OT - INXS TV Show

Postby styxfanNH » Sat May 28, 2005 11:37 pm

I had heard this awhile ago but apparently its coming to fruition. INXS is looking for a new lead singer and are going to find him through reality TV.

How bad could this be?

And how desperate!!!

There is also the show that pits the 80's groups/singers against one another in an American Idol type of event. THIS ones sounds really wacky, but one I will likely watch, at first..... I think it is called "Hit Me Baby One More Time"? Perfect. A show about 80's performers with the title from a Britney Spears 90's song.

I didn't think this was possible... but this is actually worse than what happened with what will be Queen and to a lesser extent.... Styx.

Perhaps they could get Constantine from American Idol... he has kinda that whiney pretentious rock/wannabe voice.

Constantine has an annoying crooning habit, but he has a pretty great voice. He could easily be the Phantom of the Opera or Jesus Christ Superstar. IMO, he would be a great replacement for Michael Hutchins. He even looks a little like him.

Styx is not even a close example of this Ash

Depends on your point-of-view, NH. And I say this fully realizing there are at least two points-of-view here, if not more.

Luckily for all of us, Styx was fortunate enough to land "Dennis DeYoung sound alike, Lawrence Gowan" !!!! 'Cus it would really suck if they hadn't found someone with that kind of vocal talent !

Where in the world does that quote come from that you keep using?

And what was the name of that reality show they had to hire Lawrence and Glen?

It was in a review posted on another thread here.....actually, it's reared it's head a couple of different times in the past few years, I just latched onto it after the recent one.

Maybe......... just maybe.... if I write it and say it enough, it will come true !!!!!

Well, INXS is on their world tour now with JD Fortune at the helm.

Last Friday I caught the show in Boston at a 4000 seat venue. Yes it was sold out, and yes there were plenty of tickets available on the street.

It was a good show, running through their hits of yesteryear with 3 of the songs from the current album tossed in.

Without a doubt, JD holds the energy of the band, and is becoming a personality that can lead this band for the next ten years if they choose to go that long. He fits in well with the chemistry of the band and should suit them well.

The other members did seem a little "stiff" on stage, but I suspect they always did. Even on the summer show, they never really seemed to inspire that full all out attack on the music that I think their music has. They never really seemed to run to the edge of the cliff to give it that something extra, instead a nice slow walk with a peek over to see what is there.

Ironicly enough the song that got the biggest pop wasn't any of the old songs, but Pretty Vegas - a JD Fortune penned song.

Don't get me wrong, it was a good show. 90 minutes of standing, dancing, and bouncing to the music. But, I couldn't help but wanting more, not from soung selection but from the music. I'd go again because seeing the growth in JD as a frontman for the band has been fun to see and I like their style of music. And knowing JD has only been with the band for 6 months, I am willing to give them the benefit of the doubt.

If you want a trip down memory lane, you'll love the show. And if they come around again I will probably take the show in again to see how they have adjusted. I'd say the show was a 8 of 10 and while not a must see if you are a casual fan, even a casual fan will have a good time.

It is fun reading what we said about this last May, LOL! Turns out "Rock Star-INXS" was a good idea and gave this band new life.

JD has turned out to be just what they needed, and the band did well with record sales of their new CD and are selling out their tour stops.

Thanks for the review, NH.

The guy that was sitting behind me was talking to someone else and asked what radio station was hyping the show seeing a band of this age had sold out the venue.

Seems like 12 weeks on tv, twice a week didn't reach everyone.
