While I agree with this, I'm thinking...

why are these photos in Froy's Dennis thread????

PS, I have a Grand Illusion cover signed by Dennis, Chuck, Todd, Jy & Tommy
NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.

Your right, Froy never jumps in on a Styx thread and turns it upside-down. My bad

That is the scroll of albums that used to be at the top of the old Stxworld site.

At the end of the show it scrolls from album cover to album.

There is some irony in the picture, but that is it. Other than 15 seconds of Roboto, they don't play anything off either album. I am sure once the medley is retired, that 15 seconds of Roboto will be gone too.

I hate to say it but when you hear Mr Roboto you think of 1 thing STYX and only Dennis plays the song because it's his creation.
Another reason why Dennis DeYoung as he stands alone is more of STYX than anyone on this earth combined,

Froy,
We both agree on this. Dennis is known as the voice of the hits for Styx. This will make Dennis' show much more appealing to the mass audience, especially with the addition of August.

If Dennis ever decided to do a formal tour in the US, his show would have more appeal to Styx fans as well as put tremendous pressure on Styx. The decision of Styx to stay with the rockers allows Dennis to do what he does.

The show is a much better show now with August and Jimmy. Much more energy and the show appeals to a wider audience.

I am glad you finally got to see the current lineup. The video on youtube doesn't do them justice.

If Jimmy was able to pull off half penny or Miss America vocally, and I don't know one way or another, then that would make Dennis the band to see.

I know some on here think I talk out of both sides of my mouth with Styx vs Dennis. But you know i call it right down the middle. And as I said in my last review of Styx's show, right now Dennis' show is the one to see. The sets change regularly as well as concert styles and the energy on stage has reinvigorated Dennis.

Habve a great weekend.

Good for DDY for going out and finding a guy to not only sound like TS, but also to be able to play guitar pretty damn good as well. I can only speak as a fan of the music, and what I saw on Saturday was better than any of the times I had seen the band known as Styx.

This is not a great example at all, but it was like when I saw Warrant without Jani Lane. He's Warrant. Period. Same idea with Styx.

Curious to know your thoughts on this.

Do you think the set list has something to do with this?

Is it because Dennis is singing his songs?

I think both shows are very different and I take away something different from both of them.

Actually, you can see who ever you want. I see both and enjoy them both. Of course, your boys only come to New England once a year, so I won't be able to see them until next year. I could care less about how each of them draw at a show. I only use them to compare the types of venues they are playing.

If you want numbers, Here are the numbers from Chicago...

7,000 from Froy
12,000 from Craig Carter - Dennis' Bassist
16,000 from August Zadra - Dennis' guitarist

and they were all at the same show.

I think there is a difference of total attendance of the festival and attendance of whom was actually watching the show. I think Froy's estimate is closer.

Roboto was a mistake from day one. The fact that he continues to play a song that really divided
his own fan base can't be a good thing...

I like both camps, but man, Mr. Roboto is such a terrible tune...
Imagine where we'd be if that one and First Time were never recorded. It'd be a happier Styx fanbase, that's for sure...
Roboto is great to pull out for the "casual fan" but who gives a crap about them?
It's too bad that bands have to cater to the 'casual fan'.

If you ask the semi casual to casual styx fan the most likely song they will know is mr. roboto that's why dennis does it.

"brywool

If Styx is "Mr. Roboto" then I'm not interested. If Dennis is "Mr. Roboto" then I'm not interested.

Its one of many of both BRY and a song that got the band and Dennis World wide attention.
If you think about it the world is made up of Mr Robotos Dennis was waaay ahead of his time with that one.

Roboto was a mistake from day one. The fact that he continues to play a song that really divided
his own fan base can't be a good thing...

Hey its a fun song and nobody is divided by it, Just like Babe its a song we know is a Dennis STYX song and one we just except is going to be played forever,

I like both camps, but man, Mr. Roboto is such a terrible tune...

Ok Dennis wrote a terrible tune In your opinion we all have bad days. I would bet the current STYX would kill for that bad day today

Imagine where we'd be if that one and First Time were never recorded. It'd be a happier Styx fanbase, that's for sure...

Sure and She Cares and Cold War and Homewrecker and Eddie etc

Roboto is great to pull out for the "casual fan" but who gives a crap about them?

I could care less about how each of them draw at a show. I only use them to compare the types of venues they are playing.

If you want numbers, Here are the numbers from Chicago...

7,000 from Froy
12,000 from Craig Carter - Dennis' Bassist
16,000 from August Zadra - Dennis' guitarist

and they were all at the same show.

I thought thay would come your way more than once a year.I could careless about how many they draw at shows.I just love tthe music.

Then both of us care about the same thing. IT is always about the music. (Except for some on this site)

I just thought that it was funny that 3 people could be at the same event and have such varying numbers.

At most of the 20+ DDY shows that I've been to, "Mr. Roboto" has always been one of popular songs that he plays live.

Speaking of "Mr. Roboto"..........

This is from a recent interview:

DDY: Well, I think a song like "Roboto" which was an unusual composition of mine because it was not based on the piano. It was written with the aid of a Roland synthesizer. I can't remember the model but it was the first synthesizer that had an arpeggiator on it, which is like an early sequencer. The way it worked was that you could hold one note down and make it play any number of rhythmic patterns. In this particular case, I held this one program down and it made a ding ding ding sound and then I added a rhythm piece to it and I came up with "Roboto" that way. So that song, being based on an arpeggiated synth pattern, it made the song more challenging to play acoustically because it is so specifically stylized. That kind of syntho-pop sound, to translate it to acoustic instruments, is what made it the most challenging. The other songs, they were easily manipulated to play acoustically because of their structure.

There were probably 12 thousand people at the fest and about 7000 watching the show
there were carnival rides and another stage in the corner.
Great time
