The production (even for rough mixes) is stunning and the complexities of the song arrangements will give prog fans something to think about.
In relation to your comment - I can see what you are thinking and I haven't yet heard the whole album or proclaimed it as a classic album(and won't...yet!)
What I am saying is the 4 tracks heard ARE stunning and to be frank - this year a lot of my heroes have fallen short. I'm more buzzed about these mere 4 tracks than anything else recently!
Music inspires and I'm inspired by what I hear so far! More thoughts soon. Time for another listen.

Actually, he must really like it since he's changed his avatar to the album cover - as a Toto fan myself, I can't wait for this album!!!

Mindfields was good, better than TAMBU (Three tracks off Tambu really stood out which was Gift of Faith, I Will remember and The road goes on)
Mindfields has an overly nice sound, stand out tracks like Melanie, Mad about you, Caught int he balance and Spanish Steps of Rome (Japanese Bonus Track) some of the other tracks were ok.
Anyway, in general their last killer album was Kingdom of Desire and 13 years later it sounds like theyre gonna give us another album thats so good we'll wear it out!
Cant wait to see if its the holy TOTO grail

Hey Jim,
Agree 100% with you on Mindfields and Tambu.
Mindfield could have been better if not for the pacing problem at the front of the album. ie ballad to start, slow blues number as track 4...
See you tomorrow night Jim? Might have to have a listen to something

Maybe it´s songs like “Africa” or “I´ll be over you” that makes some people think that Toto is just pop group. Truth is much beyond that. But I´m no way disrespecting their pop side as those aforementioned songs are classics on their own way. Andrew is really raising expectations high on new record but let´s wait...

Perhaps this impending release will change all that.

That's just it...Toto has NEVER been about 1 indidivual, or ego-driven lead singer...it's always been about the band....I tell you, I CANNOT wait for the new CD, if Andrew and the Frontiers people weren't such c@ck teases they'd offer us some snippets...lol!!!
So let's see, Star Wars III, a new house, graduating from college, a 62" HDTV....what's left to live for after hearing the new Toto cd???...lol

The good news is that the new Toto album IS as great as Andrew is suggesting. I had the pleasure of hearing some of the final vocals and solos/overdubs being added when I was invited to spend 3 days at Simon Phillip's studio last month. I've been listening to the rough mixes for the last month or so and this album exceeds any expectations that i might have had. Toto have achieved their own highest standards of lasting melodies and first-class musicianship.
It's consistently phenomenal throughout. Some tracks kick serious ass but there are still the great production and slower-paced songs which Toto fans love. Bottom of Your Soul and Spiritual Man, and Luke's A Simple Life are worthy follow ups to any of Toto's biggest hits but they are so much more than radio-friendly ballads.
My personal favourite is Taint Your World which is a Van Halen-esque uptempo song, reminiscent of Hot for Teacher. Luke just smokes all the way through this. Then there's the progressive songs such as Hooked featuring Ian Anderson (Jethro Tull) on flute and the title track, Falling In Between, again with some seriously heavy riffing.
I agree that this is Toto's strongest album in a LONG time. It's certainly not overtly commercial but the big production is there in large portions. Toto have done themselves justice with this one - they've really pushed themselves and have delivered in style.
I LOVE it.

No direction and no stand out vocals. Since 20, they have shown improvement, cover cd sucked though. Hope they can pull off something great. The concerts boots of them have always show they were a good band, no matter what tour, jsut haven't been able to put it into a cd-ERIC

Journey gets the same rep sometimes. Some people only know them as a ballad band.
