I've actually got the Platinum Records to back up my bona fides.
I started working for them in the 80's and left in the 00's.
Just because JT or Rocco doesn't like me doesn't discount anything I've ever done nor my connection to The Whole that is JOURNEY.

Between my work at Nocturne, then for Neal and his studio and finally Journey reincarnated, I've had my trial by fire.

As for my agenda, that would be simply to correct any blatant inaccuracy, fill in a technical blank or stand in defense of my name.

You are most definitely NOT chopped liver! From your lips to our ears, for over ten years ( I used to be on the AOL board :D ). Hey! I think that could be your slogan! :)

LOL! I'm just a big music fan. Scored 4 front row center tics for Mellencamp on the Whenever We Wanted Tour in '92. Took 2 of my kids who were 9 & 7 at the time, both were fans because of mom and me. John kept giving my son high 5's all night, I think because my son was singing all the words. Anyway, we get to R.O.C.K in the U.S.A. at the end of the show, and if you've ever seen John, he usually pulls someone onstage at the end to sing along. THAT WAS ME on this night. During a break in the lyrics he leans down and grabs my hand and says "get up here". I climbed up on stage and during that repeating chorus at the end, John hands me the mic and walks away. I'm left singing "ROCK in the USA" about 10 times with the background girls. Finally John comes back and puts his arm around me while I keep singing, and then John leans in and does the "Yeah Yeah" part a couple of times. He grabs the mic back, shakes my hand and kicks me back down to my seat.

All I could say to my wife and friends who were there and witnessed it was, "Thank God for those 6 or 8 Bud Lights I'd had." I was scared shitless. Could hardly move, and the fucking lights are blinding. Could hardly focus on the audience at all.

Was a thrill.

What an experience! :D My only performances have been lipping to "Be My Baby" on a cruise (won the prize) and one line of "Wheel in the Sky" at a Journey convention.

Let's put it this way - Simon Cowell would NOT send me to Hollywood!

Well said, because with this band...credible information has a half life of about 10 days. So really, by the time it filters from the source through to people who have the inside track...the 'info' is already changed, undermined, whatever.

LOL

That's a VERY valid point. It applies all over to this crazy ass business.
I've run an exclusive news story one day, only to have to retract it and look like an ass the very NEXT day - all because the members changed their minds over night!

Gotta be a story in all this...

Thats gotta piss you off man. Im sure it's not different in any other 'journalistic' line of work...it just seems that people are tremendously emotionally invested in something like Journey, so it makes it worse.

Well, to be honest, I've made a gentleman's agreement with SP, SS and RV to not do that. They alone know what that is.
I've been seen pouring NS into his room, paying off Strip Club Bouncers and Tarts from his transgressions, that's just kinda part of the job, so there's no denying any of that.
JC is the only one who I completely misread. Oh Well, whatchagonna do? So did Rindell and Herbie. I'm in good company.

There really isn't anything, aside from the personal areas most reasonable people agree would be inappropriate for public discourse, that hasn't been discussed already.
The book that needs to be written is Herbie's.

While I understand people's interest in my POV, it will always colored (tainted) with the curse of familiarity. Emperor's Clothes and all of that.
That Latin quote previously in my sig was the earliest reference I could find of "Familiarity breeds contempt."
I'm sure everyone has someone in their life who was once a "good friend", who is now for one reason or another or none, is no longer in that same role, or may even be on the opposite polarity of friendship. Not the opposite state of mind, just the other way personal involvement manifests itself. Love and hate are the same emotional state of being. Disinterest or apathy is the opposite form .
I see now how I was played to give JT what he needed to axe me. The era i was in had passed, and I was like the last soldier left from the previous Don's group. I had to go. A least it wasn't REALLY Soprano style, it just played like that....no one returns your phone calls despite any previouly made plans, can't find anyone, then, they want to have a meeting out back. 8) 8)

Amongst all the feelings and emotions present in this conflicted state is disappointment. Not the least in myself, lest anyone think I'm not aware of when that might have been. Oh well. I had a good run, complete with "one mo tam", that no one will replicate. Again. There will be no more working one's way up the ladder, from worker bee to royal inner circle ( to mix metaphors) in "The Music Business"anymore. That business model is antique, and in the same company today (Nocturne) the chance of getting to hang with "the Star(s)" to the extent I was able to, is nonexistant.
That was really then*. but...I digress....
I've chosen to not live with anymore of that negative part of my relationship with them. Why bother? I've paid the bills they stuck me with long ago.
I join a long and much honored list of ex-employees to be stuck with unpaid bills on the way out.
It's a lot like having a little finger missing in Japan, you messed up for the Yakuza boss, but you're STILL ALIVE !!!
As I've said elsewhere and often, they are no longer the last group i've worked for, nor are they necessarily the "coolest".
I enjoyed (nearly  ) every minute and would only underscore Keith Richrd's advice to himself, to them.

