OK - new favorite - James Durbin. This kid is good:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EHdHUqnei3g

Watch some of his pre-Idol stuff on YT also - Kashmir, Rainbow in the Dark - pretty decent.

I think he has been diagnosed with both Tourette's and Asperger's syndromes also - the Tourette's symptoms were quite noticeable in some of his previous performances but not so much tonight.

It seems to come out more the more nervous he gets. I noticed his tourette's was more noticable while he was standing there waiting the other night to see if he got into the top 13. I'm sorry I just don't get the Casey thing, wasn't too impressed with his tonight, but James has been a fave since the beginning, LOL the rockers usually are. I think he's a little like Adam, he's got that killer scream, he sounded good on the Judas Priest one, but agreed he was good on the McCartney one tonight. And Pia has a stunning voice, wow can she sing!

Loved his audition, he moved Stephen with his vocal, especially on Dream On. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QCaVQqWl ... re=related

Kid emotes like crazy, now that's feeling a song, emote = I like. :)

I have to say - I don't think he screeches near as much as Adam did at times, and overall I prefer his vocals (and you know I'm an Adam fan  ). Some of those YT's of James singing with that Guitarmy group are amazing. As for Casey, I thought I liked his quirkyness but I found him kind of annoying tonight. Rockers rule! :)

James Durbin - Stairway to Heaven. Love it (except I'm listening on headphones and only getting sound in the right ear  - bad recording I guess)

Agreed, but after watching tonight I wonder if that will be his best performance?

That was the worst performance I've ever heard from Adam Lambert. But he's not being judged, so he probably doesn't give a damn.

Actually I quite like the song and his vocal on it for the most part, but that high squeal he does a couple times in it kinda wrecks it. Gotta quit that. Much better live version of it......... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PRDBa8uP0z4 No squeals and quite a nice vocal tone when he's not pushing his high end. They interviewed him at the grammys and his album he is working on now, when asked if it is as glam as the first one, he said it's more leather than glam. He's got a great rock voice, so I'm curious to here a more rock album from him.

I'm thinking the rock singer guy with tourettes/asperghers will win. Pia, Scotty and the girl who did the Leanne Rimes yodelling song are contenders, too. I have a feeling these are the ones who will get the most votes.

I think people like Karen and Casey were less than inspiring this week.
Maybe they peaked too soon.

I'm really liking Jennifer Lopez. I just think she is so NICE.

Oh, and stunningly beautiful, too.

I've always thought this, but in the back of my mind I'm thinking Idol makes 90% of their money during the course of the show. I think the money from the winner's releases account for very little. No one excites me this year. Like I've always said - just because you have a great voice, doesn't mean you know HOW to sing. The quality this year is maybe one the worst yet. But hey, this is the age of studio tricks, autotune, and scores of other audio trickery....this show tends to gravitate towards personality/image anyway....you can always create a voice in the studio.

 I don't know what you're smoking Sean, but this year has tenfold better singers than last year. There is some definite good ones. Last week wasn't great. But there was some real good performances tonight. I thought Lauren did a great job on one of my favorite songs, considering she had the flu on top of it............looooooooove Melissa E's I'm The Only One. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p_SEmcFVG-8

Stefano (Simply Red song) and James (Bon Jovi song) did well too IMO. LOL, makes you realize how old you're getting when they had to chose songs from the year they were born and all the songs were from the 80s and 90s.

IDK Deb....the 2 best voices EVER on idol were Melinda Doolittle, and Crystal Bowersox...both slaughter every one on this year's show. Just my opinion. A rocker will never win Idol, and coming from a MR. BiG fan - you are all W.E.T., sistah....

I loved Melinda Doolittle's voice!

In my head I can still hear her beautiful low note on 'My Funny Valentine.'

This week only Stefano was good for me.

Spoiler post :) - probably hasn't aired in some parts yet . . .

Once again, James Durbin - my favorite this week:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G8IEeo08 ... r_embedded

Some of the others were pretty good too (Motown week) but for me, he stands out.

Surprised how good the show was tonight - everyone is very talented, but some of the performances hit home than others. Save 2 or 3, I think this could be one of the most talented American Idol groups

I like Scotty.. but then again, I like Country (dont tell Rick). :P I also like Paul.. he's different from the others on the show. As long as he continues to pick songs that cater to his voice and doesn't go out of his league.. he'll stick around a bit longer.

Scotty is starting to creep me out.

Every time I see him I think of that Neumann kid in the MAD comic.
And that deep voice from a 16 year old is just plain freaky!

I liked Naima best this week.

And I was very surprised they used their 'save' option so early in the contest!

Two go home next week because of it.

Wonder which two?
What if one of them is Casey.

  That is TOO funny, I just said that to a friend the other day! I know alot of people like Scotty and Paul, but I'm not much of a fan of either. I like a little versitility, and with Scotty that is all it's gonna be. LOL everything sang with a country twang....mind you, I'm not big into country either though. And Paul's voice I find very weak, I like his tone, but IMO there is just no power there.

Not a Paul fan.
I just can't get beyond the teeth.
They look like Ross Gellar in that episode of Friends when he whitened his!
And don't get me started on the way he moves his legs on stage.

And Scotty/kid from the Mad comic keeps curling his lip. I hate that. Is he trying to channel Elvis or something???

And Scott......... do something with that bloody hair. It's a rubbish style.

I'm rooting for him too. I like Lauren and Pia too. Pia's got an amazing voice, and there is just something about Lauren's voice that I like, a little rasp and power to it. I'm just waiting for her to belt one out though......and surprise everybody. If she wasn't fighting the flu and had a little more confidence I think she could have slayed people if she had just let loose and belted out Melissa Ethridge's 'I'm The Only One'.

Pia is beautiful and has a beautiful voice - but for me she's a big snoozefest - kind of reminds me of Katherine McPhee. Paul kinda creeps me out, Scotty makes me smile but every song sounds the same. Go James!

Resident curmudgeon reporting.....they all stink. I've watched every season for the laugh/giggle factor. Horrible way to find talent.

For me, it's the Bruins-Blackhawk game on Versus, then Top Shot.

Every season the producers have found creative, yet boring ways to extend the show. Whether it's not kicking anybody off one week, or extending the auditions.

Curmudgeon alert over....carry on.

Yeah, I don't watch AI, but I watched her sing Celine's song at a friends insistence ...
she does have an incredible voice, but she doesn't have that delivery that reaches out
and grabs ...can that be learned?!?! I don't know, something was definitely
missing, but the judges and audience seem to love her!! She has gorgeous teeth, too!!
