A Bit tense here isn't it?

Postby RossUK » Tue Jun 21, 2005 7:38 am

 I cant believe that after 6 years how deep hostilities run here.

Blimey, I posted a review of the gig in Bristol and you feel like some posters absolutely hate the fact that people enjoyed it.

I just feel like obviously Dennis was right. Some people think that if he's not in Styx no one will buy tickets. How up your arse can you get.

Yeah the audiences were indifferent in the UK. But enjoyment and the quality remains the same to the fans whether they are standing amongst several thousand people or a few hundred.

Yeah slag off BBT. I feel like it too sometimes. I dont think Styx (in any form) need to do a cover album. But a few tunes on it rock. Another studio album should have followed the momentum of Cyclorama.

Its alright to like DDY, but these posters think it is all about him. And they must be really grated by the fact that 6 years on that people still go see them and actually say how frigging good it is. And no, if DDY was still with them they wouldnt be playing huge stadiums every week which is what you lot think would be happening. DDY began thinking it was all beneath him, and you lot do too. Yeah, I think its sad when I see 'Minnesota State fair' on their tour dates. I think back to the great days of packing arenas and being the talk of the town. BUT it still wouldnt be any different if DDY was with them. To get Radio play for new material for Styx and the like is impossible. STILL it would be the same with DDY. But fucking fair play to them. They just want to get out their and play. 700 shows in 6 years WITHOUT DDY. If it was going to dry up WITHOUT DDY it would have around the 50 show mark.

You lot whinge about how 'Cyclorama and BBT sales are shit' well at least they put themselves to the test. DDY's orchestra double CD was only available via his website. Why didnt he put it out on national release???
How many has that sold? Yeah Dennis is really the big 'I am' isnt he?

You lot dont like it when DDY gets slagged off, well here it is.He can do no fucking wrong in your eyes. Yeah, Tommy and JY I think have made a few errors since they got rid of Dennis, but you lot dont lay any fault at Dennis' s door at all. Lets see a responce with a bit of substance in with your displeasure rather than just a snide remark toward the poster or the current lineup.

I'm not having people insinuate I'm a wanker just because I enjoy STYX past AND present.

Styx rocked from 1975 to 1981 both live and in the studio (I like Babe!)

Kilroy was very patchy.
Edge was good in places
Return to Paradise tour rocked
Brave New World  Apart from his ballad WTST was that the STYX we would have had to endure under DDY's guidance. No thanks. It was like Broadway in places.
Here in Styxworld life is good and everything is cool!!!!

Welcome to the fun.

Yeah the audiences were indifferent in the UK. But enjoyment and the quality remains the same to the fans whether they are standing amongst several thousand people or a few hundred.

Perhaps if you read through the myriad of posts here, you'll discover your statements aren't new. They've been said countless times on various posts.

Yeah slag off BBT. I feel like it too sometimes. I dont think Styx (in any form) need to do a cover album. But a few tunes on it rock. Another studio album should have followed the momentum of Cyclorama.

The band made a choice. Whether the songs are good choices or not, they went in this direction. They are the ones who have to decide if it was worth it down the road or not.

They just want to get out their and play. 700 shows in 6 years WITHOUT DDY. If it was going to dry up WITHOUT DDY it would have around the 50 show mark.

I think you'll find most people here like Dennis and support him. There are rabid fans on BOTH sides of the fence here. Do not get the impression that it is the case with the majority of the fans here.

I don't know that it would have "dried up" after the number you cite. Heck, that was one month's worth of shows for that lineup (I'M KIDDING). But I do think that's a stretch.

You lot whinge about how 'Cyclorama and BBT sales are shit' well at least they put themselves to the test. DDY's orchestra double CD was only available via his website. Why didnt he put it out on national release???

And Dennis' orchestra show is also sold nationally. no longer just on his website. Chill already. And kindly quit lumping an entire bunch of people together because one or two got your goat.

How many has that sold? Yeah Dennis is really the big 'I am' isnt he?

