Jeremey,
I can tell you that, after almost 18 years in the military,
13 deployments (anywhere from 3-6 month stretches) to the
Middle East and a one-year remote to Korea, NO AMOUNT OF $$$
can replace the time lost from my family. Heck, by the time my youngest is
2 yo, I will have missed 11 months of her life because I am going right
back to Iraq in January... It just isn't worth it.
I can DEFINITELY understand your reasoning...
Good Luck with this endeavor.

Damn Carl when does your commitment expire?
I couldn't imagine leaving my 16 month old for much more than a day at a time.
I don't know how you guys and girls deal with the heartache?

Yepper Depper!

If I stay in the unit I am in right now,
I will be right back in Iraq at the beginning of January.
It really starts to wear on you after all these years.
Put it this way:
3 days after my honeymoon in '96, I deployed
to Saudi Arabia for 4 months. Actually arrived at
Khobar Towers one week after the bombing. If our unit
wasn't delayed a week due to airlift, we would've been
in one of the buildings that sustained most of the damage.
8 or 9 folks from Eglin AFB, whom we were replacing, died
in that blast; pretty scary.

I was sent on a 45-day TDY one week after my frist daughter was born.
By the time Bella was 4, I had spent one year in Korea, 6 months in Iraq
and been on numerous 2-3 week TDYs across the country.
She turns 8 this Sunday and I have missed 4 Thanksgivings/Christmas holidays
with her and have been able to take her trick-or-treating 3 times...

My youngest, Abby, was 2 months old when I left last August for this most recent trip.
In November, I will be deployed to a state-side base for 30-days of pre-Iraq training.
I will probably be getting ready to come home from Iraq when she turns 2 next May 24th.

Jeremey DEFINITELY has his priorities straight.
He coulda banked millions from Journey but
he still couldn't "buy back all that time lost."

I hit my 20-year mark on October 1st, 2010.
If I choose to retire, I will be 40 yo...
Depending on where I am stationed and what I am
doing, I don't if I will retire then or stick around longer.
Whether or not I am deploying constantly will play a MAJOR factor
in my decision.

A few things cross my mind as I read your rescent post' here. I have several family members who have served and are serving..I appreciate what you do for us.

Even though some people might say..so what..it's your choice..no one forced you.. I get it.

After reading what you have written..and with what I have been going through lately..it makes me even more so want to be how I have always felt..appreciate what you have..don't bitch about what you don't..enjoy the small things..don't bitch about every darn little things..especially that which you can't control..don't argue with people about every little frickin' thing..

Anyway..KUDOS to you.. 8)

I got to thinking...

...was it not possible, in any way then, that Jeremey perhaps could've gotten his own tour bus for his wife and kid to come along on tour with him on? That way he couldn't miss out on much and always have his beloved at his side.

It's not bashing at all.. it's a very realistic statement.

Why do you always have to worship Schon and Cain whilst downgrading accomplishments of other members, and throw around numbers like magic argument-winning pixie dust?

Come on, Prog.
Do you really think negotiations ever got that far?
And do you really think that Jeremey, sitting in
a room with a bunch of lawyers and the Legendary
Schon and Cain, would've even had the gumption
to say, "Hey, I know I'm the FNG here but...
any chance I can get my OWN bus with a play-pen,
and a 9-months supply of diapers?
"

I am SHOCKED no one else has picked up on this little
tidbit from Jeremey concerning the tour that was in the works
when he was in negotiations with the band...

Jeremey wrote:...the tour being discussed at the time was a 9 month endeavor starting in Feb 08 and ending in November with Carlos Santana.

Anyone know if this is actually going to happen?!?!?!

Kids need to be raised in a stable, loving home. Consistency is the most important component of this. You couldn't get that living in different hotel rooms, on the road all the time.

Ahem, I do believe a previous lead singer of Journey's tried that very thing with a significant other. It went over with the guys like a lead balloon. I think the story was in "Behind the Music".
