I've defended some of the things you've said before, but this top's the cake. You are way out of line on this one.

The support for Chuck isn't because he's gay. The support for Chuck is because he is simply one of the nicest guys you would ever meet.

Nice. The guy is like 70% blind, is living with a horrible disease, yet he still manages to make it out to the occasional show of a band he helped create that YOU love, and all you want to do is mock his facial expressions and make a crude remark about his sexuality. Way to go.

I don't think Chuck is the one with something up his ass.

I know I'm not the nicest person when it comes to the current line-up, but this was very, very low.

I'm disappointed that anyone would post something like this.

I agree with Zan.

Perhaps (and I am trying to give the benefit of the doubt here) he didn't know the extent of Chuck's illness. I confess I did not know Chuck's vision had deteriorated that badly until reading it in Zan's post.

It was definitely a very poor choice of words to be sure.

That being said, thanks for the link. Hopefully there will be some additions so Chuck will know that he is appreciated on his birthday.

Peace

Jeez you guys are way to politically correct. I said nothing derogatary about his being gay but you know what I think the gay lifestyle is wrong! Why does that make me a bad person. My only point was the guy looks like he sucking on a lemon. The guy gets paid for his performance and for my money he should smile, wave or otherwise show the auideince his appreciation for thier reception.

Being gay and having contacted AIDS does not mean you should be given more compassion than some poor guy who has a cancer which his lifestyle did not contribute to. Same thing for someone who have a bad liver from drinking. I certainly do not wish any illness on anyone regardless of what they may have done to contribute to that illness. But do not grant hero status to people with AIDS more money is spent on AIDS per death than any other disease and that is wrong. Are any of you familar with "bug chasing" plug the phrase into a search engine and you will find out.

There will always be different types of performers. Chuck has never been the most demonstrative person on stage in the band. For me, his facial expressions take nothing away from his performance. He isn't a front man, never (at least to my knowledge) tried to be a front man. He knows who he is and does things his way. Just like the rest of us.

I can respect your choice that you don't agree with his or any other homosexual individual and their "lifestyle". You made mention of his being gay while trying to reiterate that you were only concerned with his facial expressions. His being gay should have had no part in your statement. Several times now I've come to your defense, as have others. In nearly every case you've said that you are a big guy whose feelings bruise easily. And yet, you choose to get defensive when called on the carpet over your choice of words. Perhaps if more care were taken with words by everyone, we wouldn't be so "politically correct".

As for the amount of money spent on AIDS and whether you find it more appropriate to spend it elsewhere...it is your choice. But allow me to remind you that not everyone afllicted with AIDS contracted it by their "lifestyle". There is an entire continent right struggling with this epidemic. No one here is suggesting that because Chuck Panozzo has AIDS he should garner more sympathy than someone stricken with cancer. Anyone who has a family member suffering from some hideous disease can argue about the amount of money alloted for looking into treatments and cures. And I think perhaps you ought to look a littler harder at what you type before you hit the submit key. Just my .02

OSL,

I see where you are coming from, but you had to know use of the term "butt plug" was going to be offensive a lot of people....didn't you ?

We're all coming from different places and have widely varying perspectives here......You and I are about the same age, yet we see things differently regarding many issues. Speaking only for myself, I've done a lot of stupid things in my life, many of which hurt someone, and that I regret. Because I've come to realize this, one decision I have made is to forgive others wherever possible and to leave the judging of others to God........( I do think Jesus said that was the way to go in one gospel or the other )

On the other hand, I do enjoy a lively discussion !

But I digress......sorry bout that. Chuck NEVER was real animated on stage, even before his illness, was he ?

Good grief, OSL! Have you ever seen a Styx video? Or concert footage? Chuck has ALWAYS been the "serious" guy in the background. His demeanor onstage has been that way as long as he has been in Styx.

Yes indeed. I have a newspaper review of a show they did for Paradise Theater...the line used to describe Chuck...

"Chuck Panozzo attended the Madame Tussaud school of rock guitar"

So I'd say that his on stage persona has always been...to say the least, subdued.

He obviously had difficulty seeing us in the dark but still found time to chat ,sign albums, photos etc, he came across as a very very nice guy I have nothing but the upmost respect for this LEGEND

FROY: I will say as many words to Chuck as he has said to Dennis in the last 6 years . He's a traitor .
ADAM: What a crock. Who do you think you are, Froy? You love the band but YOU decide how their interpersonal relationships should go?

