"The light sensitivity made me feel like I had chronic fatigue, and I just couldn't get better," De-Young recalls. "The guys wanted to go out, and I said I needed a little more time. But they put new players in, took the name and ran off. Obviously, that created some hard feelings."

Thanks for running off
You ruined a great band

I would also like to thank Tommy and JY for keeping Styx alive and well for the past 7 years. They could have easily walked away when Dennis started with his controlling attitude during BNW but they didn’t and Styx is a better band today because of it. They gave the fans of Styx music something to be proud of in returning to the true roots of Styx music with Cyclorama and Big Bang Theory and hopefully many more CD’s to come. The concerts are fun rock concerts filled with great songs and high energy! So Thank You JY and Tommy for returning STYX to what I always like most about them.

Sincerely,
Styx Fan USA!

Froy,

You are NOT telling the entire story of why Dennis got booted. You are telling you're version or the version that you want to believe.

None of us know the entire truth. Hell, Dennis, JY and Tommy probably dont even know the entire truth. They know the truth as THEY see it.

The other point is, you are NOT speaking for all Styx fans, or this 'majority' as you somehow have dreamed it up in your head.

Today's Styx obviously is doing OK. They have secured a damn good label. They create and release new music. They tour. People do come to see them. They make enough money to feed themselves and their families.

All parties seem to be happy, with the exception of you and the so called 'die hard' fans that you somehow know, that are boycotting the current group. Its a group that many of us here feel you have invented for the sake of your argument.

Here are some facts: Styx has been touring without Dennissince 1999. It is now 2005. If the members were not happy or making money they would pack it in( like Glen did). There is a market for current Styx. Promoters pay for their show to come to their town. Dennis is now touring. Dennis plans to release new material minus Tommy, JY, etc. This is Andrews board. We are all guests here. You are NOT fair and balanced coverage of the Styx 'crisis'!

Im not telling any version
Im quoting Dennis

None of us know the entire truth. Hell, Dennis, JY and Tommy probably dont even know the entire truth. They know the truth as THEY see it.

Its been 6 years who really cares about the truth
The fact as I see it is Styx has degraded themselves
Put the bus in the barn or rework the lineup
Im sure there would be allot of happy people if Dennis returned

The other point is, you are NOT speaking for all Styx fans, or this 'majority' as you somehow have dreamed it up in your head.

I’m not trying to speak for anyone but myself
And as far as the majority there is NO WAY there are more happy people in the STYX fan base right now.
Just look at this new cd I don't hear anything about it anymore but the late reviews. When you see less than 10 thousand sales you will get my drift

Today's Styx obviously is doing OK. They have secured a damn good label. They create and release new music. They tour. People do come to see them. They make enough money to feed themselves and their families.

So what
Are they back to 1981 level Yogi?
I’m not saying that if Dennis was in they would but they would at least have a chance, Right now they have no chance
Nobody is embracing Larry Gowan or his music.

All parties seem to be happy, with the exception of you and the so called 'die hard' fans that you somehow know, that are boycotting the current group.

All parties meaning who?
You don't think deep down Dennis would go back to Styx?
You’re fooling yourself man
Today’s fan is not a true Styx fan
They can't the founder of the band is not even in the lineup.

Here are some facts: Styx has been touring without Dennis since 1999. It is now 2005. If the members were not happy or making money they would pack it in (like Glen did

They were going to pack it in Yogi until this foolish cover cd idea came up.

There is a market for current Styx.

Yogi please
Look at the small venues they are playing
I checked on TM and one of there shows is sold to the 13 row.
And it’s a 2000 seater.
In your mind there is a market.

[This is Andrews’s board. We are all guests here. You are NOT fair and balanced coverage of the 'Styx' crisis!

I’m speaking from the heart Yogi
Andrews’s comments to me were uncalled for
I did not break any rules
My coverage of current Styx is very fair and balanced.

Does anyone think that Tommy and Ricky should have their hair cut? Is long hair still "in" for older guys? Just wondering.

I still think Tommy's voice is pretty good over the years. Thank you Tommy for great songs growing up :)

Thank you JY for a great and fun interview, I really appreciate it.

If it weren't for these 2 guys, I would've missed out on GREAT concerts by Dennis. Thanks to these guys, I heard "Unfinished Song" live for the first time. Wow and also "Pieces of Eight" with an orchestra, oh and don't forget "Queen of Spades" & "Borrowed Time" and OMG, if Dennis wasn't kicked out, I NEVER would've heard "Castle Walls" live. Thank you SO much!!

Thanks to these guys, I met some really, really, really, really great Dennis friends!! :)

So I guess I can thank these guys.

