OT - Hit Me Baby One More Time (80's Music Show)

Postby SuiteMadameBlue » Sun May 29, 2005 1:55 am

Just like Bugsy mentioned, next week will be a show called "Hit Me Baby One More Time".

I'm looking forward to this show and the first week they're going to have Loverboy on :D

What would any of you think if Dennis, Glen or Carrot Styx was a part of this show? Would it be a good thing or not?

Here's the information:

http://www.nbc.com/nbc/Hit_Me_Baby/

Veteran hitmakers perform and compete! Based on the popular UK show of the same name, "Hit Me Baby One More Time" tracks down hitmakers from the past and they take the stage in a new competition in which you're the judge! Former Top Ten artists return to perform their trademark hit song along with one of today's current hits. At the end of the night, the live audience votes for their favorites!
Coming Soon...

Wang Chung, The Knack, Irene Cara, Sophie B. Hawkins, Cameo, Tommy Tutone, Vanilla Ice, The Motels and more!

It looks like the first week will be Loverboy up against Tiffany, Arrested Development, A Flock of Seagulls and CC Peniston.

Everybody have fun tonight! Everybody wang chung tonight!

LOL!

This may be interesting.

Oh, and, no, I do not think it would be a good idea for any member of, or former member of, Styx to appear in any way, shape or fashion on this show.

What happens for some reason their "old" songs become popular again, their "old" cd's are rising on the charts because of being exposed again to a new audience? What happens if bigger name names come on the show? What happens if the "new" song they have to perform sounds really good and makes it on the radio with them singing it?

Whatcha think?

I hope this show doesn't tank, my mind was thinking to fast with this post of questions - LOL

Looks like a list of people that really haven't been around the music scene in awhile.

Regardless what ya think, Styx nor Dennis would be appropriate, not just on this level but on a number of levels.

As I am sitting here watching this because I've already seen CSI and there is nothing of any importance on the other 500 channels on cable, I would have to say this.

Tiffany - ok but she had a better range and stage presence when she was 16. But, on the other hand, she has certainly grown up...

Flock of Seagulls was ok, but we saw better on Bands Reunited.

Arrested Development - There was a reason I never listened to them before. Now I remember why.

CC Penniston - Guess I never remembered that she was ever around and won't after this show.

Loverboy - God Awful. There's a reason they aren't touring as a nostalgia act right now.

Those are the 5 I've seen. and the Covers so far are awful across the board.

Arrested Development won....oh bother

til next week

They're not?
I am pretty sure they opened for Journey last summer.
I agree, pretty rancid all around.

While you won't find me leading any Bring Back Loverboy crusades, I do remember getting quite a kick out of them back in the day. Didn't they have that video with the drummer playing the gas pumps, or something? I think I have their greatest hits package somewhere, but I'm not sure where, which should give you an idea of how often it's out of the CD case!!!!

I remember seeing them back in the day. Back in the day is one thing, today is another. I remember way back when, they waited 20 minutes after their last song before they came back for the encore. They just wanted to hear 15,000 girls scream at the top of their lungs and the rest of us guys watching the girls. 15,000: 5,000 wasn't a bad ratio, especially the way the girls dressed back then. so I reminisce again about my teenage years, seem to be doing a lot of that lately. Go figure.

Mike Reno has never had good stage presence. I always thought he looked very awkward onstage, like he doesn't know what to do with his hands. But I like a lot of old Loverboy songs. "Turn Me Loose" is how I discovered them. They don't have it anymore, though. Neither does Flock of Seagulls.

Although the show wasn't demeaning to the artists, which I thought it may be, it is still very jive. Could be done much better. Don't think I will watch it again.

Ek says:

I think the video was for "Hot Girls in Love".

I love LOVERBOY!! I thought they were great when I saw them a couple years ago. Mike Reno is awesome and so are the other guys in the band :) I can't wait to see them again!!

But, I thought last night they weren't that great. I still enjoyed watching them, but a little disappointed.

I didn't care for "Flock of Seagulls", I wish I would've seen "Bands Reunited", I heard that was a good episode, just like you said styxfanNH.