Finally,

I'm reminded of something I've learned since then.....BIG TIME...

Definintion: INSANITY , Repeating the same action and expecting a different result. 8)

That's why I'm really happy doing something else.

At last. :)

Lonesome Jubliee Tour. Saw that in Fort Wayne. John fucked up the words to Check it Out and restarted the song. Never seen any band do that.

Depends on the calibur and integrity of the band. And what a really cool story and memory for you.

Holy shit, that's pretty deep. At the risk of sounding like an asshole with his head stuck in the dirt for 100 years, what were your roles in the band, Allen? Roadie? Bouncer? A Manager of some sorts? Guitar tech? All of the above?

I don't post too much but, I browse fairly often and I find it fascinating to read about people's experiences with these people over the years. Even more, how the environment and people have continued to "de-volve". If you hang around these forums long enough you can pretty well put together a fairly accurate version of the truth.

For example, as far as Journey is concerned, pretty much all of these guys were (are) jerks of some form or another but, they are not necessarily bad human beings. No, they are not the types of people that we would like to hang out with but, these aren't generally diabolical people. SS seems like a genuine "nice guy" and so does RV. Except RV is just thankful to have a job so he goes along with what he is told. DC too and now AP, I assume. These guys are paid employees. I used to think that NS was a fairly decent guy, not terribly smart or moral but, decent. I now have a very different view. People always say they misread JC. I don't know. I always thought that he was a metrosexual prick. I thought the same of SP but, now that he has been logistically removed from the band for so long, he seems like someone you could have wings and beer with and share a few fish stories.

I started as a small black child..... no wait... I started back in 1984 on the tech bench for Nocturne, toured doing guitars for JC when he produced that Bolton record and they opened for Heart.
Re-built Neal's studio, recorded a couple of records, built some guitar rigs, tackled some a$$holes at the Hard Rock, so I guess bouncer does apply.

All of the above, from the ground up. 1984 through 2002 with hiatus from 1989 to 1993.

They generally keep quiet about the fact, for a couple of reasons. Firstly, the information may be private and intended to be kept that way, and secondly it usually results in severe interrogation by other members here, or blatant denial, or argument. The facts then get lost in wave after wave of re-interpretation and further speculation. I can’t believe anybody who really cares about the band members etc (as people instead of idols) would want to be responsible for the free for all that ensues.

Of the people who do claim to have inside information, some are clearly making it up and speculating wildly, hoping that somebody else will rebut their claim and inadvertently let slip the real truth. Some may have a little knowledge but try to be careful in what they reveal for the reasons explained above. And some simply cannot contain themselves.

I agree it is difficult to know who does know things and who doesn’t, especially with contradictory ‘inside’ facts.

I don’t think anybody has complete ‘inside’ knowledge. Even if they directly know a band member well, it is unlikely they will be privy to all the goings on, and their knowledge is likely to be biased towards the person they know. Therefore any comments they make here should be read in that context.

