!!
There using the name of a band that Dennis Deyoung started and made famous without Dennis Deyoung there back to the beef and bowl in Alabama.

Dennis is the main ingredient that made Styx famous. I've noticed during the last 5/6 years of advertising for the Styx shows in my area, they're still using Dennis' songs and even sometimes Dennis' voice in the promos.

I know he's playing the frog jumping contest but that's all I've heard. Maybe if his bass player is playing a backyard party or working overtime at Walmart I could fill in with the band.

I did not say STYX will ask Dennis back and I careless If they do
Dennis SOLO?
Saturday night was a STYX concert my Friend not Dennis solo.
I have the right to defend my post from imature clueless outsiders such as yourself.
You mean what most washed up visionless acts do .
Is U2 shackin up with anyone?
How about Elton?
You just keep yappin .
Dennis does not even try there is never advertisement for the shows
He plays to fans who want him
That simple he's not out making a living off of his shows like Almost Styx is .
Shut up Monker your now past the line of full of crap
Once in a while thats funny .

Its obvious you do not know what you are talking about .
What venues the Crystal Palace in the Wisconsin Dells WOW there huge
Fact is Monker put Tom Shaw, Jim Young with special guest Larry Gowan on the sign and see if anyone shows up. I would bet they would not even sell 100 tickets
