Here's another fun one to read. My favorite part was from James Young and how he likes to "hit the late-night disco's" - LOL Oh, and don't forget, these are "Sexy Rockers" - LOL

Enjoy :)

16 Magazine – 8/79

Non-Stop STYX!

With Tours Galore, Eight Hot Albums, And Another LP In The Works, These Sexy Rockers Are Anything But Styx-In-The-Mud!!

They’ve just finished a whirlwind U.S. tour that has left you screaming for more hard-rockin’ music – and that’s exactly what you’re gonna get! Styx is getting’ set to follow up the phenomenal success of their The Grand Illusion and Pieces of Eight LPs with yet another fantastic album – and they plan to do a globe-hoppin’ world tour after that! The Chicago-based band spends most of their time on the road so they can bring their super sound to as many of you as possible-the fun of planning a colorful stage cutting a studio LP, no matter how great it sounds! Styx sure has come a long way from their days as opening band for KISS-now they’re red-hot headliners who can stand on their own! Put the talents of the five Styx-ers together and you get musical dynamite, but each one of these high-powered honeys is pretty terrific by himself-on stage or off!

Tommy Shaw

At 5’6” and 128 lbs., Styx’s foxy singer might be the smallest member of the group, but he’s a giant when it comes to music-all ya’ need is an earful for proof! Twenty-five-year-old Tommy hails from Montgomery, Alabama, where he grew up learning to play the piano and guitar and loving the outdoors-being out in the country is his second favorite thing in life! The first? Performing in concert, natch-Tommy’s dream is to play in every country on earth! When he’s not on the road, Tommy unwinds in his ultra-private country ranch in Michigan, where he enjoys horseback riding, romping with his dogs “Starr” and “Arrow”, driving his jeep and canoeing-but he always saves some time for reading and answering letters from you!

James Young

Guitarist and synthesizer-whiz “J.Y.” is an outgoin’ extrovert-that energy you see on stage and hear in his sexy voice never stops flowin’ for a minute! J.Y. loves to give parties at his Chicago home, talk on the phone for hours, and hit the late-night discos-where this 6’ 1 ½” blond hunk makes some hit himself! Sports like football, hockey, basketball, and raquetball help to keep his weight down to 170 lbs., and so does plenty of lean steak-J.Y. loves it barbecued! In his occasional quiet moments, J.Y. likes to watch The Gong Show and Star Trek (he studied aerospace engineering!) and curl up with cat “Tallulah” and a bundle of letter from you!

Dennis DeYoung

Next to music, Dennis’ major passion in life is baseball-Styx’s keyboardist is an avid Chicago White Sox fan! The 5’11”, 160 lb. Songwriter (he composed Styx’s first hit, “Lady”!) wanted to be a pro baseballer at one time, but his love of music was stronger! Green-eyed Dennis is also into collecting electronic gadgets like video-recorders and tape equipment-his secluded Chicago home is packed with ‘em! Dennis’ other loves? Juicy lobsters, his Corvette, and lots of mail!

Chuck Panozzo

Talk about all-around genius-not only does bass-playin’ Chuck make beautiful music, he’s a fantastic artist too! He would have been an art teacher if he weren’t in Styx-now he draws ‘n paints between tour dates and whenever he gets the chance on the road! This 5’10”, 143 lb. Single guy also loves spaghetti dinners, dancing, shopping for clothes, listening to Barbra Streisand, Billy Joel and the Eagles and letters!

John Panozzo

Drummer John is twenty minutes younger than twin brother Chuck, but he’s beardless, taller and heavier at 5’11” and 165 lbs.- you shouldn’t have any trouble telling ‘em apart! When he’s not makin’ music with Styx, you can find John driving through Chicago in his Ferrari, watching or playing hockey, and enjoying the home-cooked pleasures of Italian food-he also digs making his own movies and watching flicks and documentaries on TV!

And to add, I really can't see JY sitting in front of the tv watching "The Gong Show" LOL That was funny. (But I remember watching the Gong Show when I was a little one)

I used to love those gushy teen magazines back in the day. You could almost take any article, insert name of flavor of the month teen dream in there, and all the info would basically be the same.

It is funny to see Styx written about in that context.

I will give them this. Back in their touring days of the 70's and 80's, they looked really nice onstage. Very classy, clean, nice looking guys.

They all had rock and roll hair, and, in some cases, a lot of facial hair, and some "interesting" stage attire, but they looked very nice too. I think it is a big contrast to how the band Styx looks now and will leave it at that.

I'm glad they all updated their wardrobe on stage - LOL The jumpsuits were so sexy in the 80's.

Oooh, the rock and roll hair Bugsy!! I'm glad they did get their haircuts, the long hair on older guys drives me nuts.

Is that why they look so unkempt? Well maybe that is it, then.

Well, Bugs, I can't speak for the guys, but for me personally, it's a combination of age, wear and tear, and simply not caring as much about how I look :D
