Then you are one of only a few......having seen Survivor live since 1982 I can tell you that that little bit was abysmal. Robin has a good voice but not for those songs. He sounded completely bored out there. How the hell do you get bored only playing 10-15 shows a year? And what the hell was that dancing shit.....was he surfing or channeling his innner axl rose?????? On the positive side sullivan looked like he was having a good time.

No axe, there are many of us that think Robin does more than fine singing Survivor. In fact, I think Robin blows JJ out of the water on rockin' songs like Tiger, FMS, and Burning Heart. Is his voice suited more toward hard rock? Damn right. But he is twice the showman JJ is IMHO.

"Blows" Jamison "out of the water?" On anything?

Red, I've seen Survivor on multiple occasions. The last time I saw JJ, while his voice was strong, he had as much energy on stage as 90 year old man with a walker! I understand he is doing much better now. I look forward to seeing him once again.

I never thought JJ's voice was suited to Tiger or FMS. Clearly those songs were written with Bickler's vocals in mind. Listen, back in the day, JJ could sing his ass off, but his voice was always on the smooth side to me and not "street" sounding.

Wow...

I must be one deaf mother fucker because Burning Heart is one of my favorite vocals of all time...with JJ at the helm....

Robin is an amazingly talented singer...no questioning that....EVER....but I think his vocal delivery and overall sound fit the DB material well, the JJ material...no...not in my opinion....

I think stage presence and showmanship Are important for a performer, since this is rock music. McAuley pipes, live , are perfect for survivor and his stage performance makes it cool to' watch

With all due respect, THTS to me is no match for Dave's vocals in say Premonition or EOTT albums.

I agree in a sense that McCauley's pitch is closer to Dave's IMO.

With regards to JJ's vocals in Burning Heart, I think JJ's just as good or maybe slightly better in The Moment Of Truth. Granted TMOT was JJ's first release for Survivor and he sounded darn youthful with perfect diction.

My fav. part in BH is when JJ's sings "Rising like a spire". Just supreme!

Premonition still stands as the best record Survivor ever put out! Runway Lights, Hearts A Lonely Hunter, Light of a Thousand Smiles! The beret at his best.

Agreed! While McAuley isn't a perfect fit for all the Survivor music, he is a perfect showman. Much like Kelly Hanson to me with Foreigner. While I love Lou Gramm, I can't imagine him fronting the band at this stage.

I'm sure McAuley would sound great on "Cum on Feel the Noise" or "Metal Health", but not much in the Survivor mold for me...

at this point, on renditions of past hits he will surely please some and some not, that's a fact, and happens all the time with every singer in every band. The point is to prove what they are capable of on new material that reflects the new band

In my humble opinion, this is not Survivor. I know many here like the new incarnation, but I just can't stomache it. After hearing Arnel bust out Survivor tunes with the Zoo a few years ago, I think he would have been a much better fit with this band than he is with Journey. Just saying.

I agree. And it's not just the change in singer. It's the fact that Survivor, to me, was the combination or JP and FS. Take either one of them out of the equation, and it's a different animal. Here it's called "McSurvivor." I tend to call it "Sullivivor." Either way, it's not Survivor, regardless of what it says on the marquee, just as JJ's band in the 90s wasn't Survivor.

Obviously, I'm happy with AP in Journey. But I agree that he would have been great in Survivor, too.

AP did a great job on Jamison and Bickler's vocals with The Zoo.

Me too...he does a great job with Journey...plus for him being with Journey, he's most likely making a decent living....obviously many more shows with Journey opposed to Survivor.

Arnel is just a very good vocalist, but it doesn't deliver. Saw him live 3 times with Journey. Honestly, he's a good performer, but he can't stay on the beat in a live situation, he's accenting is not precise (and i'm not just talking about english accent here) and that makes the song sound a little bit boring. Can't face the ghost of Perry, BTW.

I think it fits better in Journey than it would in Survivor, that needs a stronger manly feel to the songs
