Paul McCartney Rocks Chicago

Postby froy » Wed Oct 19, 2005 10:48 pm

Paul McCartney brought in his show to Chicago yesterday for a 2 night stint. Night one was wonderful. The setlist was rather mixed but there were some dusted off gems
For me Please Please Me was so damm cool that was raw Beatles right in front of me. Hey Jude blew the roof off.
band on The Run did as well.
Helter Skelter was raw and hard edged I loved it.
Great show thats for sure
2 more to go tonight and Milwaukee Sunday.
Love Froy.

I'm glad to hear that you had a good time and it was a GREAT show!!

I LOVE "Band on The Run", one of my favorite songs. Did he do any other Wings songs? I would think he would change the setlist a little bit tonight, right?

Wow, Froy's full of Love :)

saw him last week in Detroit, very good show, double encore, but the ticket price was a bit expensive and the seat was pretty crappy, but I hadn't seen yet and had a chance to before he hits 70. gotta love 'live and let die', very cool pyro's. the guy has enough material to do 3 consecutive shows of all different songs. book out.

Uncle Paul didn't schedule anything near the gulf coast even before Katrina. I was going to see him in Atlanta, but alas didn't work out. I did see his set list from this show, the guy has definately mixed up his shows from the last tour: Magical Mystery Tour opens instead of Hello Goodbye, he does For No One (one of his best), Drive My Car and like Froy mentioned Helter friggin Skelter one of the best rock songs ever written.
Songs I hope he includes in the future: Take it Away, Day Tripper, Juniors Farm and Uncle Albert. Good post Froy.

I'm listening to Paul (McCartney) live right now, totally awesome!!! Totally clear, thank goodness for cell phones!!!

Good Day Sunshine and now Band On The Run - my favorite song by him - LOVE IT!!! UNBELIEVABLE!!

Now Penny Lane is playing.

I totally take back anything negative about the music of the Beatles, just great music, especially live!!!

Now Hey Jude!!

Paul McCartney is one of the best!!!

OOOOOOH, now Live and Let Die!!

Thanks to Froy, you're the best!! Great concert!!!!!

Oh, I forgot - Love, Suite

Suite !!!!!!!

A sliver of the light of good musical taste has chosen to shine on you, at long last ! Paul written music has always been top shelf, at least everything for the 60's and 70's.......I never understood how you could like Wings, and not like at least the MCCartney written/sung Beatles tunes !

Give it little more time and we'll have you grooving to A day in the life, Tomorrow Never Knows, Taxman, and much more from the greatest Rock and Roll Band the world has ever known !

Sadie, your next ! :D

You're right. I was so blown away tonight listening, it came in really clear too and it was great to hear him talking between songs.

Great music :)

I guess I just never really listened to much other music other than STYX and Dennis until I joined this board. A lot of you opened my eyes to some great music and I thank you :)

Classic, why aren't you sleeping, it's late!!!

It is astonishing to me that you can love the music of Styx and not even sort of like the Beatles. There are so many similarities and the influences are so profound!

Sounds like you are coming around, Suite!!:D

While I love nearly all Beatle music, I really like some of the deeper cuts off of Revolver and Help! and Rubber Soul. And, of course, there is Abbey Road! You picked some of my faves, Classic. Great minds!!!!

Okay, let me clear some of this up. It's not that I don't like the Beatles...there are several songs that I enjoy. That being said...I just think they hit at the right time. I myself think they are overrated. But then I can thinkg of several entertainers who are also overrated. So it's not hopeless. At least I'd like to think there is hope for me.

I just hope you are at least greatful for them "hitting at the right time" because they influenced most of the amazing musicians of the last thirty years *including* Styx! :P

I am "grateful" that artists take influence where they can. I do understand that the Beatles were/are influential to a large variety of artists. That I feel they were overrated is a personal opinion. Lord knows there are plenty of artists that I feel are very underrated, but it doesn't change anything. I'm not looking to stir any trouble here.

Peace

Forget the record sales, name one other band that had so many wonderful optimistic songs that transcend over generations, my 5 and 3 years old know all the words to their songs, and believe me I am one parent that does not believe in forcing my music on my kids. They for the most part found this band for themselves. If you want to talk overrated (IMO): Bob Dylan, Madonna, Michael Jackson, The Grateful Dead, and a hell of a lot of rock and roll hall fame inductees belong in that category. The Beatles deserve all the praise and accolades that they have ever received and more. The fact that Paul still absolutely puts on a tremendous show at his age now is truly amazing. I know for a fact that DDY happens to put these guys at the top of his list of infulence.

Yes, you're right he does. He enjoys telling the story when he met Paul. It reminds me about the first time that I met Dennis and how speechless I was back in 1990.

He was also influenced by ELP, Three Dog Night and a few others that I can't remember right now. I'll have to watch the interview again.

Yes Dennis does. And I respect that he and others feel that way. I totally agree with your list of overrated. I'd add a whole lot more to that list.

I agree with you about not pushing your music on your kids. My son has very different taste in music than I do...from Alice in Chains to Pink Floyd to Evanescence...and he's only 8. And of course all the Disney songs. LOL.

I just don't get the influence myself. But hey, I know Sir Paul still entertains at the top of his game. Long may he be able to do so.

Well -- for one, that you can produce music with melody, harmony, intelligent lyrics, and more than 3 chords. Oops... that's more than one! :)
