:?
Ahh, that is the question. Just exactly what does Arnel's (real) voice sound like? He's spent so many years mimicking other singers, it will be interesting to hear Arnel Pineda do Arnel Pineda.

So this is how a porn star feels getting double penetration every night.

I really liked that, although I wished I could hear him just once attempt the end. I think it'd have to be the very last song though because he'd fall over and collapse.

Losing some range...but I like what I'm hearing. One thing perrys voice had that none of the others did was the emotion and feeling on record. Arnel does a fine job, don't get me wrong...but I never felt it like Perry. Perhaps on the next record, based on what I'm hearing...they'll push more of this.

He sounds a bit nervous--especially on WCTNGOF. Not the easiest song to sing, and he may have been trying too hard instead of just letting it flow naturally. You don't get the soul until you just start singing--trying to sing kills it immediately. I just hope they keep it in the setlist long enough to get to Greensboro next Friday, as he might just nail it with a bit of practice and relaxing. The audience seemed to like it, so that is a good sign--and it certainly ends the concert better than the extended LTS jam. I wasn't planning to go to the Greensboro show, but they have mixed the setlist up a bit so it's not just a Greatest Hits set. Now, just a request for One More....

ANYTHING is better than an extended version of an already terrible song. ><

Yep...he was this way his first time on some songs like Send her my love. I think some more practice and he'd nail it just like When you love a woman.

Arnel just needs to work on the rhythm and feeling the beat, and letting it flow naturally. His voice really is great, he doesn't have to sing so hard.

WCTNGOF always sounded like a sequel to Faithfully. A little odd synced up with Patiently.

By the way, here is their other singer performing the latter.

Wow, who would have thought mixing Patiently and WCTNGOF? The haters won't ruin it for me. That was awesome to hear that song finally in a live setting.

I don't think that was directed at anyone in this thread....so far. Critiquing and hate are two different things. I think it was a worthy effort and I enjoyed it, while not perfect. They need to practice and bring these out more.

This could have been a one off, done specifically as a thank you to Arnel. Mixing the songs together like that, was not what I was expecting when I first heard the news about these performances.

If we fixed everything, why even keep the place open? It would be just like some other place where the sun never sets and pink ponies roam free. Who needs another one of those?

Well, sorry to have to do this but for my money, (which it was), this is the best Performance I've ever seen by Arnel, even better than what we're all discussing this evening.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sxcFXOr7UKQ

Listen to this and compare it to this year's tour and you will know instantly what a difference stepping down makes. That was at the end of the tour when he was burnt out but damn, it sounds good.

Okay, that's my one semi-hater comment, We can continue now.

IMO...SP stills owns these songs and still untouchable by any other, Deen is the next best thing doing it... Arnel did a fine job but as in many other instances trying to please the audience ( especially the loons , :) :) ) he is getting a bit nervous. I guess that is the pitfall of being the frontman that everybody is expecting him to be. After all, his being there was built around the publicity that he sounds like Steve Perry.

Arnel should let it rip and let his natural voice and passion for singing flows. He's got a very wonderful pipes that any other singer would be wishing they have.

Lig was right, in due time when he becomes comfortable singing those songs, he will nail it ..perfectly.

I give him props for taking these songs head on..again ..he did well and he can be better. ( I still give SP the BEST )

Feliz cumpleaños Senor Arnel..muy bien.

Yes. The clear audio actually illustrates my point. For the record, you can use a DAT recorder to get that type of clear audio, then drop it into the video later on. Musicians used to love them for their fidelity back in the day.

peckpeckpoo is obviously a Filipino or pretending to be one (the user name gives us that info) trying to make a few bucks off of the Arnel gravytrain. Maybe Lock N Load needs to be given his email address to to try and uncover if he's someone on the crew abusing their position of trust.

He's got chaptered DVDs with artwork and all for sale. I got the info and sent him back a polite "no thanks". The Manila DVD is just around the corner and I'd rather pay money for it than for a boot.

You're out of your fucking mind. "Left alone"? For what? Neal has to suppress stuff he also contributed to the band because Perry has decided to sit on the sidelines and pout since the ROR tour? Absurd. I didn't care that Nostrildamus played Journey songs on the FTLOSM tour and I certainly don't care that Journey continues to play Journey songs. You do realize that all members have a vested interest in songs they helped create and that Neal has probably waited a long time for someone to be able to sing these songs. Let him have his fun. Because that's what he's doing.

I still just don't get it and I know this has been hashed out many time before but... They're Journey somgs written or cowritten by Cain & Schon and performed by Journey. I don't see any of these songs being hands off.

I thought this was a great and expect it to get even better.

You're not exactly making the comparison on a level playing field. Nostrildamus never sang WCTNGOF live. Why do you think that is? And you're comparing a 42 year old Pineda to a 28 or 29? year old Steve Perry. And Arnel's 42 year old voice has at least 5 to 10 times the miles that Perry's did/does. Granted, what Perry did was superhuman, but Pineda was playing 5 to 7 hours per night 5 to 6 nights a weeks for years. Do the math. I'll happily concede that Perry was better...most will. This is simply about be able to revisit music you contributed to, and Neal Schon has that fucking right.
