Yogi, I'm not sure if you realize it or not(or really care), but Glen did have one chart hit with Styx, "Love Is The Ritual" did make a really minor dent in the Hot 100, I think it was like #83, or somewhere around there..

"Love At First Sight" made the Top 40, but I know it doesn't count if he didn't do lead vocal, since he's had a hand in writing, but not singing, a few bigger hits.

I dug his stuff on "Cyclorama", but I just can't really get into his stuff on "EOTC".. "LITR" is alright, but it still seems kind of empty to me..
To me, his tracks on "EOTC" seem like an attempt to put Styx in the hair metal direction(Poison, Warrant)..

As for his stuff on "Cyclorama", I'm actually tempted to say that I enjoy his two contributions as much, if not more, than "most" of the stuff Tommy did for it.

Sorry, but IMO, charting songs do not make a CD better. I'd rather listen to a Kevin Chalfant CD then either of these, and I'm sure his solo stuff has never charted. I'm sure others here would rather listen to a Glen solo CD and I doubt he's charted solo either. I doubt any songs from Shaws 7 Deadly Zens charted, but the quality on that album is far above these two.

Also, IMO, the entire Edge CD is mediocre pop crap (very much like ROR is for Journey) with the exceptions of the title song, LitR, and Show Me the Way.

Finally, the color they chose for the CD itself DOES make it like rotting crap...but, that's another discussion.

Glens wrong on a couple of points. He dismisses himself on the importance he had in Styx. That is wrong.

Not entirely. He did not make the impact he obviously thinks he should have, in retrospect. That is GLEN's opinion...I don't see why it should be discounted or diminished.

I think he DID make an impact from the BNW tour thru Cyclorama and the other tours. He certainly redeemed himself and changed a lot of people's thoughts about him. It's a bit different entering the band as your own person rather then so-and-so's replacement. IMO, a slave from New Brunswick is not a good fit for Styx...But, the Glen who showed up for Cyclorama IS...and yes, he is missed by a lot of people....and I have to believe he knows that.

The above Dennis tunes are cut from the same cloth as Please, Boys Will Be Boys, and Music & High Time. Compare Tommy's to his classic's This Is Not A Test & Cold War.

Now lets not be hasty..... Fallen Angel was not really that bad and I thought Great Expectations was brilliant from a Lyrical perspective. That said, "I Will Be Your Witness" is FUCKING brilliant... just an amazing, amazing song. In my wet dreams someday Dennis will have the chance to produce that song... I think with Dennis behind the controls of that one it's a classic. That may be one of the best lyrics Shaw has done for any Styx record ever.....

I even enjoy Number One (because I can connect with it in a very personal way) even though I don't really consider it to have the "Styx" sound.

And I will grant you that Hip Hopcracy just plain sucks. It's nice the first time you listen to it, then you think it sucks. But it's certainly no worse than "best new face". I did, however, like "Just Fell In" in a "too much time on my hands" kinda way.

You know, I haven't listened to BNW in about a year. Now I gotta. Funny how albums drop out of your play list then fall back in.

From my memory, or at least what is left of it, BNW showed the struggles the band was having. Those struggles came through loud and clear in the final product.

There are some good songs, some bad songs and some ok songs.

Just fell in really didn't belong, hip hop was awful and roseland is the classic that never was. (Dennis at his best on that album)

Fallen Angel wasn't that bad. And actually was what I kinda expected in the styx/dennis ballad song.

Everything is Cool
Brave New World
Heavy Water
While There's Still Time
What Have They Done to You
I Will Be Your Witness
Goodbye Roseland
Brave New World Reprise

Buy the album, make your own 'thin' version and it becomes a worthwhile buy.

That's actually a great idea...I did the same thing for Cyclorama

Doing Things My Way
Waiting For Our Time
Kiss Your Ass Goodbye
These Are The Times
Together
Captain America
Killing The Thing That You Love
One With Everything (A great closer)

To me, his tracks on "EOTC" seem like an attempt to put Styx in the hair metal direction(Poison, Warrant)..

I had this same exact thought the other day while listening to Love Is The Ritual. I don't think I noticed at the time, but now that the hair metal sound is not pre-dominant, it's much easier to pick up on.
