Nice comment from Dennis there. When Dennis is in the public eye, he always has class.

On his site.... a lot said in just a few words....

Money, fame, power, ego, lust, greed....the music business....or is it the NBA, MLB, NFL.....whenever you combine money and power with people's constant adulation it destroys whoever was inside them...way more often than not...unfortunately....it must hurt to look back and see how great things were in the simple times...at the beginning....when Tommy was thankful to have the opportunity that DDY afforded him....when JY was happy to be onstage doing what he loved and not worried about DDY and his control of the band....DDY when he could write and create because of his passion for writing, and not under pressure to write a hit....

The music business will swallow up the best of them....and it is why bands never release their best material at the end of their careers.....VERY rarely....

Just out of curiosity, why does everyone always say that DDY gave Tommy his break? According to everyone, it was Jim Vose who had met Tommy back in 1974, when he was in MS Funk, and it was Vose who remembered him and brought him back to Chicago to audition. I read a lot of comments at a lot of places about how DDY was the one who got Tommy into the band, and it simply isn't correct. Just wondering where people got that info. Anyone know?

It was DeYoung's decision. That's why Vose took Shaw to Dennis's house first. If DeYoung says he doesn't want him at that point after they sat down and played Lady together, it's over. No further audition or anything, just adios.
Granted, Vose was the one who found Tommy and brought him down but DeYoung is the one who green-lighted him into the band.

yep ddy may have green lighted him into the band but dennis was wise enough to know that tommy was a HUGE upgrade over JC in nearly everyway.....and tommy was a HUGE reason they reached the level they did.....ddy knows that too........styx would have never been as successful as they were without that partnership.

ddy and tommy needed each other.

It was also Dennis who decided that both the album title and first single off the first album with Tommy would be Tommy songs...