I suppose someone as closed-minded as yourself could never fathom how there could actually be reasons for things outside your knowledge.

You have no basis in the real world and your egomaniacal perspective is so retarded I really hope your offspring spend more time watching TV than interacting with you.

FROY: Yes Chuck is a nice guy I agree
I have spoke to him a few times

ADAM: I suppose we should be impressed and take this as some sort of proof of how deep your understanding of things are?

FROY: Im not happy with him because he was with Dennis in 99 and then turned his back on him

ADAM: So? You have stated you were against what Styx did in '99, right? This makes both Chuck AND DeYoung bastards in Grand Delusional Froypark.
YOU'RE not happy with HIM? News bulletin: Chuck played on your favorite recordings which enhanced your life (so you'd say) and so you cop an attitude against him because he makes his own choices in his own life.

YOU are the disloyal one, my big fat unintelligent, barely coherent poster-boy for why idiots shouldn't be allowed to procreate.

Sheesh, you're always after him!!! You'd be surprised what he really knows

I agree Bugsy, it seems he's (Chuck) been like that since the beginning and he was comfortable with being the "serious" guy. That's what made STYX special, each of them were so different from each other in personalities. :)

Chuck has always been and IMO will always be an integral part of what Styx is and was. To think that AIDS has hurt him to the extent of being 70% blind is depressing indeed. One of my dearest friends is gay, and without getting politics involved, I can feel for Chuck. I showed my friend some of the recent pictures of Chuck, and he and I agreed that Chuck seemed to be in great shape. Sometimes looks can be deceiving. This is not a DDY vs Larry type of argument. Nor is it a Dem vs Rep type of debate. This is about showing support for a man who contributed to some of the greatest music in the soundtrack of my (and our) life(s). Let's try to seperate ourselves from the bickering for once and show a little solidarity. (Did I say that?.....Yes!)

With the amount of folks hanging around here we are really a lot of different individuals in on something we all have a relation to , with a twist.

That's your choice. Just something to think about: If you offend one person, it may just be them. However, if every person that gives you feedback tells you you're out of line, the problem may lie with you.

I have to disagree with some of my friends on this board. I do not respect your opinion about gays or their "lifestyle choices." I respect that you have the right to it, but I think your views are ignorant and hypocritical. You said you didn't care that he was gay, yet, in previous posts, you ranted about homosexuals wanting to ruin the sanctity of marriage or some load of crap that sounded very similar, then you used a "butt plug" reference - I'm sure a FREAK coincidence that was. You feel strongly (enough to post to a rock bulletin board) that AIDS and other "lifestyle" diseases should be treated with less urgency because their are other, more important diseases out there - for no other reason than many of the people suffering from it didn't have the kind of sex you disapprove of. This not even to mention that the majority of HIV sufferers are HETEROSEXUAL - one has to wonder how much "research" you have done on the subject. You'd like to focus more heavily on the diseases that people, like maybe even yourself, who have done things in their lives that are less than moral, mean, or wrong, but got LUCKY with their consequences have. Let he who is without sin cast the first stone, Onestillearning. Let he who is equal to God judge others.

You think Chuck is receiving special treatment because of his disease? You think he's held a hero because he contracted and is living with it? You're delusional. YOU were called to the carpet because you were "having fun" with someone who is suffering from a terrible disease. I have to wonder, when IS IT acceptable to mock the ill for self-gratification? Is it the same across the board, or is the exception only made for those whose "lifestyles" you disagree with?

Chuck is an inspiration - not because he's gay and not because he has AIDS. He's an inspiration because he's a warm and gentle human being that is choosing to get out there and live his life IN SPITE of the fact that he has AIDS, and is speaking out about his sexuality IN SPITE of people like you who think he is morally deficient. He is a walking example of the power of the human spirit, and my eyes well up when I see him up there playing with the band I grew up with. I hope he has the best damn birthday ever.

FEAR is a destructive emotion. It tells us that we need to protect ourselves from that which we do not understand. You sir, seem to be filled with it. Either that, or you are one FANTASTIC, UNFLAWED individual who simply finds humor in mean-spiritedness, which is a bit of a paradox.

What's even funnier is that this thread was only started to remind anyone who might want to send Chuck a card on his birthday that his webmaster was accepting them. You could have either opted to send one or not to send one. Why you felt the need to espouse all of THAT was nothing short of gratuitous hot air, IMO.

I too, wish you the best, and I will pray for you as well.
