On his site.... a lot said in just a few words....
Joe Vana wrote:.when Tommy was thankful to have the opportunity that DDY afforded him....when JY was happy to be onstage doing what he loved and not worried about DDY and his control of the band....DDY when he could write and create because of his passion for writing, and not under pressure to write a hit....

Seems to me that is exactly where they are right now.

Just out of curiosity, why does everyone always say that DDY gave Tommy his break? According to everyone, it was Jim Vose who had met Tommy back in 1974, when he was in MS Funk, and it was Vose who remembered him and brought him back to Chicago to audition. I read a lot of comments at a lot of places about how DDY was the one who got Tommy into the band, and it simply isn't correct. Just wondering where people got that info. Anyone know?

It was DeYoung's decision. That's why Vose took Shaw to Dennis's house first. If DeYoung says he doesn't want him at that point after they sat down and played Lady together, it's over. No further audition or anything, just adios.
Granted, Vose was the one who found Tommy and brought him down but DeYoung is the one who green-lighted him into the band.
