I beg to differ. Tommy was the one who quit in '83. That's what really killed their momentum. Dennis could have replaced him then and kept on going but didn't because he thought Tommy was too important.

Of course, I'm sure you pseudo-guys will find a way to spin that negative too though.

Nice to see that we're all still carrying on the great debate over here. As I catch up on all the posts, I'm struck by the fact that we collectively cannot let go of our own positions, or our need to "prove" we are right.

Who left when, why, how? Who's the better lineup? Who's more of a team player? And on and on and on.

Guess, I'm just of the opinion these days that we're all gonna like who we like. I think the beauty of this band was it's diversity. If you wanted to rock out, you could, if you wanted mellow, it was there, if you were looking for tight playing and terrific riffs, it was there. And now we argue if it's still there. We've used recipes and baseball teams. We could add tv shows and their changing casts as arguments for or against.

The band as it is now, pleases several here. Dennis as he is now, pleases several here. Conversely, both also displease several here. May sound over simplified, but we aren't going to change anybody's beliefs here. And that in my humble opinion, is because we value different things from this band. Isn't that a wonderful quality for a band to have. The ability to draw fans who have different tastes.

For all who are going to see Styx or Dennis. Enjoy. I've said it before, they aren't going to be around as long as we like, so let's enjoy them while we can.

Peace
Sadie

Sad isn't it. I don't even want to think about that.

Fine, I'll give it a rest for a while. It's Friday, I have 3 soap opera's to watch and clean my house.

NEWSFLASH
Chuck is retired from the band called Styx. He makes occasional appearances and plays one or two songs. When he makes his occasional appearances he's paid per song that he plays. It is the decision up to only Shaw and Young on how many songs he's "allowed" to play. Shaw and Young have ownership of the name Styx. They are the one's who make the decisions. Sucherman, Gowan and now Phillips are paid musicians and are paid for each show, not a salary for a tour.

8) I'm sure if this is totally accurate, this was passed on to me from a Carrot Styx "source". 8)

Hi Suite! I would love to know "the Source" because this quote has loads of inaccuracies. Do you really think Chuck would give up his right to the name Styx? He didn't! Chuck is "allowed" to play as many songs as he wants. For reasons well known, he "chooses" to only play 3.

Funny, the couple of times I've talked to Chuck and someone that is fairly close to him, he has said that he is free to play at any show he wants to or is able. The reason he doesn't do full out tours is due to all the things he needs to do to keep himself healthy and the physical demands of touring interfere with that.

He has also said that he plays at the end of the show because it is grouped together and it doesn't break up the continuity of the show.

Not sure about the finances here, I personally would never ask him or those associated with him about that.

Well, he does go to half to two thirds of the shows, not just a handful. But seeing you don't go to htem, how would you know. And he is still active with the band with the restrictions that being HIV positive has placed on him.

NH - who are you talking to here? I have gone to 3 shows in 3 years and 2 years past. I have never seen Chuck (except in 78).

lol...Suddenly, I feel a little obsessed. ;-)

In the 32+ shows I've been to from this "tour," I'd say Chuck has been at 13 or 14 of them, but I'd have to go through my brain catalog and do the math to know for sure.

Just because he doesn't go to the shows you go to, doesn't mean he doesn't go. He tends to go on certain legs of the tour, so he goes to a bunch and he misses a bunch.

I saw four shows last year, he was at all four. Portland, Lowell, NYC and Philly. I also know he was at the shows surrounding the dates I went to.

There are quite a few female fans that are in our groups at Dennis' concerts. There are some that are at both Dennis' and Carrot Styx shows. :D

Yes, I meant that it appears Carrot Styx has a very high percentage of female fans.

I think it's because JY is so sexy.

I was gonna go with because guys dig sappy love songs more than chicks. At least the heterosexual ones. Not that there's anything wrong with that. ;-)

No, just great songwriting. Great melodic sensibilities. And one of the greatest voices in the history of rock.

Plus he knows how to shave. :D

Oh honey - I'm just a BABY in that world. There are people who have seen over 100. It used to be that I'd try to do a "weekend" when I'd travel to see a show. That way, getting more bang for my buck, so to speak. Nowadays, I travel very little, and stick close to home. That limits my show capabilities to about 3 per year. :)

I do like men's Obsession, tho. Yum.
