Radio promos

Postby SuiteMadameBlue » Fri Apr 29, 2005 11:24 pm

Okay, so I'm listening to 93.3 The Bone on the computer. I wanted to hear JY and what he had to say - LOL

Rant of the morning:

Carrot Styx is having a free show down there in Texas through this radio station. The promo that was played, had a clip of songs and what do I hear, Dennis' voice AGAIN on Grand Illusion, Come Sail Away, etc. What the heck? Why can't the promotion or manager of Carrot Styx put together a new promo featuring Larry's music???? (LOL)

It's been SIX years!!!!!!!!!

While I totally agree it would be nice, I've heard it's not the band's promotion, but individual stations and concert promoters. I really don't know. I think it's pitiful for any act to be promoted using something they no longer use themselves.

It sounds to me like the radio station put together this show, and probably put together the promo that you heard. I doubt Styx had anything to do with creating that promo.

Perry fans complain about Journey doing the same thing...But, Journey DID send out promos with Augeri's voice. The radio stations just choose to use their own and there is nothing the band can really do to stop it.

Yeah - and the radio stations pick the songs. If the station is promoting it and the station is paying for it - then the station will do what it can to get as many people there as possible. Having done radio production in a previous life I remember putting together promos for Kansas featuring their old songs and this was after livgren and company had left the fold.

It's just a fact of life and it won't change.

I agree completely (alert the media!!! ). My guess, too, is if these are classic rock stations, the promos have the songs radio listeners are familiar with hearing which, in the case of Styx, would be the Classic Styx versions of the songs they play on their stations.

I do think it is a cop-out not to include the big Current Styx hit, I Am the Walrus, in these promos, but these stations evidently decide on their own what is relevant to selling tickets.

Convenient excuse to let the band off the hook.

If this band wanted anything approaching integrity they wouldn't do any of those songs to start with and thus could tell the promoters not to put them in the ads.

But of course, they want to be booked for shows rather than sitting home.

I'm surprised that songs from Cyclowhatever weren't used in the Promo

You would think they would have used the Walrus song too since JY was just in the studio promoting it and the Doctor song. He was promoting that these songs are included on the upcoming tour.

I guess it's easier for radio promotions to put together songs that listeners can identify with the group Styx, oh yeah, Dennis & Tommy written songs.

I hope everyone has a GREAT day today, TGIF :D

Damn if I dont remember like it was yesterday that Too Much Time On My Hands was used as a promo song in St. Paul on KQRS 92.5 FM when Styx was doing their Edge Of The Century tour. Shame on Dennis, JY, Chuck, & John!!!!!!!!!

That wouldn't have bothered me way back when :) It just bothered me earlier this morning. But I'm Okay since it was cleared up that it was the radio promotions departments. Whew. Much better - thanks everyone.

Good choice of song for the morning, I'll have to put in "Too Much Time On My Hands", I feel like clapping.

Yogi are you going to the show tomorrow night? Is it anywhere close to you?

Wished I could go. But right now its impossible for me. The only Texas show I could of possibly made was the one in Beaumont. That show was last night, and on a Thursday with a three plus hour drive, I just couldnt swing it.

Now if it were Glen or a DDY lost Treasures show I would of been there in a NY minute.

I think they play Addison, Texas tomorrow night. I have NO clue where that is?????????

I would like to try and catch them somewhere this summer if they play with Boston. Is that tour still a go????????

No clue about Boston and Styx, probably just another rumor from the rumor mill (media). So far a few of those bands in the "touring article" came true.

I thought there were 3 Texas dates for Carrot Styx right in a row this week. (?)

McAllen is way down in the valley (that show is tonight). The only one that was semi close was last nights performance in Beaumont.

Tomorrow they play in Addison. I dont have a clue where that is??

Addison appears to be right outside of Carrollton, at what looks to be an hour north of Dallas.

McAllen is at the bottom of the state. It's a border town to Mexico.

Darned if I didn't see a sort of rickety bus with the wheels about to come off heading down Interstate 10 today! I THOUGHT it said "Styx" on the side, but I may have read that wrong.

8)

Yogi, I am amazed you didn't go see the "best lineup ever" in Beaumont!

Well, welcome to Texas, guys! Hope you have fun on those long bus rides. The wildflowers are really pretty right now.

The BEST Styx lineup ever ended back in 1975-1976 when Dennis reportedly??? drove John C. to near insanity.

Dennis, himself might of been speaking about this in his letter he just posted to Suzzane and his fans on his website.

I would then say the second best Styx lineup EVER ended when Dennis reportedly??? lost the A&M recording contract and there was never a follow up CD for Edge Of The Century.

The third BEST Styx lineup ended when Glen left to pursue Welcome To Hollywood and be with his family.

I would say the lineup now touring is the fifth BEST Styx lineup. With the fourth best being the lineup responsible for all of their fame.