Let us know when you get the figures as to who sold what. Certainly that's never been used as an argument here ;/

Again, I'd tell you to go look through the many posts here. Dennis has gotten and has been given a lot of credit for the blame. Yes there are snide remarks made. However those who post with some thought or merit are dismissed simply because those looking to get a reaction are more persistent. Many of us tire at tilting at windmills. For the record, I think Dennis should have not been such a perfectionist. I think he should have recognized that the band was evolving. I think the men in the band decided they needed to do what they felt was in their best interest. That being said...not one man in that lineup truly thought of the fans during that whole debacle. And how do we as fans show our support or lack of it...by mud slinging at the men and the "opposing" fans. Six years later and here we still are.

I'm not having people insinuate I'm a wanker just because I enjoy STYX past AND present.

Well all I can tell you is posts like this will do nothing to help. I do not mean that as a slam, rather an observation of how it works around here.

Styx rocked from 1975 to 1981 both live and in the studio (I like Babe!)

I love Dennis...Babe...eh. Styx rocks. Putting time periods on it doesn't change. Past and present.

Kilroy was very patchy.
Edge was good in places
Return to Paradise tour rocked
Brave New World  Apart from his ballad WTST was that the STYX we would have had to endure under DDY's guidance. No thanks. It was like Broadway in places.

Kilroy was a departure for the band. Edge was solid. RTP was great. Brave New World was 2 seperate albums with a badly thought out concept by Tommy. Yes Tommy. I like several cuts from that album. And I truly like the songs you've cited elsewhere as being among my favorites from that album. I would love for someone to tell me what Broadway shows theu've attended that they can make that statement. And for the sake of argument, on every Styx album there are swings in material. Funny how I don't see the same tired arguments on Tommy's songs.

Look, I am sincerely glad you enjoyed the band, and I am glad you continue to support them. Just hoping you can get past that which no one else here seems to be able to change and recognize that there are many fair minded people here.

Peace

apologies, just trying to lighten the mood. :)

I just needed to get that rant out of my system I think. In a way when I was writing it I knew I was no better than all the others. I suppose people now where i stand on it all now

Thankyou Sadie. (The voice of reason)

Peace to you too.

And yeah, one point. I've always thought that about BNW (the concept being Tommys) and how he supposedly hated studio concept albums. I didnt really like 7Deadly zens either. Only a couple tracks.

I can't add anything to what Sadie had to say. RossUK, we have all been there before, over and over and over. When you get the chance, go back into the past threads.

We have rehashed this stuff to death.

I do appreciate that YOU appreciate the work of Dennis DeYoung as well however, and, what's more, admit to it.

But, of course, for some reason, there are those who love to slam him personally. Never have figured that one out. What the hell does that have to do with the music or the voice???

Again, glad you had a positive experience from the concerts and meeting members from the band.

Ross,

Upon reading your review of the show, it sounds remarkably similar to mine. Welcome to our own little patch of insanity. Keep posting in any style you wish, you'll soon find that no matter how you word your posts, someone will find issue with at least part of it.

I think you have the right attitude to last as long as you wish here. Glad you enjoyed the show. By the way, IML isn't really that bad, just don't make any sudden movements around him. :D

Thankyou Sadie. (The voice of reason)

who woulda thunk it........

Welcome to the new folks that have recently appeared on the site.

Ya have to love the English slang from over there.

Guys, glad you are finally getting the opportunity to see the guys.

And like it has been said, mostly everyone here likes Dennis. And there are both right and leftwingers have a problem or opinion of Dennis' role in the band over the years.

The best way to see where everyone stands is by reading some of the posts prior to March 28th when this was a more happy place.

State your opinions, but don't slam a member and you will be surprised at the wealth of information you can get from those that post here. Some of the most knowledgeable peeps of the band, both past and present.

Once you know where everyone stands, you'll know who to ignore. Hell, it could even be me.

if past members count, the answer is one. Dennis would hold it in place and have the world revolve around him. ;-)

Alternatively, you could replace it with Tommy, if you're so inclined.

Getting back to the first post in this thread , RossUK, just to let you know where I stand, I enjoy the music of both camps, selectively of coarse...

But when it comes to the politics of Styx, I tend to lean in DDY's favor because there some things that Tommy and JY have said and done that I am not to happy with....Lately I have stepped away from that and just stuck with the music.....
