Just heard 7 clips from Big Bang

Postby froy » Fri Apr 08, 2005 7:51 am

At first listen all I can say is why ?

Why did this band do a cover cd the music does nothing for me seeing that its copied material.

JY's song is terrible at first listen,

Gowan please who told you you could sing ?
The guy is yelling .

Blue Collar Man remake
I want to yell Im A Cowboy after certain parts
Its a Bon Jovi rippoff.
Why fix something that was not broke ?
The Harmonies during the Long Nights part sound terrible
You can hear JY way to high in the mix C Rating

Summer In The City
Tommy Sings this one
I was never a fan of this song in the first place ,
Is it bad no
Does it do anything for me no
Another C rating

It Don't Make Since You can't Have Peace
Im sorry the worst JY effort ever
The same old JY singing and the song does nothing for me D rating

I can See For Miles
This will be the single that they try to release
The Harmonies are good
The song is great there version is good
B rating

Can't find My Way Home
Tommy Sings again and it sounds just like the original ,
Good song
They just do it the same way C rating

One way Out
Tommy again and it stinks not a great cover at all
D rating

I Don't Need No Doctor
Gowan yells through out
Play this song and ask 50 people who the band is playing it and nobody say's STYX not 1 person
Gowan can't sing period D rating

The bottom line so far is the STYX sound is only heard on I Can See For Miles the rest sound like Tommy Solo or JY solo
This is not a STYX record
Period.

When I get more I will review,

Dear Andrew,

Can you put a spell check and grammar check on this board?

See, that's why I can't give a review, I don't even know who's singing what - DUH on me!!

LOL, I can't spell either, but you all have to admit it's kind of funny with some of the spelling mistakes, right? It makes me giggle.

Suite,

The spelling mistakes happen, but Froy's spelling and grammar mistakes can go down in history as some of the funniest stuff on here.

Seeing he is now calling me his friend opposed to an azz, I wanted to show my appreciation and try to help him out.

Well on the positive side, Froy didn't give every song an F.

You guys are so cute - LOL

I wish that most of us on the board could get together for one of the concerts. You "guys" would have a blast!! I know us "girls" do!!

I just looked up what the "sticky" means:

What are Sticky topics?
Sticky topics appear below any announcements in viewforum and only on the first page. They are often quite important so you should read them where possible. As with announcements the board administrator determines what permissions are required to post sticky topics in each forum.

Wow, this topic is quite important!!

Since only Froy and Andrew could edit this topic and make it sticky, I guess that means one of them should explain WHY it is so important and WHY it is sticky....or UNSTICK it.

Andrew should remove that option.

I agree, I hope the "sticky" is removed. I don't like "sticky" topics. That's why I don't like going to the Journey board.

I don't like "sticky" things either.

Over on the Journey board, there were several sticky messages. Everyone keep asking Andrew to remove the sticky and he did. But they had several, and they always will be on top of new messages. Andrew should remove that choice altogether.-ERIC

It sounds like Froy was giving his honest opinion on what he has heard so far. I’m rather encouraged by what he had to say about some of the songs. Coming from Froy it’s not bad. I’m not expecting to like every song on the CD myself. Froy where did you hear these clips? Are they online somewhere?

Thanks.

I accept Froys review. But.......... Do any of you think I Am The Walrus sounds like Styx?????? I sure as hell dont. I did think though that it was a very good cover of a song I really didnt like in the first place. I am NOT a Beattles fan.

My point is Gowan is in NO WAY SHAPE or FORM Dennis Deyoung. NO one can sing like Dennis. Gowan doesnt try to,and I'm happy as hell he doesnt. Journey trying to rip off Steve Perry doest float my boat. Styx does not try to do this with Gowan. So what if his remakes, or his new Styx songs dont sound like Styx I dont want them to. Tommy & JY can carry the tourch on the lead singing Styx sound. The harmonies will sound Styx like to me. Gowan can be Gowan and Dennis can be Dennis!!!!

I know you cannot judge a whole song by its clip. That said I have listened to what Froy listened to (and before long, everyone will get a listen from one format or another, or the CD itself).

My opinion of many of the songs was they were quite good. Well played. Well sung.

When I listened, though, I simply thought it was "a band." Nothing Styx about it. Nothing special. Just like with Walrus, you get a rendition of the song with nothing great or nothing terrible about it.

I would rather hear Spoonful sing Summer in the City, but Current Styx does it just fine. I prefer Blind Faith, but the Current guys do a nice job of Can't Find My Way Back Home. The Who IS I Can See for Miles, but this band handles the harmonies nicely and the song sounds good.

Gowan, to me, was more in his element with his I Don't Need No Dennis...uh Doctor. His voice, or lack of it, does nothing for me, but at least he is not trying to Lollipop Guild his way through a DDY song.

I thought JY sounded better than I expected him to, so my expectations were low to begin with.

I think Current Styx fans will really like this one a WHOLE lot. What I heard is not bad. To me buying it would be like going out and buying any generic band's good covers CD, though. And I simply have no interest in spending my money on this one.

My little (incomplete) review.

Who do you think is singing lead on "Can't Find My Way Home"?

I say it's Larry, Froy said it was Tommy.