Froy,

Do you REALLY think Dennis would come back to Styx and play along side Tommy and JY after all that has happened since 1999?
Do you actually think they could go in the studio again together and cut another good 'ROCK' album? We know where Dennis musical tastes have drifted to and also know the type of music JY and Tommy want to put out there to their fans? They have co-existed before, but in my opinion Dennis's have REALLY strayed from rock.

Do you think they could go out on the road again TOGETHER and do a 30 city tour? What type of crowds do you think this tour would generate? Do you actually think it would garner bigger crowds then Styx and Dennis are getting now? Do you TRULY believe that most people that are going to see Styx today know that the band is missing DDY?

Do you believe that JY, Tommy,Todd& Ricky or Chuck would get rid of Gowan? Would losing Gowan hurt the band? He is pretty damn good live. The fans do like him. His songs are the ones today getting the most radio love.

Finally, Styx has sold over 19,000 CD's in BBT first week of release. It entered Billboard at # 46. There is a market for the current band. Would Dennis help or hurt them now??

Be HONEST!!!!!!

Or they could have listened to Dennis, waited and finished BNW properly instead of using Ron Nevision, one of the cheesiest producers on the planet, and BNW would actually sound like a Styx album instead of a Tommy Shaw solo album.

They also could have waited a year to let Dennis recover and toured in 2000 with a great album and a much better line-up!

Oh what could have been.

I don’t think any album produced by DDY at this point in his career would be anything close to a rock album. I honestly think they are better without him right now.

Sing with me Hip Hop Hip Hopocrisy Hip Hop, or GREAT GREAT GREAT Expectations, how about Fallen Angel Fallen Angel something about how far youve fallen... Blame Tommy and his production those songs are pure crap. No producer could save those.!!!

ChicagoStyx says:

I think if Dennis was still with Styx and produced another Styx album, I can bet it would've been a mix of songs on the album. I think there would've been a nice variety of "rock" songs. I think this time around, the album would've been the closest to the early Styx sounds but still would've been with the current music. That's IF they were all together. I think if they had this one album, this would've been the last and would've been a success - just my little opinion. But we'll never know

Do you all really think Cyclo..... was a "rock" album? Do you all really think that ALL the songs were "rock" songs?

The music of Styx has always been a great variety of songs per album. That what was so GREAT about them.

If I want to hear mostly "rock" songs, I put on my old Metallica cd's.

They said the same thing about the Eagles Yogi .
They hated each other and now they have been touring for years.
You just don't know what would happen.

I think they could go into the studio and do a great STYX cd
Produced by Dennis
Yes I think so

We know where Dennis musical tastes have drifted to

No you don't
The last time I saw his musical tastes I saw Pieces of 8
Queen of Spades , Best Thing Borrowed Time and Madame Blue live
STOP using this excuse its old news man.

and also know the type of music JY and Tommy want to put out there to their fans?

Yea covers
They are on the treadmill.

They have co-existed before, but in my opinion Dennis's have REALLY strayed from rock.

He strayed from Rock after Pieces of 8 and there biggest tour was after that.

Do you think they could go out on the road again TOGETHER and do a 30 city tour?

They would do a 50 city tour

What type of crowds do you think this tour would generate? Do you actually think it would garner bigger crowds then Styx and Dennis are getting now?

Hands Down it would.

Do you TRULY believe that most people that are going to see Styx today know that the band is missing DDY?

There are only a few thousand so maybe not
They are the minority

Do you believe that JY, Tommy,Todd& Ricky or Chuck would get rid of Gowan?

Yep they got rid of Dennis why not Gowan
It would be sold another way though
Gowan would quit like Burtnick did.

Would losing Gowan hurt the band?

Hiring him never helped the band
Losing him with Dennis back in would be a HUGE shot in the arm.

He is pretty damn good live.

What at playing sampled material
Look at TMTOMH the intro is sampled
Thats not Gowan playing it.
Don't be fooled by the radio tv or the mags.

The fans do like him. His songs are the ones today getting the most radio love.

There not his songs dude there covers
Let him do a solo cd of covers and he can be loved somewhere else.

Finally, Styx has sold over 19,000 CD's in BBT first week of release. It entered Billboard at # 46. There is a market for the current band. Would Dennis help or hurt them now??

19 thousand cds for a STYX cd is an embarrasemnt
They make it sound like its a huge deal
Be real 250 thousand would be huge

You know Yogi, I disagree. I like those songs. They aren't his best work, but they are also not his worst. I like the lyrics. Shoot me.

Beyond that, I think Dennis could produce a "rock" album, however I do think the split was for the best. Each man in that band had his own idea of what the band was. And now each is able to do what they like...be it rock, ballads, tour non-stop, tour sporadically. It's all good in the end.

CS it's not the job of Dennis to write rock tunes
Thats what JY and Shaw are there for
Dennis fills the third side of the band with the ballad
Thats why they were so popular
