I liked side two, I HATED side one. The album was not very good. The tour though was EXCELLENT!!!!!!!

I ve said this a bunch of times but Tommy & Cahil lied about what happened at the Texas Jam. The crowd wasnt booing because of the Kilroy film or Styx. The few that were booing & leaving was because of the heat, how long it too Styx to take the stage, beer cutoff & no restrooms, plus with the size of that crowd you know there were some real idiots there.

You could show clips of soccer violence and say it happened because the goalie sucked, but is that really what caused the violence?? The Kilroy tour was AWESOME!!!!!!!!! But the Album receives- a thumbs down from Yogi!!!!!!!

"Heavy Metal Poisoning" might be the best JY song ever.

I think Kilroy was here has to be looked at both in the context of the time when it first came out and then retrospectively.

At the time, it was very new, very different, very ahead of its time. Techno music was just starting to take hold and it was a new direction for Styx. I really liked the album and bought it right when it came out. I thought it had a really cool sound to it.

When it is looked back upon, certainly in the Classic Styx collection, it is not their strongest album. Even though it sold VERY well and "Mr. Roboto" was a big hit.

That said, it is gaining a sort of retro-positive reputation. Many people recognize it is what brought them to Styx. Those who were kids at the time look back fondly on the whole robot-centric aspect.

Even when they have those sarcastic look-backs on the 80's etc. on VH1, Kilory/Roboto is usually mentioned in a positive light.

I am not wild about every song on this album, but I think two of Tommy's and JY's best songs EVER are on it -- "Just Get Through This Night" and "Double Life." And "Haven't We Been Here Before" is as beautiful a vocal performance as anything Styx has ever done before or since.

IML, I like your avatar. (Finally!)

You have another one here who likes KWH very much.

I don't dislike it as much as I once did. To my ears, High Time and Cold War are two of the worst songs written by DDY and TS, respectively. Most of you know where I stand with Mr. Roboto. Just Get Through This Night is not a bad song, but it's never had much allure for me personally. I actually like the music of Heavy Metal Poisoning, but I find the lyrics and JY's vocals repulsive.

Having said all that, I think Double Life is one of JY's best all-around songs and I think Haven't I Been Here Before is the best Styx ballad of all time. It's too bad Dennis and Tommy didn't sing in that fashion more often prior to KWH. I also like Don't Let It End, even though I found it very reminiscent of Babe, in terms of style.

KWH was the first tour I was able to go to and actually was my very first concert.

Although I had the album, I never did feel it was at par with their previous albums at the time. There are some good moments on it and some bad, but few albums are solid from top to bottom. And Styx had at least 4 or so solid top to bottom albums prior to it.

But I think as we look at it from afar, those that have a real problem with it are those that blame "it" as being the defining event that broke up the band even though we now know there were many other issues at the time.

I was intoduced to the band through the Paradise Theater album but KWH was one of the few albums I actually bought on my own (I was 12) and it was always a very cool album to me.

In fact, until around '88 I only was really familiar with PT and KWH... it wasn't until I picked up the CD Styx Classics that my Styx fandom was taken to the next level.

IML,

I was in almost the same boat that you were in circa 1983. I was 12 when Kilroy came out. I joined Columbia record club that summer and got PT and KWH in my intro packet.

I was spending the night at a friends and we were listening to the radio, when 'Babe' came on. After the song ended the DJ said that it was by Styx. I went to the store the next day (not knowing the title of the song if you can believe that) to buy the album that I thought Babe was on. I picked up Grand Illusion by mistake. (One HELL of a mistake as it turned out)

That is how I became a serious fan of the "high singing band from Chicago."

As for Kilroy, I also think it is better than some think, but I would only rank it somewhere in the middle of the catalog. (That only includes studio albums, but does count the Wooden Nickel releases)

I really loved the cd when it first came out. I was 17, and was ready for a new Styx cd. But it has not held up well, when compared to Classic Styx, it is pretty weak effort. If it wasn't a concept cd, I would have ranked it higher. Mr. Roboto was great, as was Don't Let it End, Just Get Thru This Night, and Double Life. Cold War was ok as was Haven't We Been here Before. High Time was weak, and Heavy Metal poisoning was a hugh let down. Started off great, but went down hill, fast. Stayed true to the concept, but JY's singing and the playing did not do the title of the song justice. Liked the concept, but could have been done better, but with the rest of the group, not buying into this concept, I can see why it wasn't as good as it should have been.-ERIC

KWH is a good CD despite that it is a direction change for what the band is known for....Here are my thoughts on each song....

Mr. Roboto- Good song...I didn't mind it musically...

Cold War- Good lyrics but didn't care for it musically...I thought the live version was much better...

Don't Let It End- Good ballad...I like the keyboard and guitar work...

High Time- Good Lyrics and good guitar work, but thats about it...Wished they would have done this one live...

Heavy Metal Poisoning- I thought that this song is very comical...a very catchy tune with catchy lyrics and good guitar work....

Just Get Through This Night- Good Song...

Double Life- Great song by JY...Great Keyboard work....

Haven't We Been Here Before- Good Song by Tommy...Tommy and Dennis harmonies are really good....

Don't Let It End (Reprise)- Just O.K....I like the live version better, mixed it musically with Twist And Shout.....
