Here's my thoughts (cuz I know you were all waiting...)
I think, one way or the other, DDY's new cd will be good. I agree with some past comments that if you like his stuff, you'll probably like the album, and if you don't you won't. It's doubtful to make any sweeping changes... but personal tastes aside, professionally speaking, it's likely to be a good album, and well-put together.
I also think, that regardless of, or even in spite of, the question of will it be the world's greatest prog-rock album (or whatever) ever recorded... well, even if that's true, it just doesn't matter. I'll love it. Some of you will. Many of his fans will. Some concert-goers will. But this CD will be for US. And for him... to prove a point or whatever. It could indeed be great... but we all know radios won't touch it. And without heavy radio support, the likelyhood of a huge smash-hit album is pretty much nothing. This does not in any way detract from quality. I have faith this is gonna be good. I hope I'm right. So it is far from a criticism of anything but the sign of the times when I say I'm not sure what kind of commercial success to expect. But ya know what? If Denis IS doing this for his fans, and for himself... that;s good enough for me. Sounds like the best motivation you can ask for. Me, I hope for at least just enough commercial success that makes him wanna keep doing it. I don't want to see him get the wind knocked out of his sails, ya know?
Those are my thoughts... now just hoping for the best!
