No To Big Bang

Postby froy » Fri Jul 01, 2005 5:27 am

I called the Loop FM 98 and asked them why they stopped playing Styx Big Bang and the DJ said nobody requested it
They tried to get it on the air but after 3 days it was pulled
Wow not great news there fellas.,

Well, I don't listen to the Loop FM 98, so it's no skin off my back, I guess. It's just easier to throw BBT in the CD player than to wait for the radio to play it, anyway.

Just out of curiousity, what was your motivation for making that phone call?

Did you ask them how many times they have played DDY with orchestra since it was released ?

I remember when Milli Vanilli topped the chart and got more airplay than anyone......automatically makes them a great band then eh?

DARREN: I remember when Milli Vanilli topped the chart and got more airplay than anyone......automatically makes them a great band then eh?

ADAM: Excellent point. Froy, I've said it before and I guerss you'll force me to say it again, charts, sales, spins, airplay and popularity proves absolutely nothing in terms of quality.

And if YOU thought it did, then you'd disrespect Dennis due to his lack of numbers...you'd be grooving to the BLACK EYED PEAS or AVRIL LAVIGNE right now.

Froy, DUUUDE! Ya GOTTA use your head A LITTLE now and then...How many times MUST we go through this redundancy?

Whenever you say some blanket statement like "Cover cds are not quality their crap" (sp) someone - like me - will absolutely be COMPELLED for the ONE BILLIONTH TIME to point to a particular album released by a particular ex-lead singer/keyboardist of a classic rock band comprised of covers of famous and not-so-famous Broadway material.

And so the argument goes round and round...If people stop being interested in this board it's because of this redundancy, Froy. It's just not intelligent conversation. And if it would please you (and IML) to chase everyone away, I just want to point out (once again) that the band you and your brethren have been predicting won't last long, has by this time lasted almost as long as the friggin'; Beatles' entire recording career lasted (1962-1969=7 years...Gowan Styx has been 6 years). So even if you were to "win" some kinda 'victory" of boring/annoying/chasing every last person away from this little Styx discourse IT WOULD'NT EFFECT ANYTHING. The band would STILL be touring and recording, Gowan would still be spinning his keyboard, and THOUSANDS UPON THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE WOULD BE BUYING TICKETS, ALBUMS and TSHIRTS.

(PS We understand you have no respect for cover albums. That’s simply your opinion.)

Those are called Standards Adam and just spit it out playground boy
Dennis as a solo artist can do covers all day
STYX had a reputation to uphold and a cover cd does not uphold anything
It lasted less than a week and your still defending it
My god are you brain dead and brain washed
Get over Styx there done man

I don't know if a cd full of cover songs really work for any group, chart wise. Does anyone know? The only one that I heard good things from is the Rush one. I think if a group does a cover of a song or two is great. But a whole cd, I'm not sure, chart wise.

That is the song I like the best on BBT. But I much prefer Blind Faith.

Find a copy of the KBFH Superjam. It was not released as a commercial CD. It is basicaly a radio show of mostly covers..."Good Times", "Roadrunner", "Love Hurts", "Crossroads", "People Get Ready", and lots of others.

It's a great bunch of songs...and it SHOULD be released as a CD.

Yeah, how come Rush can put out a covers CD and no one gives them shit about it? And if U2 put one out, everyone would be lapping it up. Certain groups get cut more slack than others.

All I have to say is, most of today's music SUCKS (IMO, of course) and I, for one, am GLAD that Styx, Journey and Def Lep are putting out music for the audiences that grew up with them -- a GREAT alternative to the CRAP that is being played on the radio today. Personally, I would be shocked if any radio stations DID play anything new from these groups, because it is GOOD MUSIC.

Just my $ .02

Rush is the only "covers" cd that I didn't hear anybody gripe about.

I have no clue who's buying most of today's music. During the school year I worked up at a high school and talked a LOT about music (I played my Styx cd's in the lunch room-LOL) Majority of the kids love the "classic" rock music. A bunch of neighbor kids are going down to Summerfest to see Styx - LOL They like Pink Floyd, Eagles, Beatles, AC/DC, Styx, Journey etc.

It was fun talking about bands that I enjoy listening to and grew up with. They're so happy with the music that I don't like to give the 411 on each group and the soap opera stories - LOL. That's what's really important to keep the music going.

A lot of kids wear the old concert shirts and they would tell me the stories about their parents going to these shows. There were a couple kids that wore old Styx shirts and they told me the shirts didn't fit their mom's anymore - LOL (I know what that's like-UGH). One band that is really popular is Pink Floyd. All these kids, even young ones, really love Pink Floyd. They've been going to see the Australian Pink Floyd that tours and say the concert is just "awesome" and "unbelievable".

I'm still laughing about Monker's comments about the diapers being thrown on the Styx stage next week (for Kid's Day). It's funny, my kids and ALL their friends and cousins that come over really love the song "Mr. Roboto". We have to play it over and over and over. The 8 year olds love "Suite Madame Blue" too. My 4 year old can sing all the words to "Lady" and "Lorelei". LOL Keep the generations going on the music that we grew up with :)

Ditto at my high school. In most cases, it's the older stuff, simply because it gets more airplay than anything new by classic artists. Could you imagine if a new song was played once for every time a classic cut got a spin on the radio? Of course that will never happen

Yeap, and somewhere Frank Farian is saying, "And we were bigger frauds than Styx could ever be ... but don't tell that to Froy!!"
