Finally! You have cleared up the confusion on my part . I just could not imagine anyone listening to the music made by someone he or she really hated.
As to Dennis onstage, that truly is based on the perspective of the fans in the audience (or watching it on video/DVD). I always thought that intro to Grand Illusion was hilarious. Dennis in full throttle sarcastic mode. But that is just me. The fact that he opens his solo shows with the song is another testament to his humor. "Hey folks," he seems to me to be saying. "Here he is ---the Grand Illusion himself. " Again, that is my interpretation.
I have never thought Dennis DeYoung took himself seriously enough to be considered egotistical.
