Big Bang Theory is good for Dennis too.

Postby ChicagoSTYX » Tue May 10, 2005 1:47 am

It seems a little strange to me that the people who are shall we say “not fans of the current Styx lineup” are ominously quite right now. Big Bang Theory has been getting very good reviews, a lot of publicity, and apparently will be high profile in many of the nations top retailers. Why no comments from the detractors? My hope is that every one of us here can enjoy this record and be happy that the name Styx is being seen and heard again like it should be. If this record is successful it can only mean good things for the band past and present. Think about it, if Styx were to have a hit album, that would also bring Dennis to the forefront. It would increase sales of the back catalog and ticket sales for both Styx and Dennis. It’s obvious that Styx is not the same band they were in the 70’s but they are a great band who deserves to be heard. Any thoughts?

There is nothing to talk about right now.

Big Bang Theory has been getting very good reviews, a lot of publicity,

Cyclorama got good reviews and alot of pub and it tanked
Big Bang will tank even faster .
Cover cds last as long as Adam with an errection 5 -10 min tops

and apparently will be high profile in many of the nations top retailers.

Come on CS its a 7 dollar cut out already,

Are you insane
The name STYX is a joke.
When will you get it
I can't even find 1 person who were all die hard Styx fans to take my tickets for free. Your jumping on the band wagon .

This is not going to be a hit cd CS

Yea they don't deserve to be heard .
This is a cover cd and a failed tour on the way
Styx will not be able to compete in this summers concert market
Too many great shows will blow them away
See them while you can this game is all but over

Not much to say, Chicago. I don't consider this band Styx, so it is ok with me whatever happens. They are getting a nice push for it and I think that is fine.

I know it makes Current Styx fans happy to see this rolling along well now. I will reserve judgment for 6 months from now and how well it is still selling. But I have no quarrel with this covers CD. The cuts I have heard of the non-JY, non-Gowan songs are good. Nice harmonies.

If I remember, I plan to watch them this Saturday on the Today show. But I fear it will be Gowan who we will hear, unfortunately. I would MUCH rather hear something Tommy sings.

I have broken MY "ominous" silence on this at least!

Adam: This is the kind of banter coming from a major DeYoung supporter. Froy, it's disrespectful, offensive, rude, uncalled for and show a complete inability to communicate INTELLIGENTLY.

I don’t think Cyclorama got all that much publicity. Most of the big chains didn’t carry it except Best Buy. Same with Brave New World but I will agree that the reviews were very good for Cyclorama.

As for all the rest of the comments made by Froy about my last post, time will tell. I think Big Bang Theory will do better then Brave New World and Cyclorama combined. I’m not saying that it’s better then either CD I just think the marketing is much better starting with the cover of the CD. STYX in big letters right across the center of the cover will catch your eye as you walk past the end cap at Target, Best Buy, or K-Mart. That will translate to sales to the casual fan. It sure can’t hurt. The word Styx was so small on the cover of Cyclorama you had to really look at it to see who the CD was by. I hear there is also a TV ad campaign starting soon.

I think it will have a large initial push, then like most other cd's by classic rock acts, be they covers or not, it will fade. I think it's great it's getting all this publicity. As for Chicago Styx' comments about Cyclo not being in stores other than Best Buy, I saw it at several Targets and Wal-Mart's when it came out. Not saying it got the same amount of hype, just that I saw them.

As for DeYoung getting some mileage out of it, I don't know. He could, however he could have with Cyclo as well.

Let's just be happy that each is getting exposure.

And for what it's worth, I think the crack about Adam was really low and uncalled for.

This is all irrelevant. You guys are putting WAY too much emphasis on how well this CD sells, or how 'successful' it is. It's either a good CD worth listening to, or it isn't. It almost sounds like some you think it will be worse if it doesn't do well, or it is better because it IS doing well.

The truth is (and I think the original point in the first post) it is good to see Styx getting some good support and promotion from a label. There is nothing wrong with that. It is what should have happened with BNW and Cyclorama. I'm sure the news of this release is getting to people who had NO IDEA that either of those other albums were released.

I'm very pleased with the Marketing campaign for BBT.......the "Value prcing" and publicity in the Sunday Flyers should make a lot of people who are curious buy, or at least consider buying this release.

Monker, your take on this is valid...sales aren't everything, but it would be a big boost to the group if they were to have at least some sales success with this one.....after all, 6 years is a long time to work and not make any significant inroads.....I think their Pyschie ( sic ? ) could use a little inflating....would be good for the creative process in the future.

Maybe if you were to post on this board about wanting to give the tickets away you might get a taker.

Styx will always be my favorite group. My favorite line up is DDY, TS, and JY. But I think the line up is doing well, and from what I have heard from the new cd, is great.-ERIC
