I'm sorry for posting this. In fact, I'm sorry for what I will likely be called for posting this.... but I have to say that for the first time I'm getting tired of visiting this bookmark.

Why? Because many times you go to read a thread on this forum what you get is all the same. In the top 10 threads on this forum ( at the time of this writing ) the same thing has happened in each thread. Someone will state an idea or pose a question, and then someone (I won't name names) will bash either the premise of the question or the person asking the question. Then the original topic gets lost and all it becomes is a series of questions and responses about the person who took us back down "that road" again. I mean we have a very good fan of Old and New Styx afraid to post a review of Dennis' show because of fear of being flamed. Is this something we should be proud of?

Now, I could (as some are likely going to post here) just not visit those threads or delete my bookmark altogether and just go away... but I feel like I've made a great many friends here - and I think it sucks to see things go this way - that and the fact that this has happened on threads I've not even had time to read much less reply to. By the time I know whats going on, it's a flame-fest or some other kind of idiocy about things that have happened 7 years ago.

I hate when people have to have the last word. They have to take the subject of this forum and turn it into making it about them.

Let me just say this - if your purpose in being here is to be the center of attention or to make all the topics about you - then you have serious issues that need to be addressed.

I bring all this up here because while this message board is healty in terms of # of posts, it's on life support in terms of the constant bickering that happens here on nearly a daily basis.

If you can't do anything besides say "Larry sucks" or "Dennis Sucks" or "Tom and Jim Suck" or "Carot Styx suck" or "Orchestras suck" or "covers suck" or "broadway sucks" or any of the 23147983247598043 other types of two word responses that get posted here, then you're not really contributing anything to this forum but bitterness and hatred - which I think a lot of people are getting tired of.

So - all of this to ask if we could please just give the bullshit a rest? We all know where the other stands - we're not going to "convince" eachother anymore.... can we move the hell on?

This is very interesting, Ash, because I was just composing something, right before I signed on, to the effect of "Well, I have offically been run off." I was even thinking about deleting the bookmark I have for this message board. And then, there was your post. Voicing my exact opinion.

I mean, what was the point of continuing to visit here and trying to post? As you say, things just disappear quickly into name calling -- on BOTH sides.

But also, as you say, there are some I feel are "friends" here and even friendly "enemies", LOL. There is also news to be had, but that always ends up in a mudslinging contest as well. At least of late, that is the case.

I think I will visit and read, which is what I was planning to do, and see what becomes of the whole mess as of late.

Right now, all of this just makes me tired.

I think what you are seeing is the ebb and flow of the message board. Sometimes the combativeness in people just comes out more than others. Over the 2+ years that I have posted here this sort of thing happens and then dissipates and everyone is all lovey dovey again. That's typically why I become absent for a month or so here and there. But don't think you have to leave permanently, just long enough 'til the desire brings you back.

It's interesting, have a look at the Subject line of the past 20-25 topics.
They are interesing, with a lot of variety of topics. There is also much good discussion that is happening before it gets sabotaged.

I have no doubt I am in a way a contributor to the problem in that many of my posts do not relate directly to the band or Dennis, but are a reaction to something another poster said.....I see humor in many of the things said here, because.....they are funny !

But you are right about the sheer redundancy of some of the comments, and how it brings down the enjoyment level of the site overall.

Maybe if we all start calling the offenders on playing their broken records when they do it , it will stop, or at least slow down ?

We collectively have gone out of our way to rush to judgment at what people actually mean by what they post. And I've yet to see a case where anyone has changed their minds for the long haul.

I would like to say we accept each other as we are, but too often, too many players get caught up in the challenge of proving someone wrong...myself included.

Emotions and personal belief systems are funny that way I suppose.

I know you've only joined about a month or so ago, but you have caught this BB at about the height of its stupidity. I don't think you have really caught the true characters of who we pretend to be. In the year or so I've been here it peaks and valleys and I feel it takes a good 2 1/2 to 3 months to really understand where every body is.

There should be no secret that there are fans that polarize on both sides of the band, but there are also peeps in here that just enjoy the entire catalog and wealth of music that the band creates either as a band or a solo artist.

Not trying to single you out, but I just thnk you came into this board at an intense time.

In another 4 weeks it will slow down after BBT is released and it has been critiqued to death. Then when Styx goes to Europe we may hear from the European Fans.

This board isn't a bad place, the peeps are just really passionate about how they feel. Sometimes we all forget that this isn't a competition to see who can win, because we aren't going to change anyones mind.

I hear you Ash....The constant bashing of one side or the other is getting pretty annoying and I have been in stealth mode lately when the bashing is in its fullest...

These days, I'm Enjoying music from both of the camps even though there is some music from both sides that I don't care for....

Criminal Mind and I Am The Walrus are really good as is Black Wall and Hello God (IMO)....

It's kind of embarrassing when I tell a few of my DDY friends and Carrot Styx friends to come over and check this board out. Some of the posts are just mean to a few members of Styx (past & present) and to each other.
