Used to be on YouTube. Some people on this forum may have the audio of it.

He sounds flat to me a lot. I hate when he adds that fucked up scream on the end of SW.

That's a note not a scream, and there aren't too many people that could even come close to hitting it.

Listen to the Ellen version of Faithfully recorded after SW. It's unbelievably good.

Bigger issue is, even on the re-record samples, Arnel doesn't hit the rockers well. He nails ballads, but the rockers not so much. Even more important, however, is his stage presence. He really doesn't know what to do with himself when he's not singing. Comes off very awkward, more than a little distracting and for me, it's painful to watch. I hope he can work that out in time.
I'm looking forward to the CD where I can listen to Arnel, but not be distracted by an awkward visual performance.

No, it's not. Arnel sounds almost like he's unsure of the song's phrasing...sounds like someone singing karaoke.
If either this or the SW performance was an audition, I'd pass.
He is not a bad singer, and I am not bashing him at all...but the Ellen show performances did nothing to impress me.

I don't agree. I think he made changes to the phrasing consciously. The guy's been singing Faithfully since it came out. He's got no problem with knowing how it goes. I think years of singing the tune has made him put his own spin on it. All Journey singers have done that (sung the songs for a while, then changed their approach as the years rolled on).
Explain the Karaoke comment to me. I've heard that used a lot (american idol, etc.). What does that comment even mean? Not doggin' ya, I'm really curious.

I don't hear him taking liberties, I hear him stammering...just my opinion. I did not like it at all. The end, when he did the "forever yours" high notes, he sounded good. But during the song itself, he sounded very unsure of himself.Explain the Karaoke comment to me. I've heard that used a lot (american idol, etc.). What does that comment even mean? Sounded like someone singing the song in a bar to a tape...amateur...sounded like someone with a LOT of potential to be very good falling short...

That sounds more like at dig at the band rather than the singer

I keep hearing peeps say that about the rockers... I don't hear that. Only the Young was amazing on the re-records and live. Not sure where you're getting that...? His stage presence is SO much better than Augeri's. Augeri (who I like a lot) looked like a woman. Arnel looks like he's having fun. I think that it may be a bit awkward, but in a "I'm having a blast" kind of way. I like the innocence of the guy. Clubs are a lot different than TV or theatres. I liked his presence in Chile.

How so?
Just joshing you but as always the wonderful world of Journey continues to divide opinions like no other. I thought Arnel did great on Ellen and thats based purely on crappy YouTube clips.

Depends. I think he peaked on the 2002 Under-the-Radar tour, everything subsequent to that was a letdown. I think as his voice eventually crapped out, so too did his on-stage panache.

I can think of more on TBF, Arrival, Red 13, and Generations than any other album since Perry joined.

I'm impressed for the first time.
EDIT: Anyone notice the Tapegate-esque microphone Deen was wearing?

I didn't hear him stammering, but I did hear a nervous overcompensating use of vibrato. He has a good vibrato and when he's nervous, he appears to fall into that comfort zone and can over use it in places.
