Okay, lemme say I respect and like Chuck. Certainly, nothing against him. And he IS an important part of what Styx was, seubsequently, is.
That said... IF he did not end up contributing to BNW at all, I think it would not be right to credit him as playing on it. That's... well, lying, I think it's called. That doesn't take away from all his past contributions... all the albums he was on, he was credited for. But in a case where you did not do a body of work, it would be wrong to say you did. He could certainly be metioned anywhere in the credits (such as a dedication even, as someone mentioned...) but if he didn't play, they shouldn't have said he did.
HOWEVER... if Chuck remedied this by performing a couple of the songs... I think there's no question that he should get some credit. Did he play in response to getting cut from the credits otherwise? If so, I applaud him for whatever it took for him to do that. But whoever suggested a bass credit of Chuck and Glen in that case probably hit it right on. I work in publishing... and am a big promoter of "credit where credit is due, and not where its not." Not receiving credit for something you did not due does not discount or take away from the things you DID do, for which credit was received.
Like so many of the other issues, my guess is ultimately, it could have been handled better on BOTH sides.
