I must say, part of the reason I am liking it has to do with a personal issue. Being a college student ready to graduate in 3 weeks or so, I can really relate. I have my big ideas dreams, but reality (especially the current job market) definitely changes things. I can't help but find it ironic that Styx releases this song at this exact time.

So I like it. Not their best song, but it eerily hits home with me at this time.

Its right up there with She Cares, Tommy has really sunk way low with this lame effort.
I see now that they are on this board reading everything that is said here,
When is STYX going to put out new music 3 weeks later poof they release a 7 Zens throw away and call it STYX music. Hey Tommy get your act together man your running on the STYX treadmill.

I agree that it's not their best. Totally. I'd much rather hear this than an album of remakes though, like their last album. It doesn't sound much like Styx, but it also doesn't sound like a typical Tommy Shaw tune. That doesn't mean it sucks. It means it's different. It IS strange that there's been such a distance between Cyclo and this and that they're not just exploding with new, more powerful songs. After all, that was a long time ago when that album came out.

I don't think it sucks. I like it. But I don't love it.
And I Believe in You still blows.

You kill me Just say the songs sucks already. I don't love it but I like it
That's almost impossible Either it's a kick ass tune or it sucks in my book

Everything current styx does sucks in your book

Exactly...and that alone makes it a good song. If people can relate to it, be touched by it, and enjoy it and relate it to their life, then it is a good song.

Over-analyzing it and picking it apart to FIND something to complain about only makes the complainer look like an idiot.

I personally think the beatles are overrated but that's probably because i didn't grow up in that generation. I just don't get all of their hype.

You need to seek help. You're obviously very emotionally frail--allowing yourself to get worked up over the fact that total strangers on the internet don't share the same interest that you do for a band.

Yer Wrong. No other band, entertainer, or song writers did more for music in our time. Not Elvis, not Jackson, etc.
NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.

electric guitars existed before les paul retard, rickenbacker was the first company to make electric guitars before WW2. if it wasn't for the africans selling the other africans to the europeans and being beaten the shit out of as slaves in the cotton fields there would be no music as we know it today

maybe they'll do a re-recordings thing with new songs. like what KISS did with Sonic Boom

I've heard some rumors about some re-recordings going on, nothing confirmed yet.

Your insane I Believe In You is a great song and beats anything Shaw Styx has done.
OWEverything is close. Private Jones is not that good IMO.
Lets face it current STYX lacks , production and writing abilities to produce anything close to
the past.

I Believe in You sounds like it was left over from Love Boat reruns. TERRIBLE song right up there with First Time and some of the crappier tracks from Boomchild. I can't believe DeYoung penned that. Awful.

Not saying the new Styx song is brilliant, I don't think it is. But it may just be a glimpse of a new album and maybe not the strongest track (hopefully not). You REALLY like "I Believe in You"? Seriously? Man, that is just the worst song.

And music IS subjective. If it wasn't, then Brittany Spears would be heralded as a musical genius. She sells a ton of records, but they pretty much blow. That means SOMEONE likes it.

that just means there's a lot of stupid people. just like on this board

Yeah, but you could say that about ANY band. If you don't like them, then it seems stupid to like The Ramones, for instance. Or Sex Pistols. Or Wham! Or Three Dog Night. Or Styx. Or Iron Maiden . . . or anyone else for that matter. It's such a fine line between stupid and clever. LOL.

They were first, and as a result they had the opportunity to set the paradigm for everything that a band writing its own songs and playing its own instruments could be. They've done some brilliant stuff . . . AND some utter crap, like every other band in history. But people are so mesmerized by the legend that they can't see past it. McCartney has written as many terrible songs as great ones, if not more. In my opinion, at any rate.
