Styx/REO/Night Ranger tour appears to be set

from Artemis's blog - usually bang on with his info

Classic rockers rejoice
Styx/REO/Night Ranger is a go and will draw well. 15 dates currently scheduled with an option for more if it does well, which it absolutely will.

The Big News
I am able to 100% confirm that KISS will be launching their next world tour in...Canada. Halifax is said to be the launch site. Dates in Quebec City, Toronto, Edmonton, etc. will follow suit. Still hearing June 24 as a launch date. The tour will be in support of their upcomign album which will be released on KISS Records, and available through an as-yet-unamed big box retailer.

Lita Keeps Trying
Lita Ford is said to be trying very, very hard to get on the Judas Priest and Heaven & Hell package bills, but may have been denied. She's been approached about a two-week run of Europe including festivals. I personally believe we'll see her this summer in the U.S. (Whitesnake/Lita Ford would draw well in theaters and casinos).

Somebody Call A Doctor...
Cinderella's people have recently contacted House Of Blues Concerts and a few casinos about doing some dates. Run would launch in the South/Southwest. All of this hinders on Tom Keifer's Nashville physician and an additional specialist giving him the all-clear to tour. Don't expect them to be on the road longer than 6 weeks if this happens.

CrueFest In Doubt
Despite lagging ticket sales for their current U.S. tour, CrueFest 2 is a go. But unless it fares better than the first one, LiveNation are pulling the plug. Rumors have begun to swirl that Motley are planning another studio album for 2011 and CrueFest will be reactivated at that time.

Priest Feast is a go
Priest are bringing the Priest Feast to 20 North American venues this summer. Routing will mimic that of the Metal Masters Tour.

That's all I got for now...

Veteran rockers Night Ranger [ tickets ] are getting ready to release their first studio album in a decade and have launched a world tour to support it.

The band, which is currently in Japan, will return to North America in time to kick off its spring and summer jaunt May 11 in Oklahoma City, OK. The primarily US tour includes a June 14 stop in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and an Aug. 9 gig in Windsor, Ontario. On select shows, Night Ranger will team with REO Speedwagon; Foreigner; Styx and Boston; and Cinderella and Warrant. So far, Night Ranger's schedule shows a steady string of dates through late August, with one-off gigs in September and October. Confirmed shows are listed below, and more performances are expected, according to a press release.

Night Ranger--which comprises original members Jack Blades (bass/vocals), Kelly Keagy (drums/vocals) and Brad Gillis (guitarist), along with guitarist Joel Hoekstra and keyboardist Christian Cullen--is commemorating its 25th anniversary with the July 1 US release of "Hole in the Sun." The self-produced set--Night Ranger's eighth studio album and first for VH1 Classic Records--is said to capture the vintage spirit of the '80s rockers.

"We wanted to sound new, but still keep our roots," Keagy said in a statement. "We grew up in the '70s, when pop music was really starting to thrive. Sometimes it drove you crazy because the songs were so poppy that you couldn't get them out of your head, but they were still amazing songs. We wanted to portray some of that on this album."

A couple of tracks from "Hole in the Sun" are streaming at Night Ranger's MySpace page.

The band has been supporting the new album with tour dates all over the world in the past few months, including a stop at Cuba's Guantanamo Bay to perform for US military personnel.

"Going to Guantanamo Bay Cuba to play for the troops is right up there as one of the wildest things Night Ranger has ever done," Blades said in a press release. "We've been all over the world, but never have we sung '(You Can Still) Rock in America' in a Communist country with armed Cubans watching us in guard towers just a few clicks away."

Night Ranger reached rock stardom with the 1982 release of its debut album, "Dawn Patrol," which spawned hits including "Don't Tell Me You Love Me" and "Sing Me Away." The following year's "Midnight Madness" garnered even more success with radio hits "Sister Christian" and "(You Can Still) Rock in America."

Well I don't care who I see Night Ranger with, because they are one of the few still on my list (however with REO and Styx would be heavenly). However, I heard REO confirmed a Styx/REO/.38 Special tour, would this be in addition or instead.

I hope Lita finds something. I saw her this past summer in one of her "secret" warm-up shows, and she sounded GREAT!

And KISS, I am so ready to load up my love gun!!

Finally, not sure if it was intentional or not, but those dates above seem to be 2008 dates!

Fucking REO. Ugh. Can't Styx find anyone else?

The only reason I'd go is the possibility of a quasi-DY reunion/songs being played.

We got confirmation of the Styx/REO/ 38 Special tour as well, so who knows, guess the dates aren't confirmed yet. I'm a little REO'd out too but I always like their music, I'll take them any day over Def Leppard.

Could this article be old?

I picked up Night Ranger's new album last summer. And to be honest, it is not very good.

I wondered the same thing. Night Ranger played Pgh 8-30 last year, Rib Fest at Heinz Field, it was a free show.

I liked the new album from last year, it didn't really "feel" like Night Ranger but I liked it then and still play it now. But then again I'm a casual NR fan so what do I know.

NO DOUBT. REO blows. WHY do they keep going with them? Night Ranger'd be fun, but REO? Looks like another tour where I'll be sitting out.

Note to Styx- To make your shows more interesting to the diehards, PLEASE release some NEW music. I have no desire to see Miss America and Blue Collar Man played again and again and again.

Starting to get really annoyed with one of my favorite bands.
NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.

From your keyboards to God's ears!

Oh, holy, bloody hell, can't REO get on someone else's bill, or is Tommy a bit too charitable towards them for comfort??? I don't think REO has been on the bills for this many years because of their "draw" power, if ya ask me. My sister came to one of the REO/Styx shows with us and actually said, "I have to go wait outside because, if I listen to that singer yap anymore, I'm going to strangle him!"

And, what makes Night Ranger think that HITS (absolutely NO pun intended there!) is "capturing the vintage spirit of the '80s rockers"??? I played that thing (after it was released in Europe last year -- the US release was delayed until this year), once or twice then shelved it and haven't looked back since. Hell, Kelly Keagy's recent solo album sounds more like NR than the new NR album does! :x

I'm sorry to say that if REO does tour with them, I'm probably going to sit this tour out again. With 3 bands on board, we'd get the same hits again (Journey's term "dirty dozen" applies here as well) and I won't even get to look at Jeff Watson to help distract me, while NR plays those sucky new songs from the album. :P (I missed Heart last year because I'm not a big fan of Cheap Trick and I refuse to fund Journey ever again until they get their heads out of their asses. )

Yeah... I'm a bit cranky today (feeling a cold coming on), so I've got an excuse to be bitchy. Besides, REO deserves it.

Night Rangers new album

Postby cittadeeno23 » Sat Jan 10, 2009 9:59 am

I guess we all have different taste.
I got this album last summer too, and I love it. And I don't own ANY other Night Ranger CD's.
I also saw them in the summer of 2007 for free and they were very good live, I thought.
Jack does love to talk, though. But at least he was funny.