Marty

very well stated and put Marty.
I have to agree with your statement.
I think that it takes alot to maintain the confidence that someone has bestowed on a person when they tell them something about the band.
I am sure everyone has people that they trust and know they can count on to tell them the truth.
I also think that it is unfortunate that on the internet as a whole at least in my experience, people seem to
enjoy "knowing" certain things or people and information and tend to use it to have something others do not have and use it and people to their advantage. I am sure that people that run some of the sites or related sites for the band members/band etc get tons of email daily from people looking for a way to "use" these people or get information and that is just sad. They tend to be wary and lump everyone in that catagory because of the actions of a few.
I also think on the internet there are alot of people that claim that they know certain things or certain people and have information that they do not have just to look special and important. They think it makes them better or better fans etc.
I learned thehard way over the years who to trust and who not to. I do not know any of the band members or employees personally and I have never claimed to.
i have never stated a band member or employee told me anything.
i have been told things or heard or read things by other people however
i do no feel
i have the right to break their confidence by telling all the details or whatever I was told just to say
i have or know something.
I think if someone really does know them or their employees or whatever that is their business and if they are given information I think maintaining a confidence is more important. If we are meant to know as the public we will.
I have seen many people on the internet claim that they "know" or are "in the know" about the band or certain members and most times their information is not accurate and they use the situation to their advantage to look more special and to take advantage of and control and be mean to other people. Therefore I do not trust anything unless it is posted in an official capactiy on an official website. I do not believe the band members etc are calling any average fan and giving them private information and information about their career.
I read things and take it all in and then decide for myself what I believe or not.
I think people need to decide for themselves and take things with a grain of salt considering everything you read on the internet is not necessarrily the truth.

LOL. No, not possible.

Would you have anything positive to say about a guy that roles into your town, fucks you 13 year old daughter and gives your wife crabs all at the same time while shitting in your toilet's upper tank? All of the above are well within Mr Toomey's well-documented capabilities....The guy is evil incarnate.

For those that wonder why Journey's bad karma and bullshit extend beyond the players...look no further than ole JT. You put him in the same room with cunts like A$$off and Barruck....and you've got three people that could start WWIII.

Not much on the web regarding this "JT" but I found a paragraph from an old Journey website called Journey Zone.

Having been asked by Journey’s road manager, John “J.T.” Toomey, to return my camera to my car, I went backstage after the show to talk with him and say “hi” to the band. I nudged JT and said, "By the way, did you notice? All these folks backstage have cameras. Can I go get mine too?" He said, "Uh, these are all personal friends of the band." I said, "Oh, okay...." then Ross happened to pass by me at that moment, so I yelled, "Hey Ross!" He turned around and I said, "Melva June wanted me to say hello to you..." Ross stopped, turned around and said, "You mean Melva June CHALFANT?" I said, "Yeah!" He smiled and said, "Cool! Tell her I said hi right back." That’s when I turned and smiled sweetly at JT. "Personal friends," indeed.

With that, he announced that the band had to get on the bus, and in a flash, they were gone and I was on my way to the car.

One minute he is running up to you after a show to give you a hug and say thanks for coming to the show and the next minute he is kind of moody and can;t be bothered to talk to you.
Kind of hard to read his real feelings.

Guffaw!!!
To be most clear, I had a straight face until the "toilet's upper tank" part then really cracked up.

[quote="MartyMoffatt"]IMO there are probably quite a few people here do who have ‘inside’ knowledge of fragments of the truth, through contacts, friendships or personal situations.

===========================================================================

Kudos and admiration and credit to those who really do know someone or something and have kept it to themselves and kept a confidence and not used it to their own benefit, advantage or to make themselves look more special or better fan.
I agree with Marty.
I truely think and feel that whether someone knows a band mamber (past or present) personally, an employee or
ran into one of them in the airport, bathroom, or whatever, I do not think they are being told personal or professional or
career information. that just does not happen. I think people need to consider that
whenever they read or hear something on the internet that does not come from an official capacity or site. I think if people are posting on the internet or related sites/forums for the band/members etc and claiming that they know this or that etc, it should be taken with a grain of salt, as it is most likely not the case that the information came from the said bandmember. I think at least in my experience on the internet and some of the band/member related sites and forums, one can be almost postitve that the information did not come from the said person/band member past or present and is not only not true, the person claiming to know someone or something is, as Marty stated, making it up or it is bs. I also think people claim to know things to look important, special and to take advantage of others. That is really sad and it is very easy to be drawn and sucked into a situation unknowingly by someone claiming to know someone or something, because a person likes the music or admires a band member past or present. I think people have to be careful on the internet especially and be wary of people claiming to know this or that band member past or present or info etc. In the majority of the cases on the internet and on related sites and forums, I do not think anyone truely knows the person or information they are claiming to know and if they try to tell you they do, it is just bs and not true.
We would all love to be close to or be able to say we know a band member or artist, however in most cases it is not
that way. The people that truely do, I am sure are keeping a confidence and keeping it to themselves.
If we are meant to know we will be given the information in an official capacity. Not everything posted on the internet is necasarilly the truth.

You're right, his info is, as you said, spot on.
