Indianapolis at Chicago - The Andrew Luck era begins and begins with a loss. Chicago by 14.

Philadelphia at Cleveland - Another season of the VASTLY overrated Mike Vick. I say he's injured by week 4. That said, this is the Girl Scouts they're playing. Eagles by 17.

New England at Tennessee - The Jake Locker era begins in Tennessee. This Patriots team is now officially the youngest team Belichick has ever had. The oldest player on their defense is Vince Wilfork, who is just 30. I expect this Patriots team to have a significantly improved defense, following their AWFUL performance last season! Look for Gronkowski to continue to be completely unstoppable and for Aaron Hernandez to have a monster season. I believe the Patriots will go 13-3 this season and fully expect to see them in The Super Bowl. Their first loss of the season will be week 3 against Baltimore (which I'll be thrilled about, so I don't have to listen to the mindless "undefeated" talk). Patriots by 14.

Atlanta at Kansas City - I continue not to be sold on Atlanta. They should win this first game, easily. Not so fast. Tony Gonzalez will get the obligatory TD against his old team, but I like KC in this game. Chiefs by 7.

Jacksonville at Minnesota - There are some good matchups week one. This isn't one of them. Vikings by 7.

Washington at New Orleans - This game is my "lock of the week". I think New Orleans wins this game against ANY team in the NFL. They are going to be emotionally fired up for this one. Saints by 21.

Buffalo at NY Jets - The Shitshow in NY continues. Sanchez sucks, and Tebow sucks more. Fitzpatrick to wildly inconsistent, but usually looks good early in the season. Bills by 7.
St. Louis at Detroit - Major mismatch for the Rams against Stafford and Detroit's high powered passing game. Lions by 17.

Miami at Houston - Schaub is back (at least for now), and Houston has a formidable team. I suspect both Arian Foster and Matt Schaub will both be injured at some point, as they always are. Houston by 21.

San Francisco at Green Bay - Superb matchup of two very good teams. I'm looking forward to watching this one. Green Bay won't even attempt to run the ball against the Niners' stout defense. Rodgers passes for four TD's and wins. Green Bay by 7.

Seattle at Arizona - Russell Wilson against John Skelton. This should be fucking riveting! In honor of Dean, Seahags by 7.

Carolina at Tampa Bay - Big year for Cam Newton to show that last season wasn't a fluke. Tampa isn't very good and Carolina is a very average team. That said, the Figster is a difference maker. Carolina by 10.

Pittsburgh at Denver - Another game I'm looking forward to this weekend. It finally looks like Ben has learned how to put the fork down and lost some weight. That fucker will be over 400lbs within 5 years of retiring from the NFL. I've heard a lot of the so-called "experts" say that Pittsburgh isn't an elite team or are "done". I'm not buying it, even a little. I don't think the Steelers are Super Bowl favorites by any stretch of the imagination. That said, this is still a very good team and Ben is a very good QB. Time for Peyton's coming out party in Denver. I've said it all along...Peyton simply isn't the same player when he is forced to play outside in the elements. As great of a player as Manning has been, his numbers would be FAR less impressive if he hadn't played more than half of his games in a 72 degree bubble on carpet. I think Manning will have a less than stellar season (at least by his standards). Steelers win by 10.

Cincinnati at Baltimore - I loved what I saw out of Dalton and AJ Green the first part of last season. That said, they both faded in the second half of the season faster than Oreos in my kitchen cabinet! Baltimore isn't getting any younger. I love Ray Rice and think he's a stud running back. Flacco is a VERY average player and isn't leading anyone to the promise land. I'm still on the fence about the Ravens when it comes to whether or not they have one more "run" in them with this defense. We shall see. Ravens by 3.

San Diego at Oakland - Two teams that are ALWAYS picked to be "the team" at the beginning of every new season. I still like Phillip Rivers and the Raiders are still the Raiders. Chargers by 10.

Just joined the ESPN Pick 'Em League and made my picks. I'm off to Cleveland Browns Stadium in a few. If I don't post here ever again, it's because I slit my wrists at halftime.

BTW, lol at JFB having an @aol.com e-mail address. John and my uncle are the only 2 guys left in the world with an aol.com e-mail

Ha! Funny. What can I say, kid. Had the same email address for more than 20 years. I don't even use AOL for anything beyond that. Have fun at the game today.

I always knew that Logan Mankins was one of the toughest SOB's I have seen coming into the NFL but after reading Adam Schefter's status update...YIKES!

Adam Schefter

One year ago, opening Monday night matchup between Miami and New England, Patriots Pro Bowl G Logan Mankins tore his right ACL. Not only did Mankins finish the Monday night game, he finished the season, becoming one of the rare, if not the only, player ever to have played an entire 16-game season with a torn ACL.

But...but....but.. but the Jets didn't score an offensive touchdown in the pre-season! *Que NFL blowhards*. Another reason why Pre-season is utterly POINTLESS. Love the NFL. So many surprises! I have the privilege of watching two shithole teams in Cleveland/Philly. Got NE/Tenn, though. Good game. Pats run-D looking outstanding. Defense still creating turnovers.

Glad I'm not the only one. These fuckers look like identical twins to me, but I've never heard an announcer make any reference to it, so I thought perhaps I was seeing things. On another note Matt, how about that 5 QB rating today by Weeden? WTF...I didn't even know a rating of 5 was a possibility

The Denverapolis Colts looked great. If a butter knife like Teblow could shred the Steelers defense, then a machete like Manning could absolutley carve them up and spit them out. Revenge=FAIL. Back to the drawing board. In the house next week VS Jets.

