True, I hope it happens just not in Journey.

This would be a fairly (typically) arrogant analogy were it not for the fact that it's so comically desperate a reach.

Post of the day.

That soul isn't a crucial aspect of a vocalist's gift? There are millions of singers out there who can squawk out the high notes. There's so much more to those 'standards' than that....

Is this an attempt at comedy? You're equating a person's eternal soul to singing with "soul"...so we're are to expect that R Kelly will be singing out front of the choir in heaved in spite of his exploitation of underage girls because he has "soul"?

Come again?

Can't see that happening, he's done touring with Journey. Maybe a one off. I have no doubt he can still emote a song like he always has, but I would rather see Journey carry on with Jeff at this point and have Steve do something solo.
I accept that it won't happen and that JSS is doing a good job standing in...but I can't say I'd rather have the reality of things as they are now, Deb.

Comparing one's gift of eternal life given by God (soul) to the reason (soul) why an idolized singer's sub-par vocals are still better than Augeri/JSS' would be smug (but typical of a loon) if it wasn't just a laughable excuse.
Matthew wrote:NoMoreTails wrote:

Perry has never fallen below these standards, as far as I'm aware. But if he did start performing again and fell short..then yes, I'm sure many of us would excuse him in much the same way as you excuse his replacements, NMT.
Matthew wrote:So are you saying that this "eternal gift" is utterly undetectable, Red? That it can't be sensed or expressed in any way?
Wow...maybe we're getting a little too deep here...

The cult thing, as you're doubtless aware, was flippant but eerily not far off the mark.

Ask yourselves this...all of you.
Did Steve sound bad? Did he sound ok? Did he sound decent or even good?
He sounded live to me. That's all I want. I would take that over any Journey incarnation ever.
Then of course this has to dissolve into a Perry Loon obsession and all that shit.
Matthew, you are plain off the scale stupid.

Sherrie is a spinning Loon
What in THE fuck are you Tards talking about?

But Matt that IS the reality. There is no way Perry would be able to pull off the touring Journey does and sound like he did 20 years ago. I think Perry would be better suited vocally for a solo cd (and/or a few shows) then trying to kill himself vocally touring trying to sound like he did 20 years ago (being the perfectionist he is). As much as I would love to go back to the 80sthe magic of Perry/Schon/Cain was a one time thing I don't think it could be duplicated again now. Red has a point, the expectations from most people would be way too high, and anything less he would be thoroughly trashed for. The man is not stupid he knew when to jump off the merry-go-round.

Quite the opposite...about as shallow an idea as I can think of.
Interesting you're agnostic but compared the soul of perrys singing to the soul of believers anyway. Doesn't that mean you either do believe in the christian interpretation of soul or don't believe perrys vox have it?

Yes, what ARE we thinking, Deono...we've wasted all this time talking about Journey when we COULD have been discussing some girlish fiddle band from Ireland.
Matthew wrote:What is this "soul of the believers" you speak of, Red? And is the "soul" a purely Christian concept? I really don't think it is....
But I take your point that our discussion is now becoming totally absurd.
Red13JoePa wrote:I mean, you said it yourself, I didn't. I'm just trying to figure out how you can disavow it in the human religious definition yet affirm it in the form of a singer's vocals.

Actually...that's a good point, Red. I guess the part I have trouble with is the eternal bit....
