What if...alternate world.

What if Styx was still classic Styx.Dennis had taken over all writing and production duties since Kilroy.JY and Tommy have had writers block.
Since Kilroy has put out 3 cds.Desert Moon,Boomchild and Back to the real world. These three cds have not been as great sucesses since their heyday with GI ,Po8,Cornerstone and Paradise. They try or should I say Dennis tries another direction and decides they should make a cd called Styx doing Broadway. It is an cd of well known renditions of Broadway show tunes.
??? Would you be looking forward to this cd???

Gr8,

Luckily I am sure I am not going to hell when I die .....but if I were, the scenario you just described would probably be waiting for me when I arrived ! ( They might include a few Polka tunes by Led Zepplin for variety )

( I believe this is also what the Prince of darkness would prepare for Tommy and JY if they end up heading in that direction )

If this had occoured I would have as a fan already lost all respect for JY anf TS for lack of creative contribution and for bowing to the softer sound that DY tends to promote. But this is a good perspective to anaylize. My missing the edger and harder sounds of JY and TS does not mean that I did not appreciate the tempering effect of DY. In fact in the world according to me the 3 key members TS, JY and DDY would still be together but would have reconcilled that the must (much as the New England Patriots) work together as a team. This would be the best scenerio for me.

Sorry I digressed ... I would not have any opinion regarding a Styx "show tune" release as in your scenerio I would have long lost interest and all this would be of no consequence to me -

I'd buy it. I wouldn't feel it's a Styx cd if it was Broadway songs/covers.

Here's another question. Did anyone watch on VH1 or own the DVD, Metallica: Some Kind of Monster.

If there were these therapy sessions & documentary about 6 years ago, do you think the band, Dennis, Shaw, Young, Chuck and even Todd would still be together? Do you think it could work now if there was a documentary with a therapist and the same band members? Could they talk about their feelings? Could they work together again on a new album in the same studio at the same time? When I was watching that on VH1, all these thoughts kept going through my mind.

Just a babbling again :)

Don't forget that when the band reunited in 96, they felt they could put the past behind them. That is until it came time to record and things returned to the way they always had been.

Classic.Thanx for the best laugh I have had in some time.
Osl.I agree.
Suite.I would be very hesitant to purchase Broadway Styx.
Re:some kind of monster.I might see the Styx one,but Metallica i have not seen and probably won't.I see that as some excuse for us to feel sorry for them, while they are also making us pay them, to see that.

Gr8,

thanks for the nightmares !!!

Here's another really scary thought.....what if JC's after departure, Dennis decided the softer side of Styx needed to be brought out, and instead of Tommy Shaw being brought in, he hired BARRY MANILIOW
instead ????

I'm willing to stick with a band at least for a couple of releases that I personally consider subpar. In your scenario, I'd have probably made it as far as Boomchild and then given up.

Too much competition. ;-)

Seriously...I would have become a Styx fan a lot sooner. I was a Manilow fan at age 8, but I didn't find Styx until I was 12! LOL

(and don't even get me started on Bo Duke) ;-)
-Zan :)

believe me, i know my Styx
