I took my son to see a very good show last night. This was his first STYX concert and he really enjoyed it. Thank you Froy for the tickets.
First the bad:
$15 to park and $5 for a thimble full of beer for a "FREE" show. Ouch!
The sound was WAY off for the first 3 songs. I couldn't even tell that the band had begun playing. The PA was basically turned off. Although I could kind of hear the vocals.
The usher Natzis kept everyone planted firmly in their seats. I didn't see anyone stand until Chuck Panozzo got a standing ovation.
Now the good:
Once the sound problems were fixed, the show was great. All the classics were performed. We were treated to 5 songs off of Big Bang, but sadly nothing from Cyclorama.
The Cyclomedley was great. I really like how organic it has become. Recent additions include: Shooz, Midnight Ride, Sing For The Day, Queen of Spades and Half Penny Two Penny (which was basically a really good drum solo by Todd).
As I mentioned, Chuck was there to perform Fooling Yourself, Come Sail Away and Renegade. Ricky switched to a strat when Chuck was on stage.
Koko Taylor came out for the encore and performed All Night Long (which seemed to go on all night) and Sweet Home Chicago.
Say what you will about Gowan. But he has a great voice and is an excellent entertainer. My son mentioned that he had the best stage presence of anyone in the band.
