I see this as a trend I do not like. More and more artist will get a way from the cd. I mean more and more music and movies are being downloaded. MP 3 player can play movies now. Kids love it. So artist will keep putting things up for download and skip the disk. Kids don't seem to care how they sound either. But most compressed music and movies do not look or sound as good as a cd or dvd. And it doesn't have to. Picture doesn't have to look great on a 3 inch screen. And those little ear buds are not a good quality head set or a home theater system.
Me I want the hard copy with the best sound and picture possible. But even Blue ray to me is over kill. More ways the companies try and get people to buy their older stuff in a high format, please!
OK I am off my soap box, i am glad to see artist putting out new stuff even if it just on music services. Cost them less money and wwe can get it cheaper.

Yes they share vocals, and there is also a trade-off of guitar solos which is pretty cool.
Agreed on the whole Mp3 movement thing. To add to what you said, Kid's not only don't care about sound quality anymore, they also don't care about WHOLE albums anymore. It's all about just buying the single and maybe a few other songs off of an album. This is grossly unfair to the artist because they put the effort into making the song and it gets completely ignored. This is probably why Styx won't come out with a new album, because with the exception of a few songs it will be overlooked and not make them much money.
I've always belived the sum of an album is greater than just the individual songs [I also prefer the sound of Vinyl to modern tech.] but it seems like we're going back into the fifties where it's all about the single. Funny, new technology is making us regress!
Abitaman wrote:Agreed on all but the sound of vinyl. Sounds good the first listen or two. But I like the sound of cds. The problem is the tech. used to record. They use the same equipment with the same type of setings making all the music sound the same. They need to go back to the old way of recording and put that on cd.

Well, not quite. It's recorded, mixed, and arguably mastered as if it was going to CD, but instead of releasing it on a physical, they're converting it to a lossy MP3. So a better version exists. We may never hear it or get access to it.

The world got tired of being raped for $16 when there was only one good song on the CD. And THAT is why "illegal" downloading took hold and made music (essentially) free. I think it is a shame that people miss out on some great "albums" but I am not surprised at all. Keep the faith though, there are some great artists making "albums" and their fans "get it". All is not lost... However, in general, I think it makes more sense nowadays to release a single track every few weeks or so than it does an entire album. If groups/artists think one song at a time than the quality of each 'product' may just increase. And there is no reason why "we" cannot collect each individual song and then make a full "album".

I still do buy entire albums -- some online and some CD's -- but only rarely anymore.
