Change your shift, if possible!! It's going to be the last Midwest show until the next year
If the weather will cooperate, it's going to be a GREAT show![]()
I'll be in Rockford on Sunday

I tried the best I could today, but can not get off work, the fact that it is a Friday night, no one wants to fill in. If it was during the middle of the week it would of been no problem. I did catch his show in Chicago Ridge last month, so that will have to do.

Damn good concert wasn't it? I was mesmerized when he did "Castle Walls" and Tommy D's guitar solo at the end of "Desert Moon" (including playing the guitar behind his head lol) was worth the price of admission alone. Excluding the "Dreams" Speech and DDY talking about his long marriage, you'd be missing a great show, ChicagoStyx, if you didn't go![]()

I work less than a mile away and I have been offered free tickets to the sponsor’s tent (free food & free booze)!!! I have also been offered the same deal for the next night to see the Doobie Brothers. I know I’m going on Saturday but Friday (DDY) not so sure. I have no desire to hear about his 200 year marriage and the “follow your dreams” speech for the 100th time.
For me it would be worth going just to meet some of you guys!!! :D

So I take it you don't go hear Tommy say "who is buyin'" or JY ask if "you are ready for Miss America" either, right?

Castle Walls is so good live. And yes, Tommy's extended Desert Moon solo is awesome. Very tasteful. Tommy might not shred like a Lukather or a Petrucci, but he's got FEEL. I wish I could get a soundboard recording of that entire live rendition of DM. I think there's one shitty video of it on YouTube. Audio's so bad it's not even worth watching.
DDY said the album would be out next year ...

StyxCollector wrote:I did. It was a good show, although there were some sound problems with the drums for the first few songs, and the mix was off a little all night (a bit too much bass even for this bass player). Those didn't impact the show though. This was the first time I saw DDY with Jimmy Lahey and Tom Sharp. There were a few musical screw ups (Tommy D. I think pulled his guitar chord in the middle of a solo when he strayed to the center ... kinda funny; I think I was one of the few who could tell).)

Thanks for the review, Allan. Dennis really does seem to be playing at the top of his game nowadays.
(ETA: I agree about those top 3. I would substitute NY Beacon Theater, mainly because I saw that one and didn't see the Rosemont show.)

Ehwmatt wrote:Jimmy definitely does make a huge difference in sound. The band sounds downright heavy with his addition. The few spots he gets to play are great too, like in 100 years. The Styx songs really shine with the addition of the 2nd guitar back into the mix.

Matt, wasn't it you that was looking for a Desert Moon video?

Yep, and you hooked me up with the DDYTalk link and now this video. Much thanks for both
