"Core Journey songwriting team of Schon/Cain" (barf emoticon).
At least Arnel did mention Steve.

why would they mention steve perry in a press release about the current members.
that might be the stupidist thing a perry loon has said in this place.

I don't know why, but this just screams extreme ego to me. No colaborating with the lead singer (who is the one who's going to sing the songs)? I think I understand a little better.................because I just can't see them handing the 11 over to JSS.........here, do what you're told, sing these. God bless him, I sure hope Arnel's got somebody looking out for his interests.

I don't believe that Journey/Azoff would do an exclusive for 500k pieces, but, who knows; they've done dumber things, right?. When you have an exclusive, there is give and take on both sides, creating risk for both. Journey has risk by having only one retailer sell their goods, while Wal-Mart has risk of taking on 1 million pieces/3-packs.
Another part of the equation is how much advertising does Wal-Mart get from Journey while the band is on tour this summer? Does this mean that the new package doesn't get sold at the concerts this summer?

Not ego, just situation. They wrote most of the album while without a singer. But the statement does make it sound like Arnel had input on how he sang things...which is appropriate. Interesting though that most of Arrival was also written without a lead singer. And Generations came about BECAUSE the lead singer wanted to record new material. Weird pattern...

jrnyman28 wrote:"Very typical since 1998"? Makes sense since that was when Perry left. They have given plenty of accolades to Perry (they have also said some really unpleasant things in interviews) but the fact is that if the band is trying to move forward than the focus needs to be on that present and future, not on the past. Journey has not shied away from their past and they are certainly currently acknowledging it by revisiting it in sound and substance. They don't need to mention Perry all the time because everyone is aware of Perry's role in Journey....

Of course, we--the hardcore-- who take the time to visit SP and/or Journey boards know the significance of the man. It's the others--both casual and general music fans--who might not be. They just wouldn't have that emotional connection. But then these are the very people Journey are catering to now, aren't they? Sure, they say they are going back to what made them famous. But where is SP's standing as the chief architect of this "legacy sound"? Nowhere, it would seem by the press releases.

Yeah: The band has been 'using' Perry all these years but they are not allowed to NOT mention him.

You bitched about them passing over homaging his name in press releases!!

If thats the case, he better get some sort of writing credit for that, and whatever else he contributed to the song's beginning.
Yes, the song will appear on the record as Schon/Cain/Hunsicker.