I thought Tiffany and CeCe had pretty good voices, I was impressed. As for Arrested Development, huh? I remember the name but couldn't name any songs.

I'll watch this show again. I love to see how they look now and I enjoy how they sing "their" song and then a song from today. They have to get rid of the host though, I don't care for him.

HIT ME BABY A HITWITH VIEWERS:
Long overdue is my plug for a new TV Show in the USA - Hit Me Baby One More Time on NBC. The network blurb reads: "NBC has added a new alternative series to its summer 2005 lineup with "Hit Me Baby One More Time," a one-hour competition program featuring veteran music hit-makers who will each perform their greatest hit -- as well as cover a popular contemporary song -- with the favorite to be determined by audience voting..."
Great to see some melodic rock on mainstream TV - featured first week were Loverboy and coming up June 9 is Night Ranger! Also coming on future episodes are: Wang Chung, The Knack, Irene Cara, Sophie B. Hawkins, Cameo, Tommy Tutone, Vanilla Ice, The Motels and more.

How does Night Ranger end up on the has been list of groups for this show?

My main complaint about the show is that is is pre-recorded and the audience votes on the winner. It would be a lot better if it was more like Idol, and American could vote. I really could care less what some audience in Burbank thinks about music.

Money goes to charity, so it is not like these are desperate musicians trying to win a record deal. I am sure they love being on prime time TV, and it will generate new fans. So I can see why NR would go on it.

OK, I will add my .02. This show had a certain cheesy appeal. There sure was a whole lot MORE of the two Mike's (Reno and Score) than I remember!

I somehow got the notion that someone pitched Band's Reunited meets American Idol and this show came out of the mix and got put on NBC and in Great Britain. Bands Reunited was by far a better program. I would love to see more of those. (And I noticed that Flock of Seagulls have gone back to one original member after getting them all together for the VH1 show. I guess the other Score brother is back working in the plastics factory.).

I know everyone who participated was looking for a little career boost and a bit of exposure, so you cannot blame them.

I do look forward to seeing Night Ranger and Wang Chung but not so much Billy Ray or Vanilla. Oh well, gotta take the bad with the good I guess.

At least this show offers something a little different for summer viewing.

BTW, that 9 foot tall host (or however tall he is!) hosted the British version from what I understand.

Sad thing about a Flock of Seagulls is that Mike Score is the only original left. And by the way he looks and sounds nothing like he used to. Any four of us could have done as well. very very sad. Loverboy was little better. Tiffany couldn't hold a candle to Kelly Clarkson (who won a reality TV show). Yikes! At least Night Ranger is still a viable band. The last two albums they made are pretty good. Still I wonder what the odds are of them actually winning (keep in mind who's voting). Keep your fingers crossed.

Next week's lineup:

Tommy Tutone
The Knack
The Motels
Vanilla Ice
Haddaway

I look forward to Tommy Tutone. Gosh, wonder what he will sing??? Oh yeah...his one hit.

I love the Motels. I hope it is most of the original group that was reunited for Bands Reunited.

Here's your bit of useless musical trivia: Tommy Tutone is the name of the band, not of an individual. I just found that out recently; I thought it was a guy for the longest time. :)

You know what? I knew that, but the song and the singer have always been so closely tied together. I should have said what "he/THEY" will sing. LOL! You know, I always liked that song, too.

Found this on one of my other boards:

Here is the lineup for this week's episode on Hit Me Baby One More Time.

Tommy Tutone - 867-5309/Jenny and All The Small Things by Blink 182

Haddaway - What Is Love and ?????

The Knack - My Sharona and Are You Gonna Be My Girl by Jet

Vanilla Ice - Ice Ice Baby and Survivor by Destiny's Child

The Motels - Only The Lonely and Don't Know Why by Norah Jones

The NBC website didn't have Haddaway's current song choice listed.

I am really looking forward to The Motels. The current songs being sung by Tommy Tutone and by The Knack sound very interesting as well.

I find his show quite pathetic and is he nail in the coffin of all of the performers.

Let's hope none of them had any hopes of having a serious career of any sort after this.
