Can't Find My Way Home

Postby SuiteMadameBlue » Sat Apr 09, 2005 1:51 am

Thank you for the information Darren on the cover of "Can't Find My Way Home". I have to see if we have that cd, I bet that's the version that I'm thinking of. That's the best version, to me :)

How many versions are there of "Can't Find My Way Home"? Does anyone know?

I think I'm obsessed with this song today. I was listening to it a few times, oh my

It's a good song.

But here's the question, what's it about?

I have my theories (mostly along the lines of Mr. Tambourine Man), but would like to hear others.

Anybody know?

Darn Sadie, you're good!!! Is there anything you can't find? (like my way home? giggle, giggle)

Yep, then I love the version by House Of Lords, just like Darren mentioned.

Zan, did you hear this song yet? Great song!!

Not that version...Tho, I did make a valiant effort. I just spent the last 40 minutes trying to download the damn thing. This is one case, I'll have to take your word for it. ;-)

House Of Lords also did a great cover of the Stan Bush song "Love Don,t Lie" anyone ever hear that?
I actually have the video to "Cant Find My Way Home" by House Of Lords. If you go on Ebay look for the CD entitled "Sahara" which is the CD that features the song, I bet you can pick up the CD for a reasonable price and is well worth the purchase....theres a great ballad on there called "Remember My Name" and the title song "Sahara" has one of those choruses that once its in your head it stays there....I remember when I got the CD and played it a couple of times, I was singing that darn chorus for weeks walking round Wal-Mart.

Yep, I'm obsessed. I wonder what I'll be obsessed with next (LOL)

Darren thank you for your help. I just purchased the cd on Ebay with the "Buy It Now". My husband and I thought for sure that we had this song on cd, but I couldn't find it. I still could swear that it was done by the band Badlands, but it wasn't on any of our Badland's cds. This cd came out about the same time as the cd that I was thinking about.

I was checking the internet to see if the singer for House of Lords was the same singer as Badlands, they're not. I just found out that the lead singer for Badlands (Ray Gillen) passed away in 1993, he was only 32 years old, how sad.

Hippie says:

But here's the question, what's it about?

** Lyrics are down below** for those who would like to know.

Good question Hippie. Every time I think the lyrics of a song mean something, I find out I'm way off base :?

I guess he's saying it's the woman's fault (like usual). She was something he liked at one time and she's changing into something else. He want's the woman that he fell in love with, not the one that she's becoming.

What do you think?
Am I way off again?

"Can't Find My Way Home" - Blind Faith

Come down off your throne
And leave your body alone
Somebody must change

You are the reason
I've been waiting so long
Somebody holds the key

But I'm near the end
And I just ain't got the time
And I'm wasted
And I can't find my way home

Come down on your own
And leave your body alone
Somebody must change

You are the reason
I've been waiting all these years
Somebody holds the key

But I'm near the end
And I just ain't got the time
And I'm wasted
And I can't find my way home

But I can't find my way home
But I can't find my way home
But I can't find my way home
But I can't find my way home
Still I can't find my way home
And I ain't done nothing wrong
But I can't find my way home

I am about 90% certain this song is about drug use.

See, I'm usually not close at all - LOL

If a song is dirty or about drugs it just goes over my head.

A little context. The song was written by Steve Winwood. Blind Faith was a "Supergroup" at the time, Eric Clapton also being one of the members. Clapton was a noted heroin addict back in the day. Not sure of the other band members, but I would imagine, you know, the 60's and all, they dabbled, and, likely, they were "wasted" a few times.

The singer for House Of Lords is James Christian.....he released a great solo CD called Rude Awakening a few years back and to me that CD is better than any he done with HOL.......oh by the way Lisa and I had a great time at the 3 Asia/Dare gigs......we met both bands and got drunk with them after the final show in Cardiff. I have interviewed Darren Wharton (Dare singer/keyboard player) for Fireworks magazine. He has gone to LA now to write 2 or 3 songs for an upcoming Disney movie.....u see even Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck notice the guys a talent.....

I was obsessed with the song "Lights" yesterday, now I'm back to "Can't Find My Way Home".

After everyone listen's to Carrot Styx version of "Can't Find My Way Home", PLEASE try listening to the House of Lords version. I just opened up my cd from Ebay, GREAT song. They really made it their own (as Paula from AI would say-LOL) This version is a real rock version, LOVE IT.

Thanks Darren, this cd is pretty good, I'm listening to a couple more songs :)

You are correct. That first Badlands CD is very good. "Dreams In The Dark"... great tune.

Andrew's review of "Can't Find My Way Home"

Can't Find My Way Home sees Tommy at the mike again, with a faithful rendition of the Blind Faith classic. As a stripped back acoustic track, the song has a feel good vibe and Tommy's voice sounds brilliant. Force of habit has me waiting for the crashing hard rock finish (ie. the House Of Lords version), but I'll get over that.

I love the House of Lords version!! For some reason it doesn't sound like Tommy on the BBT version, maybe it's how the studio recorded his voice, a little different. For those that buy this cd, please let me know what you think - okie dokie?