Steelers D LOOKED old and tired....I know they are, but they showed it. Manning was ripping them to shreds. Plus Palomalu didn't help by showing his rush. Don't do that to Manning...he sees all. LOL

Denver obviously game-planned around Polamalu and what he was going to do (wherever Troy was placed, Manning checked to whatever was going to keep him out of the play.) Polamalu showing his shit actually made Manning burn a time out, come back off the timeout, and then get a delay of game penalty. The Steelers held the Broncs to a FG on that drive. Manning was Manning. It was the Colts offense installed and ran the no-huddle to perfection. The Steelers couldn't substitute and the 43 defense was forced to spread out and get burned. Only a few amount of QB's can do it. Manning is one of, if not, the best at it and showed it tonight.

Ben and Manning played their ass's off. Denver's defense looked as tired as Pittsburgh's. The Steelers destroyed in T.O.P and had scoring drives ranging from over 9:00 while Denver sucked wind. Tracy Porter had the two biggest plays of the night. The tip in the endzone (where Heath Miller was WIDE OPEN and obviously the pick-6.) Great QB showing all night. Exactly what the league wanted.

Their defense isn't exactly young. That said, I wouldn't put it all on them. I thought Ben sucked. He continues to hold on to the ball WAY too long! Steelers fans get all pissy because they think Ben is an "elite" QB (he isn't)! He is a good QB who has a lot of flaws in his game. The reality is that while his teams have won two Super Bowls (he played horrifically in one of them), he has never been the reason that team wins. Unlike Brady, Peyton, Brees, Rodgers, et al, Ben actually has a top 5 defense every season. Most of those other QB's are forced to play with a bottom 5 defense!

Ben's John Wayne kept Pittsburgh in the game. Big Ben and Manning literally went toe to toe, working their no huddle offense's like it was mid-season form. Ben looked sharp with quick twitch throws in the first half, getting the ball out of his hands and kept true to his moniker in the 2nd half with extending the play and making things happen when they had no business happening.

Ben was only sacked twice (same as Manning) before that last ditch-effort drive where Denver pinned their ears back against our last dressed lineman (3 sacks in a row in desperation-mode.) Before the pick-6, you could argue who had the better night at QB. Ben faced pressure in his face all night while Manning methodically dinked and dunked his way in the no-huddle, not even letting the Steelers defense settle their feet.

Sometimes, Manning was throwing the ball to a spot way before it was supposed to, making things and motion look awkward. Ben, many times, looked down the gun barrel and rocketed some big plays in the middle of the field to keep things alive.

Ben only had 2 ill throws. The one where he didn't have enough loft with a wide open Heath Miller in the endzone, and the across the body, Favre like pick-6.

Bens stats sure didn't suck. Him and Manning were pretty much toe to toe (considering yardage, Thomas ran a WR screen to the endzone for 71 yards. A big chunk of yardage in Manning's overall production yardage.)

Roethlisberger: 22/40 attempts, 245 yards, 2 TDs, 1 interception, 90.1 QB rating.

Manning: 19/26 attempts, 253 yards, 2 TDs, 129.2 QB rating.

Unlike Brady, Peyton, Brees & Rodgers, Roethlisberger has played with the WORST offensive line in football for YEARS. Brady and all those guys have well oiled, prime-time offense's. Pittsburgh has the talent but never had continuity up-front to turn into a powerhouse and that trend continues.

You say Brady/Rodgers/Brees never had top 5 defense's, but in ALL of their Super Bowl runs, they were LEAGUE LEADERS in turnover ratio, including New England last season. Stats are one thing, coming up with the big play is another and New England's, New Orleans AND Green Bay's defense in + turnover ratio defensively were amongst the BEST the years they went to the Super Bowl. Don't act like their respective defense's NEVER helped out the offense. They did.

Soundtracks was cool on the Monday Night feature. Vick is downright horrible and I can't take his words seriously but Arian Foster was hilarious. Nothing worse than a player not even knowing who you are for Miami, lmao. Cool exchange between Ben and Peyton. Ben told Peyton welcome back and to stay healthy and Peyton told Ben he was awesome on 3rd down tonight. Pretty cool.

Did you even watch this game? The Bengals look like they were competing for the first overall draft pick (again)! Whoa. That was fucking UGLY! I need another week to figure out if Baltimore is really this good or if the Bungles really suck this bad!

Dude, I commented on in this thread when it was a very close game at the time and when it was 17-13. It still doesn't change the fact that Cincy went on the road with a center that was with the team for all but 2 days, went into Baltimore and were chunking the shit out of them in the run-game at one point. After my comment and in the second half, it clearly got out of hand quick but Cincy was playing tough ball at one juncture of the game.

Judging by 1/17 weeks, Baltimore opens as early dominance in the AFC NORTH so I expect them to lay a goose-egg next week, lmao. But in all seriousness, Baltimore is CLEARLY the team to beat in the AFC North at the moment, by far, not even close.

Honest assessment from last night.

The Ravens D gave up 3 consecutive drives of 70 yds or more to the Bengals and had almost zero pass rush from the outside. Not good.

They will need the offesne to look the way they did last night and put up 25+ points each week to win.

They will need the offesne to look the way they did last night and put up 25+ points each week to win.

I give Flacco credit (but not too much credit. Playing at home against division rivals two years in a row are major benefits.) He played his BALLS off but needs to show consistently to be takin serious. As good as he played, he tried to be boneheaded. I counted atleast 3-4 potential interceptions that bounced off Bengals chest and some batted in the air where disaster could of struck. He still tries to force balls but Ray Rice's fear that he strikes in defense's is evident. Those play actions are killer. I never see linebackers get fooled the way Cinci's did last night. Complete NO REGARD to the play action passing game whatsoever.
