The only fans who should be surprised at all about this interview are those who STILL want to believe it's all about the money. it's not - and it could be any clearer.
About the Money? What money? These band members are making 2000 dollars per night so there is no money. Who does Shaw think he is fooling,
They are drawing an average of 800 fans. Get it 800 so there is no money and there are no fans left, For me its not about a Reunion more than it's about
getting rid of the horrific singer singing Dennis songs, Get rid of Gowan or just get rid of Dennis songs from the set and you will never hear another complaint from me about this lineup. And don't start with this BS they are STYX songs because according to Shaw is was a miserable experience making Dennis songs so don't play them.
dude i am ok with your position about hating current styx and loving DDY and all that but your numbers about what current styx are drawing and getting paid are not correct.....you can look it up and they are getting paid on average 60-80k per show......not counting merchandise.......so let's say their overhead is 50% of that then they are still averaging well over 5k per band member per show not counting merchandise which merch is almost all profit......and there is no way that ricky and probably todd and gowan are getting paid what tommy and jy do.......couple that with over a 100 shows per year and the business of styx is doing just fine financially. they wouldnt be out there doing it if they didnt make decent money doing it.
Well, let's also be clear that there is not a five-way split going on. You have bosses who are profit participants and you have everyone else earning a nice salary. So Tommy and JY are keeping whatever's left over after everyone is paid, I'm assuming is how it works. And of course you're right, if it weren't meeting everyone's financial needs they wouldn't do it. Todd, for instance, could have his pick of gigs and is still hanging in there. That speaks to his commitment to his bandmates, as well as the fact that it's a good gig and you'd have a pretty damn hard time finding one that pays as well, playing the drums elsewhere. That's reality, it's a business.
Just to throw this out there, why does anyone think Dennis' band members show up for gigs? For the sheer joy of playing and the pleasure of his company? Or because they are being paid cold hard cash?
And what's wrong with that?
